Upon further reading of the Final Fantasy XI information page, it is explained that there will be one of four crystals sent to your Mog House. Those crystals are:

Inferno
Cyclone
Aurora
Terra

Also listed in the information is the story surrounding the event, a list of possible romantic locations, and a list of low level synths (Such as Copper Ring, Gloves, Cape, etc.)

Wouldn't it be a lot easier to help synthesis if everything wasn't so expensive for it? I realize there has to be some cost gradient... but 6K for a stack of beehive chips? OUCH!

My first impression, since this is a valentine's day event, was that these crystals would go hand in hand with the Castor Ring quest (http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html?fquest=379) but I believe those require a wind based crystal to engrave... Perhaps it will let you somehow choose which element it will function as?

Based on this, and the posted Alchemy update, it sounds like they are trying to promote Synthesis. And well, whens the last time you bought something signed? I have about 4-5 more lvls and I will be able craft a Hawker's knife, which I swore would be my first signed item... This means I will have to buy the ingredients for a second hawkers just to sell^^. YAY CRAFTING!!!

P.S. Anyone here when the update to aclhemy will occur and what any of the new crafts might be?

A question I actually have is... what if you don't have any craft skill? I would assume that these crystals are exactly like the GP ones, which is kinda pointless since with the skill to craft anything worthwhile can generally get GP. If They can be used for -any- element one would worry about the synthesis that use the same formula but different crystals (desynth of Tonberry Lanterns for example).


If they can be use for any skill of any level by anyone, Things would be a bit unbalancing.

I have yet to get the crystal yet but I'm assuiming it's going to be the same thing as the crystals obtained via GP.

For anyone who doesn't know you can accumalte GP once you reach LV28 in a craft and expend GP to obtain special crystals to sign your name on an item you make. The crystals are EX and they are:

Terra Crystal
Inferno Crystal
Plasma Crystal
Aurora Crystal
Twilight Crystal
Cyclone Crystal
Torrent Crystal
Glacier Crystal

Possibly the crystal you receive is combined with all elements so you can make any item provided you have the correct materials but some synths require the same materials as others but just with different crystals. I'll post back when I get my crystal.

Hmm, the question is, will it be tradeable? Will it be a crystal that can be used with any synth? I'll prolly never use it anyway, since I've a contract with a guild, and it'll get to sit next to my good old Fortune Egg, Lord's Yukata, Teleportation Glyph, the Trick & Treat Staves, and of course, The Santa hat. Can anyone else find themselves unable to toss those things? Imma have to do mog safe upgrades soon just to hold all this specialk event stuff!
