The server says nothing available try back shortly. Is anyone having this problem. Patch was over 30minnutes ago.

I understand some can't get into the game and i'm very sorry it took me forever before I did. But I am however a little fed up with patches having end times and they are not done. We all pay for this and when you say its 4hours then after 4hours it should be completed.

I get a no dns server available message on the patcher and trying to log onto their Web Site, anybody else getting this?

I'm on Starband for my Isp, except for long Ping Times I haven't had anyproblems in the past.

This is on a new Install of EQ also, also tryed after add Veleous, not tried SoL yet.

Luclin graphics are great. I love the characters. But man was it laggy. I'm mean too laggy to do anything. I started my new kitty and couldn't even figure out how to get outside because I could hardly move. I honestly can't believe I'm going to have to buy a new pc just to play in Luclin. Verant has obviously got me by the short and curlys.

I had the same lag problem. You need to turn down your graphics settings. If it is pausing and freezing. I have a 800mhz processor, 256 mb, and 64 ddr video card, and I still got video lag (probably my harddrive tooo slow). In anycase I turned down my graphics settings from high to medium, dynamic lighting off, and turned off socail emote animations. It worked no lag, and it still looks cool. So try this. And turn down clipping plane, should reduce it even more.

I hear ya. Last time I fell for that ol' trick was so I could play one of the Mechwarrior games. I forget which now, but it was the one that required at least a 486DX66 and I was sitting there with my homemade 486SX25, cussing them up one side and down the other for upping the minimum specs on me.

I am curious, I keep reading about the horrible lag....is this just in the new Luclin zones? I understand that this is where everyone wants to be, but having only play about 3 weeks myself now, I havent tried to go there yet or start a new character. However I am running luclin with all new Models and everything. From WC, Rivervale, and Gfay I am having no problems with Lag... Maybe it is just the highly trafficked new area? I must admit, it was pretty cool when I saw a kitty in Gfay last night.

A while back EQ ran a patch which caused a problem with our video card. Every time it rained, we would get booted. I advised my dad time and again that they would fix it and we didn't need a new video card. Finally, after a week, he broke down and bough a Hercules 3D Prophet MX II Card, and it fixed the problem. BAM!! 2 days later a new patch came out to repair our problem. Everyone going out and downloading all these files and buying all this new equipment needs to just have PATIENCE!! Verant screwed up. You know it, I know it, they know it. Let them fix it. It may take a little while. It may take a LONG while. but remember. EVERQUEST IS JUST A GAME!!! It may very well be an addicting game, BUT IT IS A GAME!! put it down for a week, go play kickball with your friends or whatever it is you people do outside everquest, and wait for Verant to fix it. They WILL fix it, too, in due time. I sincerely doubt they would have done this intentionally. Not very many companies intentionally put themselves in a position in which they will most likely go bankrupt if it isn't repaired. Just my 2 cents. (no..not my 2cp. for cryin out loud. when i log off, i come back to reality.)

I, for one, am impressed by this post. I do assume it was a younger poster (maybe incorrectly on my part) by the reference to kickball. Yet, they are still grounded in reality.

Therefore, this 5-year-old is showing more maturity than an unfortunately-high number of posters here.

I got on yesterday in. My char was in OT I dropped for 10,000 pts as soon as I logged on. A GM helped me in the normal time though. Other then that the lag was awfull, I saw many ppl go LD as well as myself. Still seemed pretty buggy. Whenever my Shammy meds I get a really wierd flickering screen thats shows the normal screen and flickers back and forth to the outside screen, and all messages as well as stats are frozen untill I get out of meditate. I did not see any upgrade in performance in the OT at least even though I just did a major RAM upgrade. This morning I got on through the patch server ok, but I couldn't get in the login server.
OK well thats about it that I can think of, I hope the rest of you have better luck

Is anyone else getting this error? I logged on and got to my character select screen ok (after trying all night on Tuesday to get the patch to work after installing it). When I went to create a new character (the new kitty of course) within seconds it crashed to the desktop and I got that error. I tried 3 times and it crashed every time. It may just be the lame Netzero connection I was using (waiting impatiently for my DSL stuff to arrive this week). That damn ad banner seems to suck too much of the already slow bandwidth. When I switched to a starpower account that I "borrowed" from work for a few minutes, I got on fine. Granted, it was slow and a little choppy. Ever time I turned 90 degrees, I was making almost total 360's. But overall it seemed fine. The new starting city looked sweet!! I got some great (although dark) screenshots of the castle. I can't wait till I get my DSL (***** Comcast @Home!!)

I'm running Windows Me on an AMD Duron 950MHz with 256MB RAM, a GeForce 2 with 64MB RAM, a Sound Blaster Live with all the latest and greatest drivers.

I, for one, am not too worried about the stability of the new expansion. It's a little frustration now, but EQ has been very stable for the past 2 years I've played, and I have no doubt that Verant will do everything they can to make sure the expansion is up to snuff as soon as possible. But that's just my 2 cents.

Ok Varient said to reload Direct x8.1 and then the newest drivers on top of that. Well it didnt work for me, but heres what did work. I ran the Direct X Diagnostic Program ( Run dxdiag ). Click on diplay, Disable Direct 3D, Reenable Driect 3D. Run the test it should work if it doesn't well i cant help you this is what worked for me

Ok I don't know about anyone else but I am quite upset that Verant has brought this new expansion out the way they did. I only started playing the game in June of this year due to a friends that has played and I thought it looked cool. I had an older system then and had the computer redone to be able to run EQ. Now 6 months later after spending mega bucks to do that, buying the first three part I need and paying them to let me play, I find out I wont ever be able to play EQ again unless I upgrade to WIN98 or high. Well damn It is less then a month till xmas, I am a single parent with two kids to support, where the hell does Verant think we are goign to get the money to do all this upgarding to do this. I could see if we could not run just the current expansion but not to be able to play at all and from what i can tell even the ones whose computers are equiped to handle the SOL still can not get on and play with any success or non lag or anything.
I really think Verant screwed themselves on this one.

Almost everyone will have to get a new video card, it looks like. Do the few whose systems are actually working have any recommendations for the cheapskates? I'm thinking either GeForce or Radeon, 32 MB, but which?

I have a ATI radeon 64 drr and the picture is Beautiful, but if I had my choice now I would have gone with the G-force 2. More bang for your buck. But the problem is I like picture quality not speed of the processor, and Ati has the pic quality and DVD decoder (tv out, hehehe). Some G-force 2s have it. Just laying out some specs for you.

Got an ATI Rage Pro MAXX. 32M memory, sold for about $60. Loaded DirectX 8.1 and the new drivers yesterday, no problems today.

I bought a GeForce2MX with 64MB for $86.99, put it into an Athlon 900 with 512MB, I run now at 1024x768 ALL 30 Models on and all details, works GREAT!!!!
PS. My wifes machine runs pretty good with a CLabs Annihilator Pro (32MB DDR Geforce)

I was able to get in and played for 6 hours last night. I wasn't able to see the new character models or the new scenery models until I upgraded my video driver. Im running a p4 1.7 with 256 mb pc800 and a geforce 3 and its still laggy for me with everything turned on. Hopefully the lag will diminish as verant makes adjustments, but even powerhouse systems are having their fair share of trouble.

BTW - the new character models look awesome! Especially the trolls!!

Getting in isn't everything it is cracked up to be... the performance is, for lack of a better word, nil... I've a 1.6ghz dell (and comparatively, dells are well stanced and effecient) with 512M ram, a matrox g400 max 32meg graphics card (dual monitors currently), a 2megabit DSL connection, and SBLive...

According to the game, with 512 ram I should only load 30 character models (i.e, all of them) and the defaults are set to max display capabilities for optimum performace... I didn't realize verant was aiming for 1.5 frames per second. If I turn off ALL of luclins new graphics, put quality settings to minumum, and set the clipping plane to minumum, some of the old zones almost work as well as they did prior to my installing luclin, and the new zones... well, at least I get get through them, though I typically can't see what's more than 5 inches past my nose.

Is this a common problem for everyone here, or could it be a missetting on my end... I have winXP which had dx8.1 prebuilt in... I've gotten all the latest drivers, etc... no improvements.

Why did I buy this expansion again?

DOnt think its just you - my intel p4 1.7 with a 64 geforce 3 is chuggin. I onlyhave 256 mb of ram, but its pc800. Im hoping I wont havta get more.

Interesting that its not running better for you. I played about 4 hours last night and other than long zoning times everything ran pretty good. I used all 30 models too. This is with Athlon 900, 512MB, Geforce2MX 64MB SDRAM, Cable modem. You computer was faster and the rest of the specs are close...maybe your server?

Ladies and gentlemen! We HAAAAVE Luclin! I had all those same problems too. Upgrade your video card - to Direct X 8.1 and keep trying to log in... That's what I did. By the way - Even with 256MB of RAM - you can still only SAFELY display 15 new models. Out of about 30. Also it's still lagging like a real beetch. Couple of things I want to say. Firstly, my own problem. I've done everything right as far as I know but I still get the No 3D Device Found message but I'm guessing that's because my rather dated ATI Rage IIC video card does not support 3D accerleration (although it worked fine b4 and is a 3D card). I was going to buy a new video card but I just took my CPU apart to check and unfortunately the video card is integrated into the motherboard so basically I will need a new computer.

Secondly, why didn't Verant stagger the introduction of Luclin? I used to play UO and when they introduced a big expansion, they always did it a few servers at a time. Of course they still had problems but they would just back up the system and delay the release of the expansion. Was a bit frustrating at times but nothing compared to this. I don't know the set-up of Verant's servers and maybe a staggered implementation plan is not possible but this is an absolute nightmare.

If you are getting no 3d device found check and make sure you are using Directx8.1 not directx8.0, you can download DirectX8.1 at http://www.microsoft.com/directx
If you are still getting the message right click on My Computer, select Properties then Performance, click on the button for graphics and make sure that the slider is set to full acceleration.
For 2000 and most likley XP users, this is how to change the graphics acceleration setting:
Right-click desktop, choose Properties
Choose Settings tab.
Advanced button.
Troubleshooting tab.

*********Also I have been told that DirectX 8 has a bug in it where Direct 3D Acceleration is
listed as Enabled when it is really Disabled. This is a leading cause of the "No 3D devices found"...****************
The above was my problem

Open up DxDiag and click on the display tab. Click ONCE on the disable button for Direct3D
acceleration. If Direct3D Acceleration is still listed as Enabled then this
should have fixed your problem. If it is now listed as Disabled then we need to look at other issues.
Please start a new thread including your dxdiag and msinfo.

One of many possible solutions. I had an ATI Rage LT PRO AGP 2x. I had to install a program called OpenGL Without it no matter what version of Direct X I ran, my system wouldn't recognize anything above 4.1. I think you can find it here: www.opengl.org

As to your second question, ALL servers were down from about 12 PST on Dec 3 until about 3:15pm PST on Dec 4, no staggering

If this is an option for you, go purchase your new card and install it in an open slot. You can always go into display proproties and remove the settings for you currect card. Good Luck!

ok to fix eqmain.dll here is what i did and it worked everytime, although it takes a while due to patching. firstt uninstall eq then delete your everquest folder, the whole thing and delete it from recycle bin. after that install everquest and go in through check. check the expansions you have activated on you account. ( note: you do not need to install luclin or any other disks u have, just install plain eq. the patcher will update it so you can go to those zones. Enjoy.

Got a 404 error when I tried to login here... oh well.

Anyway, went on last night, 5pm EST.

Downloaded my updated video card drivers (for a GEForce 2), installed directx 8.1, installed my new drivers, booted up EQ and ran the patch the first time. Took me about 3 minutes to download on a cable modem.

Logged in, found my bard was broken, logged out.

dam you people need to chill out. i have not been able to play since the 4th but i am shure everything will work it self out just fine. go out and enjoy the day. i am shure in the end all these problems will be worth it.could also go play daoc but that game just sucks so good luck.

I have upgraded my 1.4Ghz Pentium IV 256Mb Ram running WinME with DirectX 8.1, Updated the Geforce MMX/MMX400 drivers with the driver linked from the matrix on Sony's EQ site, and done all the patches. I can get as far as the character select screen, then wait.....wait....wait....."You have been disconnected"....kicked back to Desktop, AOL crashes, Comp won't respond. WTF is happening ? anyone know ?

AOL is not the problem here. I have it and have been able to connect a notebook with a Rage something or other video card and a desktop with a GeForce 2 using AOL. Not the perfect ISP, but I am not the decision maker in the house. Try re-installing the drivers and see if that works

I have a new pc and I really don't feel like messing up my currently bug free hardware config to get Luclin to 'possibly' work! I cannot believe that a company could be so unprofessional as to get us, the paying players to fix their own bugs for them, wasting hours and hours of our time.
I will come back and try every week or so for them to get their system sorted out due to my dedication to the game.
Reading that group buffs and bard songs don't work makes me mad. I have never in two years written anything bad about Verant, but this just takes the biscuit.
Verant : Your game is broken. It saddens me to realise they must have known that it was! They did not miss these bugs, they let them through to make the December release date. Big business and profit rules all.

OK BLOODY HELL...TOOK FOREVER TO FIND A STORE SELLING LUCLIN..got home installed expansion patch took 5 hours (with dsl) time for work...8 hours of hell thinking about Luclin...come home..patch didnt take repatch (faster this time0..actually get on ..bring out druid try to fine out how to get to Luclin..get TL to gfay spires...hailed wizzy for stone..kept spellin lucin not luclin...finaly figured out its luclin (dah) (wtf i was tired)...get stone for teleport...waiting for teleport...still waiting for teleport...ok time for teleport...LOADING...HMMM...BAM BOOM (blank screen)...Bam (desk top)...illegal proceedure...everquest has performed an illegal proceedure (no ****) (wtf)...click details.(error unknown)..(grrrrr)...click eq icon...patching...blah blah blah...charactor select...Naqrule (in LUCLIN) (of course)...click play eq...bam boom...(desk top)...(arghh wtf)..repeat...repeat ...repeat...repeat..(f this im going to bed)

oh yeah forgot to mention the 10 other tries after i woke up the busy signal for hours trying to call "tech support" and the hours spent waiting in chat trying to get into tech room for some kind of reply other then check eq site for FAQs which my prob was not represented..the countless reinstalling of 3 cds..thank god i have 1.4 gig cpu 512 ram (got ready for the new expansion..good thing too...yeah right)if i didnt have so much damned time invested in this game it would be trashed....Phew well i feel a little bit better now..(wtf im going to bed)

Guys,
I have Win 2k Pro, A-T-bird at 1Ghz, 512m, 64m gf2 gts pro and the game works fine! except for the refresh rate (they have it less than 85Hz, which is annoying), I have little complaints. Nice and smooth is most places as well. Guess I got lucky!

ok, guys I had winME and was trying to upgrade dx8.0 to 8.1 and the thing wouldn't patch up right. if you're getting errors at windows startup after you patch 8.1 and you're running ME, you might want to consider investing in winXP. I went to wal-mart(it was 2am, I have no life) and picked it up, installed it(about an hour) reinstalled my voodoo5 drivers(get them at www.voodoofiles.com and make sure to get the xp patch for them) and it works like a champ now. Now the only issue is to get about 20 gig or steenkin ram to see the neato character models. hope this helps some peeps. if you don't feel like shelling out the extra cash for xp, try reinstalling windows. I was about to but I got paid today :P

ok guys here is the thing, if you have windows xp or just upgraded to exp <like i just did so i could get a more stable high mem OS> you will probably findout to your dismay that the the luclin patcher will crash if you try to load it.
the error msg will read < Elegal opp by EQ.exe > and it will ask you if you want to report it to Microsoft and five you a button to click.

In truth it is not the luclin patcher that is bugged but the MS debugger that is bugged, it sees a unknown prob with EQ and wont let you load it. So this is what you do, go to start and right click my computer. go to properties. click on the advance tab then click on error reporting and disable error reporting. this will fix the the problem with the patcher crashing 90% of the time, hope it helps, later guys

Got up early and downloaded the fix. Got to the character screen and the black boxes were gone, but all my characters where missing parts of their armor. I loged one in and it was the same thing! They were kicking everyone off for at 3:00 am PT for a 4 hour patch. Have to wait and see how much this helps.
