New Zones for Legacy of Ykesha

The newest zones in Norrath are comming with the LoY expansion, and there are wallpapers and descriptions of each on the Official Site. Here's the break-down of the zones as they're listed.
The Gulf of Gunthak The Gulf of Gunthak is the only port on Broken Skull Rock. Every other place where the island meets the water is steep, rocky and exposed to the rough weather. That does not mean Gunthak is an entirely safe harbor, as the shore of the gulf is barren and rocky, and the cliffs beyond the bay are holed with caves. Most of these caves are shallow, but a few of them lead deep into the cliff and open into a rather expansive cavern system. This is the gateway to the lair of the Broken Skull Clan. It serves as the home for the newly recruited clan members and temporary housing for anyone that the clan trusts just enough not to kill outright. Anyone wishing to learn about this fierce group of Trolls should start here and, if they are lucky, find the passages into the deeper parts of Broken Skull Rock. Rumors have reached many adventurers that they may find welcome, or at least a safe landing, near the abandoned lighthouse. Dulak's Harbor Dulak's Harbor lies in a vast cavern beneath the rocky island. The troll marauders have built their dark, rough town along the calm shores of the harbor. Using whatever they have at hand, the inhabitants are constantly rebuilding and adding to this city. An eerie feeling surrounds the city; a malevolent undercurrent beyond just the unpleasant nature of the creatures living there. Most of the expected amenities are available here, if you're a member of Clan Broken Skull. Taverns, crew quarters, stores, docks, and shipyards fill the city. Rails can be seen in parts of the city, and following them one way could lead an adventurer to the refinery and the nearby smiths. Luggalds guard the temple, the most unusual and unpleasant building in town. Anyone foolish enough to get close to the temple is engulfed by the palpable fear and hate that seep from within. Torgiran Mines Deep inside Broken Skull Rock are the Torgiran Mines, where downtrodden slaves delve into the ore-rich depths of the island. The ore is moved by rail out to Dulak's Harbor, processed in the refinery, and used to create ship's fittings and primitive weapons. The mines themselves occasionally dip below sea level, sometimes even uncovering lava pools. The Luggald have erected shrines and etched mystic runes in the mines, which seem to prevent them from flooding. Crypt of Nadox Hidden in the bowels of Broken Skull Rock lies the Crypt of Nadox. The tomb of the ancient Troll shaman Nadox is hidden within these caverns bearing his name. Filled with various shrines and temples to honor the god of the Broken Skull Clan, the crypt is a dangerous place to any who venture there. Only the most powerful of the clan are allowed into the crypt, and they guard the area with fierce devotion. Hate's Fury It is rumored that there is a hidden lagoon in the Crypt of Nadox where the leader of the clan keeps his ship. Of course they also say that the ship is filled with ill-gotten booty that the various troll pirate captains have gathered up over the ages. The name of this legendary ship is well known by those that sail the seas, and can be heard on the lips of members of the Broken Skull Marauders. Most sailors understand that such a ship is probably merely a rumor, invented over a foamy mug of ale in a dockside tavern.

One reason EQ looked like D&D was the artist Keith Parkinson who was involved in D&D directly for 5 years. BTW he is now once again working with Brad on their next game.
how to get to new zones
# Feb 16 2003 at 2:09 AM Rating: Default
In case you havent seen the quest updated a few days ago on this site someone's illfated trip is the name it basically details out that you can get to the new zones with a mystical boat that docks in stonebrunt mountains seeing as how wwe had a small stonebrunt patch the other day i believe this will be where they are added which is nice maybe make the continent worth going to

Well, they better put a book in someplace close, because Im gonna be real dissappointed if I have to run through 4 zones just to catch a boat to get to the "new world". There is a reason that Stonebrunt is undercamped.

They have said that most of the new zones are for 35+ most of those 5 they have shown us cant be that high im sure there will be more even if they dont I like the Charm idea as well as the large bank space and the moving of the troll is a nice why to chance what we are used to and keep us guessing who knows whats next? Maybe Freeport will fall to the Dark Elfs etc
RE: Zones

Interesting you should mention Freeport and the Dark Elves...read Chapter 5 Lore at the LoY website. Notice towards the end of the chapter...

"Perhaps Broken Skull Rock contained secrets that could help the Tier`Dal to increase their power? It was hard for the strategists to keep their minds from drifting towards the nearest harbor town and the tactical advantage they would have in taking it, should they seize control of the ocean to the east. If something within Broken Skull Rock gave trolls the ability to command the seas, what power could it offer a more intelligent race?"

Hmmm...I wonder?
Kunark Zones
# Feb 13 2003 at 7:24 PM Rating: Decent
It is my Understanding that one of the new zones that they have not actually showed or confirmed will be the much rumored/mythical zone in Kunark. The zone is at the bottom of LOIO.

It has never been implemented so for them to start using it now would only make sense. Maybe this will be one of the new zones for Froklogs. After all you have old Seb which is full of Froggies, you would think there would be another froggie zone close by..

Just my theories.

I don't know why boats are even in the game anymore.

Is there *ANY* purpose for them anymore?

I know several people who STILL haven't bought the PoP expansion and are pretty adamant about waiting... so the boats are still useful to them. I even saw some people at the BB docks the other day. I thought it was odd, but can understand the use of the boats from a roleplaying perspective.

Umm....hey, last I checked, the boats were inoperative for the BB/OoT/FP Travel, and you got teleported. Did that change back to normal again?
RE: boats...
# Feb 14 2003 at 1:44 PM Rating: Decent
Can't get into Ocean of Tears without one. A boat, that is.
RE: boats...
# Feb 14 2003 at 3:09 PM Rating: Decent
how can you say that? is there *ANY* point of boats anymore? of course there is , for one, ppl who havent got PoP or luclin (i'm talkin bout lowbies/newbies) or have the cash to donate for a port (and if there new tghey probaly wont know about that) so its a good way of gettin between Odus,Antonica, faydwer, Kunark and Velious, and getting to Ocean of tears is almost imposible to get to without it unless you swim, plus, the docks are a place of role playing roots, i bet the first ppl to play EQ where amazed when they saw them,

The (extension) looks cool and all but is just another way to milk more money out of us EQ junkes. I mean come on you cant tell me that most of this stuff wasnt ready to be put on the PoP expan.. And the story with Grobb gettng invaded was way cool ( despite the fact that i play a dark elf, and hate having those big ugly smelly thing in my city) But to have them come all the way to Neriak, is kind of hard to beleve

One other thing if they can patcfh the game 3 time a week the why the hell cant they fix the damn boats?? Or maybee thats another extension for $20
RE: Danelan

I couldn't agree more. I hate taking the gamble that whenever I try to enter my own home (Neriak)I now have to take the chance of getting killed. Ranjor wants to wipe the floor with me. Because I'm an SK? (know the history between he and Hulkulk, the warrior/sk power struggle etc. So I'm guessing this is why) Or because I'm a DE? (You'd think they'd be a bit more thankful they still have a roof over thier heads). Whichever it sucks that I have to tiptoe around my once peaceful city. They shoulda moved to Grobb instead it's a lot closer.

So those of us that started trolls before the froglok event have to find some island? It was bad enough waking up in Nektulous forest like "wtf?"...then spending hours killing halflings for vials of blood which never dropped.Which they then removed i guess. Now the guild is up on a damn roof,no way you'd find it w/out help if ya dinna start there...SOE needs to make a decision on this, quit jerking us around.
New Troll City?
# Feb 13 2003 at 1:00 PM Rating: Decent
I doubt that the home city for the Trolls would be effectively changed unless it is not actually a part of the "extension." To have to buy a new expansion to play as an old race would not be very good planning.

It's been said that trolls without the new expansion would still be able to start in Neriak.

new epics? Please....
# Feb 13 2003 at 11:47 AM Rating: Decent
Which expansion has come out that HASN'T carried with it an associated rumor of "epic 2.0"?

-Nah-
More than 5 zones? Most likely
# Feb 13 2003 at 10:24 AM Rating: Decent
Like someone below said, these 5 are SOME of the new zones being released. I can't imagine they would only have 5 new ones. If that were the case, Everquest 2 would only have 4 or 5 zones (since that's all they've shown us so far).

Of course I could be wrong...

Something to note on the number of new zones is that they are calling this an extension, not an expansion. The change in terminology was obviously used because of the small amount of new zones. In the end with everything they are adding it is worth the price.
Not only 5 Zones
# Feb 13 2003 at 9:31 AM Rating: Decent
If you notice....all 5 zones are TROLL based zones. I can't imagine they are adding a new race and just plopping them down without any area's of their own. Just my 2c.

Hard to say, They have given the Frogloks all of innothule swamp and olg grobb is named Gukta now. Might be they are just creating a place for the Booted trolls to dwell. I can't imagine them making a lot of zones when the original intent was for a downloadable only extension.
Guess we will have to see.

New Zones
# Feb 13 2003 at 9:13 AM Rating: Decent
They posted on the official site that these new zones are just SOME of the new zones being released....so, that leads one to believe that there are, in fact, more zones going to be implamented.
Bank slots
# Feb 13 2003 at 12:40 AM Rating: Default
Personally i think one of the biggest additions to this new expansions will be the large number of bank slots being added....i remember way back in the day when i played diablo 2 ...and they came out with a expansion that added bank slots it made a world of differance....for example more slots means more stuff aka less need for mules to hold excess trade ingrediants....less need to delete quest items cuz you just dont have the room... so all in all i think its a great idea the stuff they are adding (though i do think just 5 new zones? not a whole lot)

good enuf for me
# Feb 12 2003 at 10:16 PM Rating: Decent
Honestly, I think the added features more than make up for a lack of zones (if that is the case). Bank slots, cartography system, new race, etc. It's not like it was an expensive expansion. Besides, the ones that they are adding will hopefully fill a few voids in the zones we already have for certain levels.
Crypt of Nadox
# Feb 12 2003 at 9:03 PM Rating: Default
ive read things about possible second epics or things like that and Nadox sounds like a possible start and if not i bet he has some good shaman drops.

Only 5?
# Feb 12 2003 at 8:43 PM Rating: Decent
Is it correct in understanding that there are ONLY 5 new zones? I would think an expansion, especially one that comes on the heels of another expansion would have more than that.
RE: Only 5?
# Feb 12 2003 at 8:50 PM Rating: Default
I think they are just showing 5 sample zones, most likely there are other zones that they aren't going to show until later.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 12 2003 at 6:50 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) These new zones sound so cool i cant wait to play them and it will be cool to play a froglok
