October-December Announcements Part 2

The holiday season is here and the Final Fantasy XI development elves have been busy putting together goodies for all the good boys and girls of Vana'diel. We are planning our next major version update for Thursday, December 9. The details of the update are as follows: There will be several new quests and events added to the Promathia areas. New quests will also be added in Non-Promathia areas. New monsters (including notorious monsters) will be added. Over 15 new "orb battles" will be added. Several new weapons, types of equipment, and items will be introduced. The difficulty of selected Promathia missions will be adjusted. Tavnazian Archipelago supply quests and regional teleportation will become available. Chat filter options will be expanded. A new Gobbiebag quest will be introduced. Shortcuts into Promyvion - Vahzl for those who have partially or fully completed the Promathia mission will be added. "Temporary items" found on the Balltista playing field may now be stored in one's inventory for the duration of the match(es). Also several previous "special" rules will be implemented permanently. A new point system for rating Ballista participants on their performance will be introduced. The stack number for several select items will be increased from 12 to 99. In accordance with the adjustments, players will be unable to put items up for auction for a short period of time. Details on this temporary maintenance will be provided soon. Several previously unstackable foods will now be stackable. The duration and effect of certain foods will be adjusted. The Old Sabertooth in Sauromugue Champaign will no longer drop any items. The variety of items that can be dug up using the "Scavenge" ability will be increased. A new thief job trait will be added. The potency of etudes will be adjusted. "Spirit Link" will now heal a wyvern's status ailments. The accuracy of "Blood Pact" attacks during magic bursts will be adjusted. The strength of "Blood Pact" attacks will not increase as much when fighting weaker enemies. The order of messages that appear when using the /nominate, /vote and /propose commands will be adjusted The fee collected when placing items on auction will be determined by the current auction price, not the store/guild selling price. In addition to the changes mentioned above, many other adjustments are being made. A complete list of all changes will be available on the day of the update. Also, we are planning several new events for the end of the year, so keep your eyes open! Another issue being addressed during this version update is the monopoly over certain monsters and items by a number of players. The development team is currently working on several methods to combat these types of actions. Some methods include the introduction of similar items, and new ways of obtaining items. Articles 23, 24 and 25 of the PlayOnline User Agreement as well as Article 6 of the Finaly Fantasy XI User Agreement specificly prohibit the sale of any in-game money, characters, and/or items on internet auctions, etc. Any players found participating in RMT (Real Money Trading), whether it be buying or selling, may have their accounts terminated. Please consider the consequences before partaking in actions that may result in the destruction of all your player characters. Finally, for all existing and future Windows version players, we have developed a new benchmark program to test the playability of Finaly Fantasy XI on your personal computer. "Vana'diel Bench 3" will not only display the stunning landscape of the Lufaise Meadows, but will also offer a sneak peak into some of the most exciting cutscenes from the Chains of Promathia missions! To download this free software, visit the Final Fantasy XI homepage, or any participating game sites.

i for one will be looking forward to find the ways SE will stop people from camping out NM's..

i joined a few months ago and heve never even bothered to think about trying to get a NM ever because i just dont have the tools to do things like hunt lizzy.. (spud on alexander ring a bell with anyone?) so a chance to go out and hunt and earn these drops that sell for close to half a mil on my server would be great!

well what else can be said, I hope this update is everything its hyped up to be. I just hope this makes it more of a level playing field for the average joe i.e. people w/ jobs, families and other obligation who only get maybe 2hrs top to play during the day. So now we don't have to spend half of that farming and doing quest to get that all important piece of armor. But all and all AWSOME.

This all sounds like great news! Maybe I can get sniper's rings or equivalent, since there is a monopoly on archer's rings, without spending almost 1 million gil!

Im a little confused about this one, is that just for those that camp NM or also for those that farm alot. Cuz i dont know if i can go ou and farm for my gil to spend without risking being labeled as worker for gilseller and get banned, punished or whatever. If that the case, i fear that a witchhunt is comming soon and useless GM call cuz this guy stolen my mob and stuff like that. maybe im out of the track, i need a little enlightement about this issue. Thanks in advance if someone can answer me. (I need gil for my Brigandine +1, only got 100k right now and its 500k at the AH, i think)

Yes they're talking about the NMs and named monsters drops, and other mobs that spawn like them.

It is, afterall, kinda impossible to monopolize on rarabs d:

I think what I'm most excited about is:

-New items
-Non stackable items now stackable. I hope they change some food items to stackable items.
-NM Drop change
-New NMs and Mobs
-THF job trait (I'm guessing Gilfinder II but it could be something else)

Skeptical about:
- Gil seller thing. they were already banning people, but maybe they're going to take a more active part in it.

- AH fee. Based on AH price now. Some transaction fees are gonna get quite pricy. Kraken club transaction fee, 200k anyone?

Thats the point, the more you sell it for, the less profit you get, the idea being that ppl will stop putting ridiculous prices on items that are nowhere near worth it. Its bascially SEs way of sayin that your not gonna sell items for more then they belive it to be worth.

I'm so glad that SE is finally listening to the players. It's funny that so many people actually said "Quit whining about Gil sellers, SE won't do anything." Perhaps instead of whining about the whiners, you should have done the same so you could say "I made a difference." It never hurts to try.

As for the updates, being a thf, I hope the new trait is worth while. Maybe TH3 :P Or Gil Finder 2. Or something to allow thfs to Trick solo. If none of those things, ill still be happy with the update. Sounds like a good one.

There is only one way to stop gil selling/buying: Make gil Rare/Ex. Kill Bazaars, Kill ability to trade gil, Kill ability to Deliver gil. You MIGHT be able to keep AH going, but people would just both go up to the same AH. Find something that nobody is selling. put 1 on AH for x million gil. and then the seller just buys that item for x million gil.

People will always find a way around it.

Can't just go after people that send gil - People legally send gil to people every second.
Can't just go after people that send gil to people they've never met - what about mules
Can't just go after people that send gil to players on a different account, that you have never met. - That's just going to make gil xfers take to personal transactions.

It’s like the drug trade. It can't go away, people will find a way around it. All you can do is catch the people you can, and try to make enough of an example out of them to scare others from doing it.

Only way to stop it is for SE to sell gil themselves, but they can’t do that. It would be creating gil just to sell which would decimate the economy even more.

Selling gil is unethical, and wrong. You are making real cash by providing a service that the company in charge isn’t able to provide. You’re stealing money from that company.

People will always want to buy gil, either because they play the game 2 days a month and don’t want to waste their time farming, or because they’re too lazy to go farm. Farming is boring and not fun. People want to have fun, and its hard to have fun when you’re broke and have people yelling at you for having crappy gear.

Humans are all about instant gratification. People don't like paying for a game just to spend half their time being bored.
Which is why when people discover BCNMs they like them so much (personally think they should lower Beastmen seal requirements to 1/2 - 20 for BCNM 40 etc) They can have fun, be uber, show their skills, and get gil at the same time. Its just spectacular.

I agree, it is hard telling the difference between 'normal gil traffic' and that which is suspiscious. However i think this patch will represent changes in the underlying system. Think of it this way. Possibly a way to track players gil flow (data is all there just have to implement some huristics).

Lets imagine that player X in the last 2 weeks has done nothing but be in one zone. never logging off always doing something. This would be suspiscious behavior that could throw flags.

Of specifically with rare or semi rare drops, if one player is the main seller of these and all they do is send large transactions of gil to other players. that would be flagged as suspiscious behavior.

Perhaps this or something similar is what they will implement. Same core data mining that will have more credibility then 'player A reports that they think player B is a gilseller'

Wow that is the best post I have ever read But drugs are addictive thats is why it can not be stopped gil selling can if there would be a way to make it easier to get gil and not raise the price of everything, like making bcnms cost less seals and Nms have better drop rates normal mobs too this way gil sellers loss customers and go out of buissnes!

I dunno if I like NMs in the first place. I think that for instance: leaping boots.

All Lizards of the same type (North + South Gustaberg and Wadi) have a chance to drop the item. Only if you get experience from that mob. The more of that mob you kill, the less chance you have to get the drop. (Lets say you kill 200 in 1 hour, your chances go down to almost zero - But if you kill 10 in one hour, your chances are much higher.) It takes into account how many people are in your party (higher with more people) and how long it takes you to level at that level (so you have a maybe 1/5 - 1/2 chance of getting the boots during those levels) Leaping boots and other items way too powerful for their level should probably be rare/ex.

The only other way to resolve the issues is to make Leaping Lizzy Spawn ANYWHERE on any map that the specific type of lizard can spawn (for leaping lizzy, N+S Gustaberg and Wadi). Ranger/Thfs, thf/rangers, and beastmasters would still have a definate advantage but every-day people actually LEVELING in that range have a much greater chance to get those boots. Camping NMs is a major problem that needs to be addressed.

All SE does by having it the way they have it now is encourage botting, and making the rich get richer and saying "***** you" to the casual user.

I LOVE the way you get power sandals. a rare/ex item that you use forever, you have to NOT finish the quest to keep them, and you can only do it once. Its just amazing to me. Terribly powerful item with a difficult quest attached to it. I hardly see any tanks using them, and it is available to anybody with the fame. More items should be received this way (Monster Signa should be like this and rare/ex IMHO)

There's just one problem with this that I see, and that is that some quests to get certain items as rewards are ridiculously hard enough as it is, this may just make it worse, especially when the quest that said item is supposed to complete is a prerequesite to another quest that you really need (like an avatar or AF quest).

I like the fact they are taking into consideration this gil selling thing, but let's not get too carried away. We are trying to make it harder for them to do these illegal acts, not make it tougher on US to do or want to do certain required quests, and I believe this suggestion, while good, will only cause more stress.

RE: expensive stuff

Rdm spells hardly cost half of whm spells and rdm have less spells to buy which is a bad thing. Don't whine about the price of a few spells, every spell is worth there price well almost every spell.

I expect some or all of these will be in the expansion areas, with some of the new monsters.

And while I enjoy a good BCNM now and then, where do you people get the seals for these? I've been saving up forever and barely have enough for 2 BCNM60s.

They are Gil SELLERS, not FARMERS. If you have EVER attacked monsters over and over for their drops and sold the items on the AH, you are a gil farmer. They are very different terms :P

Laute is right - maybe they should have waited longer on CoP so they could flesh some of it out more, but CoP delivers a really cool new story and tons of great new areas and monsters.

And, by the way, people are always complaining about the download times. If you didn't notice, CoP is about 2 gigs in size, which makes it FAR too large to download, and not particularly economical for Square, either.
RE: Yeah
# Nov 30 2004 at 7:39 PM Rating: Excellent
(Um...) Am I the only one who doesn't get this whole "cop sux amirite" posts?

CoP is an expansion. The key word there is expansion, which is a derivative of the verb "expand." Humor me, if you will.

"To expand: To increase the size, volume, quantity, or scope of; enlarge"

The point is that you're enlarging it. When you build an expansion on a house, you don't expect the added rooms to immediately pop up filled with a bed, a sink, a stove, a washing machine, or whatever it is you added. You expect to get an empty room. Following the logic of all you CoP let-downists, (Yes, it's a word now. Shuddap. :e ) this added room is a waste -- since you didn't get immediate gratification from it, and it requires more work to make worth it, it should never have been built at all. However, what you neglect to mention are all the possibilities that the room (Or, conversely, CoP) actually added.

That's right. This takes time. However, CoP added many things: A new town, dozens of new zones, and the framework for a near complete item overhaul, via the new synthesis key items and dispense/enchant items.

Sure, a pellet belt may be pretty useless as of yet, but the framework is there to add quite a many other things based on this system. I can guarantee you that over the course of future updates, we'll see quite a few new recipes that use Rogue's Platinum Ingots or some other similar item.

Someone once put it best by saying that expansions create room for new things, while the updates themselves fill up the room that's created. Even if you absolutely loathe the Promathia missions... (And if you do, what exactly were you expecting out of this expansion? Load it up and an NPC gives you Kirin's Osode and a bottle of ecstasy? C'mon.) Even if you absolutely loathe everything this expansion added, why can't you admit that in the upcoming months, various patches might actually make it worth your while?

Oh, and to note: No, I'm not blindly defending S-E. I love the story and various other things they added in CoP; however, quest-wise I was a little disappointed so far. I love to get random rewards from silly little quests, whether they're worth it or not. However, it seems that way too many of these quests give you 3k or something silly that isn't really worth the effort involved.
Hmm....

"The fee collected when placing items on auction will be determined by the current auction price, not the store/guild selling price."

I'm not sure if anyone thinks this is a big deal, but it very well might be. Imagine if you try to sell a Kraken Club for 30 million gil, and the AH fee is now determined by the current auction price... this could mean the fee is going to be 10%, like the Jeuno tax... that would mean the AH fee is 3 million gil (| No Thanks.|) This would probably make players scared to put up extremely valuable items, in fear of getting undercut and not selling the items, and only then to lose a huge AH fee :(
RE: Hmm....
# Nov 30 2004 at 7:53 PM Rating: Decent
Haha, that might start dropping prices down, seeing people are going to be thinking about the fee with how the AH prices are instead of just praying it's under 1k for 1 item.

I do hope they do something about guild campers. Saruta cotton sells for 80 gil at the guild but 450 each at the ah, whats with that? I hope that they make it so the guild doesnt run out or put a limit on the amount of stacks you can buy at a time.) New quests(
