According to CCTV.com there is a new restaurant that just opened in Beijing. Not just any restaurant mind you, it's a World of Warcraft themed establishment. The owner hopes to create an atmosphere that fans of the game will find comfortable. I suppose it makes sense to reward a hard day at the gold farming sweatshop with a delicious meal that offers nostalgic reflections about the work day. I wonder if you can pay for your meal with in-game gold.

The restaurant's entrance is a real-life re-creation of the opening animation from the game, The World of Warcraft. The dining area is called the Hall of Snow Storms." Here, an immense plasma screen displays action from the game. There's a towering tree at the center of the dining "portal," creating a pleasing ambiance for leisurely diners. Most patrons are fans of the multi-player game.

The video that CCTV published in conjuncture with the news article is a must see. What do you guys think about this? Let us know in our forums.

Too realistic...

Come on, it CAN'T be WoW based - the armour in the screen grab looks realistic and may actually fit someone (as opposed to the armour in game where the shoulderpads look wider than the character is tall!) If you want to make it as true to the game as you can, make them look stupid!

I was so impressed with the wall art in the restaurant video footage. That's what got me interested in the game over a year ago was the beautiful graphics. I love the details in the scenery and the players looks with armor and weaponry. It's really amazing and quite beautiful so to see it on the walls of a restaurant just made me smile... It's good to know someone else appreciates good art when they see it. Thank you.

The Pennsylvania Renaissance Fair is about as close as you can get here on the east cost to haveing anything like a WoW event and it's not even WoW related. So I would have to say yes a resturant like this one or one based on FFxi, conan, EQ, ect would be nice to have state side.

Glornt and Sorlac - if America had the reputation of being gold farmers, because a larger proportion of the population did gold farm than other countries then, yes, I would take offense, because I don't gold farm. I would go to this restaurant not because I am enjoying the fruits of my gold farming, but because one of my idiotic friends dragged me there by my ears. You guys will be surprised at how people can really run with something like this, as much of our WoW players are still "children", so that is why I said the comment was in bad taste. This is a global 21st century, and we should be more conscience with our words. My question for you is if you would take offense if someone from China or France wrote this article about America, assuming that America has larger proportion of gold farmers and you don't gold farm.

All - I do find the concept of a WoW restaurant amusing and funny, and I did get a laugh out of it and Tamat's article. I am sorry if I was too brash in my comments to Tamat and the quote. I meant it as a friendly reminder not a condemnation.

Tamat - no comments on the logic in your explanation... haha
that rocks

I am sorry, Tamat. I have been visiting this site for a while and appreciate it. But, your comment about gold farming is not in good taste. It can be inferred that the Chinese are all gold farmers even if you did not mean it.

I think the Chinese has taken love and appreciation of the game to a whole new level that we should take in awe and appreciate. I commend them.

Logically, gold farmers probably make less than a dollar a day so they would never be able to afford this restaurant. Secondly, if I were a gold farmer and had to repetitively farm gold for the entire day, I would not want to see anything related to WoW after work...

Bakaneko,

I appreciate your feedback and understand where you are coming from. My comment about gold farming was not intended to offend anyone. While I understand why you would think that my comment inferred my belief that everyone in China are gold farmers. I don't personally believe that in the slightest. The comment was made because, to me it makes sense that someone with the means to open a glamorous World of Warcraft themed restaurant in this region of the world, might also be involved in an RMT business.

I apologize to anyone offended by the comment; that was most certainly not my intention.

For every person that was offended, 100 people chuckled at it.

Heaven forbid one in 100 has a sense of humor.

At least 100, Sorlac. It's a shame that there are some folks who look for reasons to be offended. It was the (non-Chinese) complainer who read an insult into the "offending" statement, suggesting that he is aware that China has a reputation for producing a disproportionate number of gold farmers. I am certain that this overreaction would not have arisen if the article had used the same wording in reference to an American rather than a Chinese city.
