New class confirmed on test

Tonight on test server, the UI files were updated. Included in the EQUI_CharacterCreate.xml file is a new class option at the character creation screen:

Further examination of the eqstr file reveals the following:
5791 Berserker 5792 Berserker GM 5793 Brawler 5794 Vehement 5795 Rager 5796 Fury
Titles perhaps? Edit, the character create on Test does strange things when you select Ogre, Troll, Vah Shir, Barbarian and Human - leading us to believe that those are the valid races for the new class

On Berzerkers...

I'd like to see this implemented as a hp for ability class (at least in part). Instead of mana, have special disciplines that cost x% of hitpoints or at least drain them an a significant rate. Would add strategy to the class I think.

Been tried on another game called Kingdom of Drakkar. Not fun to play a class that drains its hp during combat, even if the class avoided dmg better than rogues do...

When I think of a Berserker, i think of a warrior that would have 2x the strength, but like 1/2 the defense.

I'm thinking, Warrior based, better offensive discs, zero defensive discs. Lets cut that pie up even more into tinyer pieces!

Then again, they may end up a chain class or even leather.

Here's hoping they don't boost server population of tank classes, if there is more than 1/6 of the server population playing tanks, it gets harder to get groups.

Why not expand the game as well? Why not build a more robust comabt system and add it to the game, as they have already mentioned. Why not make it robust enough to believe that it could even support a new class? Why not have an open mind until you see the whole layout, without simply going into WHINE mode at the very first opportunity?

As you can see, there are plenty of questions about. Not all have to be negative.

Well Trellium from your post I am willing to put 50pp down says you are a Paladin or a Shadow Knight. Is it that easy to say "why not expand the game", and leave the problems behind for you?

Its kinda rough to find anything "positive" to say about making a new class, when the one you have been playing has been headed on a downhill spiral for the last 4 expansions. I play and have 4 65 characters Cleric, Shaman,Enchanter, and down here at the bottom my oldest and most dearly loved WARRIOR. Playing the others I can syphathise any non melle class in the game. HEY I dont blame you its like why hunt turkey with a BB-gun when you can use a SHOTGUN

When I play my warrior and am lucky to get a group, I am balanced on a tightwire of fragility that taunt button I put so much faith into for all these years has faded into obscurity. When was the last time you heard someone say TAUNT DAMMIT in any group you have been in latley? That used to be a hotkey with most clerics, they had faith too.

I dont want to retire my warrior and make any other melle. I want to be returned to the status I had when I made my character and Taunt actually MEANT SOMETHING

I feel your pain Pernicus - pearhaps the balancing they are doing with the whole endurance thing will make you happy, I hope it does.

I have brought recently two new people into EQ and both have said they see no real reason to play a warrior as opposed to a SK or Pally

However, with that said, If the effects of the changes to melee are as good as I'm hoping (I'm the eternal optimist) and they give the majority of them to Warriors and the Beserker does not get nearly as many - then perhaps the warrior will regain some of its glory it once had.

I for one wouldn't even mind if they just gave the warrior some abilities that make sense.

Mend Wounds which is really only Monk right now seems to fit the warrior archtype as well, I see no reason that warriors could not have that ability - Monks would loose little to nothing since they still would have FD. This would help slightly in Warrior Soloing to reduce downtime...

We shall have to see, its interesting for the time being there is an equal number of races to classes...is there a chance a new race will be included as well?

Very interested in seeing what this class can do. Just wondering if this class will be part of the new expantion slotted for next year or if they will launch it sooner then that.

Do you really think they would add a new class for free? If this was Asheron's Call I would say it is possible since they do give quite large updates to the world every month for free. But that hasn't been the MO for SOE.

Could this not be the melee changes that were stated on eqlive.com? That instead of adding in new disciplines for melee, that a class branching system will open up....in other words, to quiet the melee classes, Sony has yet again had EverQuest players beta things that are gonna be put into EQ2.....

Berserkers in the traditional sense don't have defensive abilities, no... They just don't sense pain until they're dead. That, I would have to say, is one of the best "defenses" I can think of. :P
