One thing i've been doing for the past half an hour while waiting for the update is listening to the sample song for the new update.
Wonder how can I unlock this song in the game.

I am going to Guess that the song is gonna be played during the last cutscene/animations after defeating the last boss in CoP . Of course this is a guess , but would make sense .

Well, the only reason why maintenance irritates the hell outta me is that I already have very limited time to play, and I always seem to be here for maintenance... thanks again, SE!

btw... if maintenance frees up that much time in your life, you must have more free time than you think. Just stop wasting it all online.

Last October I had to stop playing FFXI. Didn't start back again until the end of March this year. The reason was because I temporarily moved to another country and my PS2 wouldn't work over there. Didn't have a laptop either. Since I've been back, I've had all types of interruptions. Work, rehearsals, girls, drinking, dancing, vacationing, etc. For the last month, I've been able to play more regularly, which is every waking moment that I'm not working, eating, sleeping, or smoking. Then along comes an update. It's kinda weird to have so much uninterrupted time to do other things now. Updates give me the chance to relax as I have that smoke, to go get those chicken wings instead of eating the last of whatever is edible in the refridgerator, time to devote all of my attention to that movie or girlfriend.

I watched two great movies today found a bunch of interesting stuff on the internet and now I'm gonna go get some Twizzlers and bbq-chicken. After that I'm gonna sleep for a few hours. Next thing I know it will be 2am PDT and I'll be the first one in, relaxed, well fed, and entertained.

Haha. I still have two suitcases to organize and clean out! On my fourth movie now. Didn't find that bbq chicken though. I work for myself and wasn't lucky enough to have a job today. Plus my girlfriend lives in Germany so no quality time with her either. Luckily I am in the middle of a good book and have all these American films to catch up on. I think it's funny that people go crazy when update time rolls around. XD

thought I would post some helpful tips for everyone.

When the update is finally ready,
please please please check disconnect when done... it just makes it so that when you get done downloading the files, you aren't taking a queue spot. That way someone else can get on and download the files while your computer is installing them.

Hitting retry will not get you in any faster than waiting 2 minutes will. Honestly, it won't. Stop pushing it. STOPPP!!!!

OK guys...and chicks...here is what I did with my time away from FFXI which really doesn't kill me as it does some of you.

1. I laid some pipe so the wife is happy^^
2. I watched the Hall of Fame game, and Da Bears don't look that bad. Although I'm a Lions fan.
3. Made some of those chicken wings, thanks to the good recipe posted here.
4. Took a shower, which I know some of you have not done since the last update.
5. Cut two acres of grass, which is not cool.
6. Last I took a long nap.

Look I realize maint. sux, however maybe you'll be the first one on you're server, if you're contiunally trying to log on (and I know some of you desperate fiends are), and you'll be the first to kill an NM and make some gils so you stop wearing lvl 15 armor at lvl 50 on the Gilgamesh server. Now go to bed and set your alarm for 2:00 so you can get your fix.

correct em if i;m wrong but wouldnt it be ALOT easier just to pack the files and upload via torrent or hell even do it how they ar doing now but with one big file instead of a million small ones that you have to reconnect to the server after each downlaoded file (when it pauses for a sec after download) i mean comon... it would make things SOOO much quicker...

There use to be updates avaliable via Bit Torrent but due to some legal/security issues SE had them removed.

your cuttings can still wither and die if they are not checked atleast once ever 24 to 36 hours , they just produce saplings if they are not fed . However you can lengthen this time it takes to wither by putting items in your mog house that are earth based and give "Moghamcement: Gardening" . Also Cutting and Saplings take longer to mature and produce and inheritly take longer to wither then say Vegetable and Grain seeds that grow rapidly and mature quickly .

i dont mind maintenence. gave me a chance to go otu and spend the whoel day with my g/f. she pissed me off near the end of the ngiht so i just ended up ignoring herfor 45 mins before i left.

You know to be honest people.. I don't think the update should be too bad... Last one was all software..making POL look and act cooler...this one is as i said, Server machine upgrade...Mostly hardware..Maybe im right/mabey not O.o Still Wanna hear about what new Avatars/jobs they should look into!!

Oh yeah real life ain't all that bad! But i do miss hacking things to death with a sword...Wait i got one on my wall.........J/K....**Disclaimer** Kids don't try this!! By reading this you waive the right to sue me if you attempt to hack people to death with a novalty sword!!

Look people...read the maintenance bulletin! They are updating the server MACHINES! the pysical device. This is a good thing. Yes it sucks, But think about it. They are making the machnes better. The software is nothing without the computer running it. Better machine = potential better game. They can only upgrade the game so much before it stresses the server. I am on Sylph server and i haven't seen any less then 2000 players on at any time. Think of the information being processed at any moment! they needed this upgrade. Now they can work on making the game better. New jobs would rock! I would love to see a Blue Mage! Remember them? Also I would love to see more Avatars! Not to get off the subject, But what Avatar would yo wanna see added? I want to see Pheniox! That would rock for a party! Any Others? What kinda Attacks/abilities would they have?? Seriously folks stop complaining and tell me what you wanna see!

with the ranger job nerfed....i would really like to see bind bolts. ^^ It would help rangers solo again by keeping the mob at a distance so we can get the dmg we need. Also, i wouldnt mind seeing an outpost go up near the safehold. After all it is its own area that nations claim every week.

First off... SE likes to make the game more group/party oriented... why on earth would they add said "bind bolts" to help rangers solo better? And why do people seem to feel that Rangers (ranged damage dealers...) deserve the right to be able to solo. Thats like me asking for them to lower binds recast timer to 3 minutes(and thats still underpowered compared to "bind bolts" that are able to be spammed as needed). I'm meant to deal lots of dmg, but with limitations.. as in.. I need mp to do that dmg once my mp is out... im done. And also if im directly gettin beat on i cant cast due to interruption... gearing me for party play where someone else (the tank) can take the hits so i can cast with no interruption. I mean pre ranger fix i used to wonder why a job that was meant to deal dmg like me (blm) but as melee that ALREADY had the bonus of not needing to use MP to do the dmg, should be able to solo DC-EM when if i attempted DC-EM one mistake would cost me (IE: not landing that sleep, or running outta mp) Dont get me wrong please... i'm not complaining or flaming, i just dont understand why most the people frustration about the ranger *fix* ,and i use that term loosely, is because they cant solo as effectively if at all anymore. In my eyes it pretty much balanced it and made it so that trying to solo presented challenges on par to the challenges a BLM faces with the reduced dmg from the mob moving around. Of course since im saying all this it is soley my opionion and im not trying to knock anyone elses opinion just trying to figure out where this mentality of rangers deserving the right to solo anything worth a damn comes into play.

PS: I realize this is the update topic and not ranger forum but i saw the post and had to ask since i know this was a recent addition.

I aggree 100% . I love RNG and I am learning to deal with the decreased DMG but not being able to solo effectively is really pissing me off . Mobs I once solod easily are now killing me and its mainley because its taking to long to kill . If they made "Bind Bolts" , we could atleast get away from the mob long enough to deal some decent DMG and prevent from getting hit with our weak sauce defense .

I don't get why you all complain about the maintenance. To be honest it should give you the oppertunity to experience Real Life. I know that it sux that it takes so long but hey, we are all going through this. Also, it's worse for updates over here in the UK coz we can't properly download until both the US and JP have mostly completed... which is atleast 24-48hours after the initial event. I don't worry about this tho. I jus get on with my life and go out for a drink or sumthin.
There is a message that you should read before next signing in to FFXI and it is along the lines of "Don't let your Real Life suffer due to gamplay"Pay attention to it and live on... best way really

If they plan to have this game down for as long as they are why not make some GOOD changes. How about making the auto translation better.. Add more words, and or make it automatic.. so that all you have to do is type it in and send instead of spending more time trying to find the right phrases lol... Or even raise the levels to 80 or more. I have heared of mobs at lvl 90 whipeing out allieances of 75's Of even this.. why not make more items stack. I would like to be able to finnish a quest like getting fame without haveing to get a mule lol. I meen Cornets, yagudo necklaces, and the such.. Also it would be nice to have stacks or 12 pineapple juices or potions.. shure i hear from people that oh a white mage will be out of a job.. lol well tell that to the people tyring to solo laying dead and having to hp cause no one was there to raise or heal them lol. Or for when they run out of magic in a BCNM and the like battle. LOL. And how about a little more gill LOL.. with the gill sellers out there causeing the prices to go up its hard enough to buy the stuff we need.. and i may get flamed for this.. but like everyone else i am just speeking my mind.. and as for gill sellers.. nothing wrong with making money.. just dont scr everyone else over.. lol and it comes to mind that SE says they are not affilieated with the site that sells gill but yet peopel are still doing it? lol any way.. lets see some GOOD changes if the games going to be down THIS long.

Some how a lava lamp doesnt seem to be as amusing as FFXI. the maintenance sux, but the only real problem i have with it is when its done. it take like a miracle or an act of congress to actually be able to connect let alone stay connected throughout the whole update process. last major update like this took me 8 hours cuz for 1. i was on dial up (on dsl now) and 2 every 3 minutes i would get booted and have to start all over with the process. i just hope now i have DSL the whole thing will be smoother. (altho it kept booting me when i had cable) CAITSITH RULES!!!

To all the people complaining about a day off FFXI: Here's an idea, go play another FF. this is Final Fantasy 11 that is down, there are more than 10 other final fantasies you can play. And when one thinks about it, if you got on now, there would be no one else, just you and the NPc's and Altana knows how many moogles...

Dude, I made some bad *** boneless chicken wings with Frank's Red Hot Sauce. Marinate that sh$t in a ziplock bag of Frank's for 30 minutes in fridge. (must rinse chicken first). Then slap it on the Foreman grill for like 5-7 minutes. Perfection. :)
