Upcoming Change: Mounts Will Not Act Like Vehicles

Are you tired of your new mounts, like the Magnificent Flying Carpet, acting like vehicles instead of standard mounts? As Scard put it on the O-Boards, "I am greatly disappointed with the fact that I have to spend a second to get on and off the mount and cannot trade, attack, or cast spells while on the mount. The flying mount also de-mounts if you login while riding it."

Well, according to Blizzard poster Zarhym, that's going to change in an upcoming patch.

This is slated to be changed in an upcoming patch (not 3.0.8). All new mounts that currently function like vehicles will be changed to function like other standard mounts. This includes the flying carpet.

That means no more falling to your death if you happen to log out during your magic carpet ride.

I would say if you are a passenger with NO control over the mount, then maybe yeah it should behave like a vehicle. However when you are controlling the vehicle/mount it'll act like a normal mount and when you dismount everyone else is dismounted. That is how it should've been done in the first place, but as a pally 300% movement speed, I really don't care around northrend and outland.

I'm curious how this will affect the passenger mounts.

Sounds great. Even if it doesn't affect the passenger mount it's great, finally I don't need a macro to mount my drake for farming/grinding purposes any more. Now, if they found a way to use this for the passenger mount, too... that'd be WAAAAY COOL.
