FINAL FANTASY XI Update (Jul. 19)

Wow, this thing is huge. [Event-Related] *A new chapter has been added to "Chains of Promathia." *A new quest called "The Fellowship Quest" has been added. Upon completion of this quest, the player will receive an item used to call an NPC. -The NPC may not be called during NPC escort quests, but may be used along with beastmasters' pets, summoners' avatars, and dragoons' wyverns. -The NPC may only be called in certain field areas. -The NPC may fight monsters, gain experience, and level up with the player. -A player fighting with an NPC fellow will receive only 70% of the usual experience points gained for solo battles. -The NPC may be called only when there are less than six members in the player's group. A party may contain a maximum of three NPC fellows, along with the three players who have called them. -If the NPC's level exceeds that of the player, its status will be adjusted to match the player's level. -The NPC's equipment will occasionally change after fighting several battles. -The NPC will leave if the player: -temporarily logs out to PlayOnline -logs out -enters a different area -is KO'd -All NPCs in a party will leave if the party attempts to increase its total number of players and NPCs to seven. *Several new quests have been added, including: -A quest in which the player may acquire headgear that resembles various beastmen -Rematches with mammets and the Mithran sin hunters And more! *An NPC that tells the player's fortune regarding titles and other "elements" has been added in Mhaura. *Character title selection has been changed in the following ways: -It now costs less gil to change a player's title. Also, it now costs no gil at all to check the player's list of available titles. -The NPC bard that changes player titles will now sing out the player's title just before changing it. -After changing the player's title, the NPC bard will sing out the new title. Nearby PCs will also be able to hear the new title. -The player will now have the option to have a random title selected for him or her at no cost once each day (Earth time). -Titles earned by defeating NMs are now available for selection not just at Selbina and Mhaura, but also at Kazham and Rabao. *A chocobo riding game has been added. The player must deliver a chocobo from the chocobo stables where the quest was offered to a designated nation. *Players are now able to talk to an NPC and check the remaining time until they are able to reenter the battlefield for the ENM quests "Pulling the Strings" and "Automaton Assault." *"Return Ring" and "Homing Ring" have been added to the list of items that may be earned by exchanging conquest points. *If a player has completed the quests to get a pair of Mannequin Pumps or a Minstrel's Dagger but disposed of the item he earned, the player may now reacquire the item at the same place he attained it. *Mythril Plate Armor has been added to the list of equipment that may be stored as a key item. *A new NPC that will trade items for treasure earned by defeating Lumorian monsters has been added. [Battle-Related] *Players are now able to earn experience from monsters of a wider level range than previously possible. Experience points earned by defeating "decent challenge" and "easy prey" monsters will also increase in some instances. *Experience chain bonuses in level-restricted areas of Chains of Promathia are now determined by the level of the player while in that area, rather than the player's actual level. *Monster locations have been adjusted, particularly in Chains of Promathia areas. The following areas will be affected: Bibiki Bay, Uleguerand Range, Attohwa Chasm, Newton Movalpolos, Promyvion – Holla, Promyvion – Dem, Promyvion – Mea, Promyvion – Vahzl, Lufaise Meadows, Phomiuna Aqueducts, the Sacrarium, Riverne – Site #A01, Riverne – Site #B01, the Garden of Ru'Hmet, Ro'Maeve, the Boyahda Tree, the Den of Rancor, the Shrine of Ru'Avitau, Kuftal Tunnel *The damage and accuracy of a player's ranged attack are now calculated based on the distance of the player from the monster. This determination varies from weapon to weapon, as does the ideal distance for maximum damage. In addition, the higher the monster's level is with regard to the player, the less damage will be dealt with a ranged attack. *The player's enmity now decreases when a shadow image created by Utsusemi is absorbed by an attack. *Weather will no longer have an effect on the distance a player can be detected for monsters that detect based on the use of magic. *Several new notorious monsters have been added. *Creatures summoned by monsters (excluding elementals) have had their names changed to "(Monster's name)'s Avatar" for consistency. *The strength of monster techniques has been adjusted, particularly in Chains of Promathia areas. *A player who is KO'd, revived, then while still in a weakened state KO'd again will now, after a second reviving, temporarily experience a weakened attack and accuracy loss for magic and ranged attacks. *Before the update, a player who fought a monster without using auto-attack would retain his claim on the monster, even if he was KO'd in battle due to poison, etc. This has been fixed so that when the player dies, the monster becomes unclaimed. *Before the update, a monster that was claimed by a party or alliance would occasionally go unclaimed when magic or a weapon skill was used on the monster as the monster moved out of range before the magic or weapon skill could strike. [Item-Related] *Trading a wijnruit and 99 ninja tools to a certain NPC can now earn the player a toolbag. This item may be gathered in stacks of twelve, essentially increasing the player's ninja tool inventory capacity twelvefold. *New synthesis recipes have been added. *Prices at guilds have been changed to reflect the amount of each item the guild currently has in stock. The cost may rise to a maximum of five times the original price. *Some of the treasure items earned from notorious monsters in the Boyahda Tree have been changed. *The way that the following items are acquired has been changed: Archer Ring, Leaping Boots, Emperor Hairpin, Peacock Charm In addition, players may receive an EX/Rare or EX item with the same attributes from the monsters who previously dropped each of the above items. *The effects of the following items have been altered: Poison Potion, Venom Potion, Paralyze Potion, Sleeping Potion, Silencing Potion, Blinding Potion, Vitriol, Instant Warp, Bastok Mines gate glyph, Bastok Markets gate glyph, Port Bastok gate glyph, Eastern San d'Oria gate glyph, Western San d'Oria gate glyph, Northern San d'Oria gate glyph, Windurst Waters gate glyph, Port Windurst gate glyph, Windurst Woods gate glyph, New Year's gift, Cantarella, Black Drop, Muting Potion, Invitriol, Warp Cudgel, Trick Staff II, Treat Staff II, Teleport ring: Holla, Teleport ring: Dem, Teleport ring: Mea, Teleport ring: Vahzl, Teleport ring: Yhoat, Teleport ring: Altep, Memento Muffler, Gargoyle Boots, Zoolater Hat, Root Sabots, Aries Mantle, Anubis's Knife, Oscar Scarf, Kinkobo, Carpenter's Belt, Blacksmith's Belt, Goldsmith's Belt, Weaver's Belt, Tanner's Belt, Boneworker's Belt, Alchemist's Belt, Culinarian's Belt, Fisherman's Belt, Counter Earring, Tactical Ring, Wing Gorget, Healing Feather, Spirit Lantern, Astral Pot, Homing Ring, Return Ring, Absorbing Shield, Tavnazian Ring, Ducal Guard's Ring, Maat's Cap, Kingdom Stables Collar, Republic Stables Medal, Federation Stables Scarf, Cursed Beverage, Cursed Soup *The item "Timepiece" has been added to the list of special items a player may receive 100 days after participating in the Vana'diel Adventurer Recruitment Program. *The following item names have been changed in the English version: Panzer Mask -> Panther Mask Panzer Mask +1 -> Panther Mask +1 Amemit Mantle -> Amemet Mantle Amemit Mantle +1 -> Amemet Mantle +1 *The item name "Comet" has been changed to "Little Comet." *An attribute of the following item has been changed: Darksteel Pick +1 Delay:312 -> Delay:303 [System-Related] *Region Info may now be viewed from all areas. *Messages may no longer be sent using /tell to a player on the user's blacklist. *Along with the introduction of the Fellowship Quest, players may now combine text commands with to target their NPC fellows and execute their desired actions. Also, if a player enters during a match, both forces will receive a message notifying them of the new entry. The player must have the following in order to enter a match already underway: -A Ballista License -Enough gil to enter the match -The minimum level required for the match being played -A player who has just entered an official match or a match in Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba that was already underway will temporarily be placed under "Preparing for Battle" status. -Players may now borrow the key items "Ballista Earring" and "Ballista Band" free of charge from the Pursuivant in Ru'Lude Gardens. Ballista Earring: When in possession of this item, the player will receive information about the next Ballista match and the entry registration time when entering San d'Oria, Bastok, Windurst, or Jeuno from one day prior to the match (Vana'diel time) until the end of the entry period. Ballista Band: When in possession of this item, the player will be given the choice of whether to keep or throw away the first Petra he quarries. Ownership of a Ballista License is not required to borrow the above items. The player may return the items simply by speaking to a Pursuivant. -Players are no longer able to adjust Petra selection settings in Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba. The player will be given the option of what to do with the first Petra quarried only when in possession of the new key item "Ballista Band." -The following rules have been changed from special rules to standard rules. -Camp locations will change when the number of participants in a match is 40 or less. -The number of Rooks will be reduced to two when there is a significant difference in the number of players on each side. -Players will now receive experience points for participating in an official match. -The system of "Open Entry" for official matches, in which all adventurers were allowed to join the force with the smallest number of participants, has been done away with and replaced by a system called "Temporary Entry," in which players may join a force regardless of allegiance. However, the player's entry is temporary, and similar to Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba's "Auto-Balance" feature, the players may be redistributed for balance when the match begins. -In Ru'Lude Gardens, the player will be able to view Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba's reservation status. Reservations for the next two days (Earth time) will be shown. -The NPC Tillecoe will now inform the player of the match's level restriction when a match at Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba is set to allow general participation. -Temporary items will now be distributed at the start of official matches held at the Pashhow Marshlands. -A section of the Ballista rulebook that is read out by the Pursuivant has been changed. -The rate of success for Foe Lullaby and Horde Lullaby has been lowered for players with bard as a support job. -A limit has been imposed on the amount of HP that can be absorbed by Bloody Bolts' HP Drain effect during Ballista.

I hate to bring ppl down but won't LL boots and archer's rings only experience a change in who camps them seeing as they can be crafted into better items that are not RARE or EX?

What i got from the bit o info is that there will be new drops off the nms that we all curse. these drops will be rare ex versions of our old favorites. The real classics of over camping will be dropped somewhere else (i think someone said bcnm and that makes sence to me, think astrals). For you synthers i have no idea how that will really effect you <_< >_> i make darksteel ingots. Thats about the extent of understanding of synthing.

I think this sounds really good, even though I dont really use any items that are really camped (:cough: Black Mage). That is since i have my moldy earring already, which was always a rare/ex.

Initially, this will be a problem... but that would be intitally...

We might not see any changes to the NM camping for a few months... but there is no quick-fix solution to the problem, this is a long-term change which will benefit both experienced players levelling new jobs, and reasonably new players, by equalling the accessibility to these "replacement" items. Once the initial rush is over (and believe me, there always is - noticed how empty promyvions usually are these days? When I first got CoP... believe me, those areas were pretty busy!), this will calm down.

It's not an instant fix which will be noticable as soon as we log back on... but as a game mechanic, it's a long-term change which will benefit both old and new players alike.

Just my 2 cents...

I can understand SE making argus, LL, VE, etc into rare/ex items, but doesnt that detract from the original purpose for these items? Initially these item were meant to separate the newbies from the experienced players(I know i'm not getting my point across effectively, just dont know another way to say it. Please just try to hear me out.) It was a way to show that "Hey i'm a high level player...just leveling a low level job atm". I geuss what i'm really trying to say is SE has lowered the sentimental value of these items. A lot of us farmed for days to get some of these, some of us for weeks depending on the item. I just feel like my time was wasted, along with the money I spent to get them.

On the flip side, I'll see you in maze of shakrami tomorrow. I want a peacock charm. If you cant beat 'em, join 'em. Rate up if you agree ^^
mistake?

I would just like to start off saying that the bots will not stop camping these nm's. No instead they will do it in parties, so when they get the drop they can do shouts in what ever zone there in for someone to buy them. It happens with the brown belt NM's, and it will happen with these. But only time will tell.

The four items listed above will be rare/ex so once they get them they can't sell them.

OK, I'm a ninja, so I have to say a few things.

First off the bat, this update catagorically does NOT "nerf" ninjas in any way - if anything, it actually gives us a far larger increase in power! No ninja ever relies on shadows alone to keep hate anyway - it will make it easier for all tanks to voke or pull back hate from a Thf/Nin, War/Nin or, as will mostly be the case, Rng/Nin. Also, the increase in tools will be hugely beneficial to Ninjas - I keep six stacks of shihei on me at all times... now I might be able to keep six stacks stacks of 12x99 = 7128 Shihei. This, for me, is godly and I cannot wait to get in-game, get a few more shihei stacks and do this.

Secondly, the notorious monster rare items... I, for one, applaud SquareEnix for this bold decision. Every single time I pass by the Leaping Lizzy spawn area, I see at least a good 12-18 people camping it - why? Do they need the item? Of course not! They're doing it for the gil, while people who want the item are forced to go without to satiate the gil-thirst of the higher level players. Now, these mobs will be freed up and only those who need the items will hang around the camp spots - which means finally, the power balance can be fixed and the lower-lvl players will be able to get the item they need/want without fear of a bunch of selfish 50+ idiots taking it out just to make a quick buck. Bravo, SE, bravo and thrice, BRAVO! I applaud this change! I applaud it some more!

Finally, I like the ideas of the new quests. I like the idea of NPC characters supporting a party IF the A.I. is right (Anyone who's done an escort quest will know what I'm talking about). But also, I worry about their benefits - NPC characters can be stupid at times, and I would still only prefer to party with real people who know how to do their job... this is a great idea for some of the lower level areas, but after 50, I fail to see their use - the mobs get tougher and you wouldn't keep an idiot around fighting things like Robber Crabs, so an A.I. NPC character - {No thanks.} The chocobo quest sounds cool (Shame it's not the "racing" that was bandied about as a rumour though, I personally loved that idea!), an extra CoP quest sounds great, being able to see a list of your user titles without paying the gil is an excellent change, and the idea of an NPC to say how long it will be before you can re-enter a Burning Circle? Great idea too.

All in all, this is the update I think most players have been waiting for. It addresses power balance, battle mechanics, emnity control will now be a higher priority which I see as a very good thing, it gives us new quests, frees up a Ninja's inventory giving us room for more important things (Food, medicines, extra armour etc)...

From where I'm standing, I see all of this as a very positive thing. People should stop worrying so much... I cannot wait to log back in. I'm hoping it's gonna feel like a whole new game again!
woot, woot...right?

I'm diffently going LL and VE camping once i get in, just to pray that these updates scare the GS Kiss(blahblah) group in Valkurn Dunes on Seraph v.v I've already lost the VE 2 twice to them >.>. And the new npc, that's going to be fun while lvling my smn and all other pre lvl 20 jobs. But the nin loosing hate >.< gah, that's going to make my job as a whm harder in nin tank parties. Well it can't be as bad as a tank that doesn't work with a thf for SATA >.> Hopefully I can finally get those 2 items, would be helpful in Ballista and preping for BCNM 20 for the astral ring. Anyone wanna join I got enough seals for 3 cloudy orbs just send /tell Akashimo if you're on Seraph. Anyways I wonder if the rng changes will be aplied to ballista? Cause when the other side is filled with them i recall FFX, "Death awaits you" ;.;

:) Just gotta say I'm a mid 58 pld but on friday i was a low 56! this is all thanks to having a rng/nin in the party. 2 parties one on friday night and last night, we were in Boyahda Tree killig crabs and crawlers with super fast speed. The rng/nin was 56 and i was having trouble keeping hate, i've never used cover so much in my life lol so i welcome the lower enmity using Utem, its gonna make grabbing hate back alot easier and make the party flow better. My downtime was zero as i had a v good rdm always making sure refresh was cast, the whole party agreed that we all knew our jobs amazingly well and was the best party we had ever been in. I was main tank and whenever the rng/nin got hate using his shotgun! after a cover, a voke and a cure 3 and we were back to normal hitting the bejesus out of the mobs :D we just continued this pattern for about 8 hours straight! I dont like partying with pure Ninjas as I find its a nightmare getting hate back but whenever I party with a nin as sub they been the best most fastest parties ever experienced. :) v v cool update.

First off, to the PLD: these are symbols of punctuation ;.,!?
Know them, use them, they are your friends.
Second: Loosing hate every time the RNG fires a shot is not something to be proud of.
RE: jk i love plds too..
# Jul 19 2005 at 4:40 AM Rating: Decent
lol this is a post not a essay, i dont care about punctuation at this point in time, my degree sucked out all my best english skills. I didnt lose hate after every shot, just a few times when the rng/nin used a shotgun ws and he apologised for it aswell. I was losing hate when he used Utem combined with a few hard arrows and shots, am v proud about losing hate only a few times as rng are one of the hardest hitters in game and Nin a 2nd tank, heres me with my little sword hitting for under 50 and taking hate back after a few covers. We all said that we worked very well together. Made me think about nin and this new update, SE prob intended people to use Nin as a sub and found alot of people using it as main so this lowered enmity is for the plds. We can get hate back easier from nin so the party can flow better and everyone can feel a bit safer with ninjas and plds working together.

Well I'm an open minded person so, I just speak from experience. And unfortunately it's never really been a good one with my NIN friends tanking. I just enjoy DOING something as a WHM not sitting around and eating fritos while NIN's go do what they do. I just wish that NINs aren't as good as they are. And from what I gather SE thinks so too.

I'm glad you're criticism wasn't too aweful bad :P Always like the feedback!

Err but still might come in handy if im lvling a sub, Wonder if ur NPCBuddy is a BST/SMN/DRG can i call anohther pet/charm?? Hmmm BST/WHM 2x sounds like a bad *** duo... This seems like the best part of the update so far.. PPL seem really Nervous about the NINJA tank thing, but i guess they compensated with the stack/bundle...
Im glad to see that SE there giving gilsellers a hard time...
But god, must they make the update 16(i think) hours long? err 3 oclock in the morning?!?
But its worht it, although it inturupeded my ballista match this morning... 3ppl on windy 2 on Basty... go figure... GOD I TALK TO MUCH

Hate me or love me.
I can't stand NINs at all that much.

That being said who cares if NINs are even MORE sucky as tanks, and yes I've had "good" NIN tanks too.
"Good" NIN tank = bored WHM (me)
"Bad" NIN tank = Dead* WHM (me)

*Thank god for Reraise 2*

I just hope SE makes NINs so sucky they totally dissapear from the tanking scene. I mean COME ON NINs make everyone in the Party adjust the way they play just so the WHM can have an easy job?! Sounds rather rediculous to me. PLD shoue be the ONLY job tanking and for good reason. You have a DD in the party for a reason... not to do half of their potential just so the stupid NIN can keep hate. And the mage support jobs (RDM BRD) are there for a reason.

Any WHM worth their weight in earth crystals should do just fine with PLD and a mage support job.

Can't believe no ones noticed the obvious disadvantage the whole RNG positioning thing will impose upon Balista RNGs. LMAO!! No more picking us off at Max range for 1 million damage. Gotta work for those kills now WOOT!

Before the insults start flying... remember I'm a WHM so all my opinions have that slant to them. And they are, after all, only my Opinions.

NIN tanking is more than just throwing shadows up, to be a tryly good NIN tank you have to be both a tank and a ninja. That being said, my main job is PLD, and i hated NIN for a while when they starte dgetting popular. 60+ sitting for days no invite does that to ya. but my opinion osnt completely bias, because i took RNG 60+ also, and I dont like to hold back. Those out there who know exactly what i''m talking about know that when we PT with NIN tanks, they dont tank, we do. I've PTed with the best of them and found that the only alternative to tanking is death or holding back.

Granted there are PLDs who've had their trouble holding hate, and I admit after many lvls of being abused by my fellow RNG I mostly do it because it was done to me. But I think your right on the money. i try my best to avoid blink tank parties for the fact that its never as fast as a straight forward party. Ant i'mnot comparing a bad blink party with an excellent PLD party, i'm trying to be fair not bias but believe what you want.

I dont want NIN to stop tanking though for the fact that every other job has competition so to speak. DD has by far the worst end of this, but it would be unfair for any one job to be completely supirior in their place in a party. Also consider the fact that tanks are almost always the seccond hardest job a PT has to find when forming, first would be RDM/BRD and third would obviously be healers.

Everything in this game works off a balance, and i think they saw that 60- end game, PLD have a signifigantly harder time getting groups versus NIN tanks, and theyre just trying to make it a little more fair.

Yeah a nin tank isnt that great with a WHM.
As a RDM main healer I'll take a nin over a pld anyday. Nin's have their uses, and about ballista... Rngs will still pick of whms at a large distance. You're assuming that means they have to be close.

They`re not adding the rare/ex flag to the items already in game, just making the same mobs [atleast someone said on here] drop a rare/ex version, correct? So if I have a Emp. Hairpin, and kill Valkurm Emporer, it should drop a rare/ex version of the Emp. Hairpin. But... where do you get the non-rare/ex version now? The same NM? This is the only thing I don`t understand/see about the update...

Other than that I`m thrilled with everything, i just don`t understand that one part.

Hmm... I'm thinking it might be from ENMs for the non-rare/ex ones... I can' tbe posotive, though.

I just wish they would've made OKotes and brown belt (it's not a drop, I know, but I think it should be rare/ex anyway) rare/ex, or at least /ex.

In the past items have been moved to BCNM, so that is my guess. This helps to limit gilsellers as they require orbs to get in. But the information is not clear at this time.

Archer Ring, Leaping Boots, Emperor Hairpin, Peacock Charm
In addition, players may receive an EX/Rare or EX item with the same attributes from the monsters who previously dropped each of the above items.

-The NPC may not be called during NPC escort quests, but may be used along with beastmasters' pets, summoners' avatars, and dragoons' wyverns.

lol. I hear that.

Let's hope SE doesn't give us another kick to the ribs by saying "NPC may not be summoned by a Dragoon whom already has his Wyvern summoned.

"...but MAY be used along..."

This leads me to believe you can use both your wyvern and NPC.

Lol I'd say whm/smner cause you dont wanna see your buddy nuking, but then again you dont wanna be fighting with an avatar either.

I'd go whm/rdm the worst he could do on his own is throw out an enfeeb and that couldn't hurt.
new boots

Excellent changes!

Brilliant update @_@ So much is changing!

I'm paticularly excited at the prospect of having an NPC follow me around and battle along side me. Even if it's just a novelty idea, it's seems like a clever and inventive way to keep the game's battles fun. ^^

Also, the NPCs that give out time-restriction as well as level restriction and schedualing info is a wise move on SE's part. I can't wait to get back in and see the changes in action!

Update

Got my first astral ring last night after finally getting bst to 20 (its alot harder than I thought it would be) I hope its price doesn't drop dramatically or nething. Any fluxuations in item prices could destroy the economy on some realms.

I'm sure they've thought of this and have probably done something (to the 4 listed items above) along the lines of a BCNM or another quest that must be earned.

This first step towards eliminating gilsellers may seem small as some say "they will find new NMs to camp" but I really think they will be watching and waiting for more campers. Accounts have been deleted for the use of Malicious Software (i.e. bots) and I'm hoping they will continue this strategy to keep the game fun for everyone.

Who knows, maybe all the gilsellers will go back to Diablo 2 where they belong ^^

Neways, was just my 3 cents.
