Interview with CGS 2v2 Winners

Less then an hour ago the 2v2 CGS Championship was crowned and Team WTS walked away with $30,000.  We sat down with them immediately afterwards to ask a few questions.

Could you both tell us your names and classes?

UM: Javier de la Pena: UNDERMAC, Warlock
S: Nestor Garcia Trabaso: SOULER, Druid

What server do you play on?

UM: C'thun Server, an EU Server.

Why did you each pick your classes?  Any particular reason?

UM: No no, it was luck, I think.
S: We each have so many characters each of us,
UM: I have four by myself, and he has three.
S: And it was a group composition that works fine, I think
UM: In 2v2, yeah.  We played a rogue and shadowpriest before, but it just...didn't work.

Do you guys just pvp, or...

UM: No.  ONLY pvp.

No PVE?

UM: No, none at all.  (laughs)  I don't really like it.
S: So many hours in front of your pc, just "click click click click"...
UM: Yeah, it's always the same.

Do you guys do any pvp except for 2v2?

UM: Yeah, we have a really strong 5 on 5 team in Spain.

What's the team name?

UM: Sesame Street.  (laughs)  We're in 5th place, in 5 on 5.

What are you ranked for the 2v2 team?

UM: We finished first.

How did you guys meet?

UM: We met because we played Counterstrike together, actually.

So you guys were Counterstrike players before?

S: Yeah.
UM: A long, long time ago.  We've known eachother...5 years or so?
S: More.
UM: Yeah, six or seven.

Did you guys play other MMOS, like Everquest or Shadowbane or anything like that?

UM: No, not really.  I played Counterstrike, Painkiller...

Did you guys play at a professional level in those games?

UM: In Painkiller I was really good in Spain, but I couldn't manage to get into the CPL.

Do you think that WoW professional gaming is going to take off?  Compared to Counterstrike, or...

UM: I guess so.  It has a long way to go, but--

Do you think it's possible to make it exciting on TV?  That's one of the problems, it's like long matches...

UM: Yes, but I think Blizzard has to work a lot to improve the animations and such...
S: I think for TV, 3 on 3 will be much better than 2 on 2.  The matches are sometimes too long.

I think 5 on 5 would be pretty good too, though it would be hard to track.

UM: Yeah, 5 on 5 is really hard.
S: You need a lot of experience with WoW to understand it.

Do you think Blizzard is doing enough to appeal to PVPers?

S: Well, there's always more that they could do.

You think they're putting too much focus on PVE?

UM: For sure. (laughs)

I figured that would be the answer.  How'd you guys get yourself ready for the event?

UM: Well, we level up a lot of things...we play alot.

Like, how many hours per day, would you say?

UM: Uh, I'm not going to answer that.  (laughs)
S: Believe me, you don't want to know.

So it's a lot?

UM: Yeah.  It's a lot.

I think, to be at the top of the ladder you have to, though.  Because of the way it's designed.

UM: Yeah, you need a lot of team practice, and to play alot
S: You have to play with every setup, and know exactly what you can do with them.  You need a lot of practice.

What are you guys gonna do with the money?

UM: I don't know yet!  There's too much money!

When you guys came in here, did you think you were going to win?

UM: Well...sure.  You gotta be confident.

Have you played against any of the other teams here?

S: Yes, at Blizzcon.  We played with most of the European players, so yes.

Did you guys beat them there too?

UM: Yes and no.  We were...
S: Third.  We were third place at Blizzcon.

Do you guys like wombats?

UM: Wombats?  (pause)  No, I don't like them. (laughs)

Do you guys feel there are any big balance issues in pvp?  2v2 especially?

UM: No, 2v2 is not balanced at the moment, and I think that Blizzard is not going to balance it.
S: It's really difficult to make all classes balanced, you know?

What are the most overpowered?

UM: Warlock/Druid.  (laughs)  With a warlock/druid combo, you can beat...almost anything, really.

Any shout-outs you want to give?

UM: Uh, I want to thank my mom...
S: (laughs)

Congratulations to you both!

UM: Thanks!
S: Thanks very much.
