FINAL FANTASY XI Update (Jul. 19)

Wow, this thing is huge. [Event-Related] *A new chapter has been added to "Chains of Promathia." *A new quest called "The Fellowship Quest" has been added. Upon completion of this quest, the player will receive an item used to call an NPC. -The NPC may not be called during NPC escort quests, but may be used along with beastmasters' pets, summoners' avatars, and dragoons' wyverns. -The NPC may only be called in certain field areas. -The NPC may fight monsters, gain experience, and level up with the player. -A player fighting with an NPC fellow will receive only 70% of the usual experience points gained for solo battles. -The NPC may be called only when there are less than six members in the player's group. A party may contain a maximum of three NPC fellows, along with the three players who have called them. -If the NPC's level exceeds that of the player, its status will be adjusted to match the player's level. -The NPC's equipment will occasionally change after fighting several battles. -The NPC will leave if the player: -temporarily logs out to PlayOnline -logs out -enters a different area -is KO'd -All NPCs in a party will leave if the party attempts to increase its total number of players and NPCs to seven. *Several new quests have been added, including: -A quest in which the player may acquire headgear that resembles various beastmen -Rematches with mammets and the Mithran sin hunters And more! *An NPC that tells the player's fortune regarding titles and other "elements" has been added in Mhaura. *Character title selection has been changed in the following ways: -It now costs less gil to change a player's title. Also, it now costs no gil at all to check the player's list of available titles. -The NPC bard that changes player titles will now sing out the player's title just before changing it. -After changing the player's title, the NPC bard will sing out the new title. Nearby PCs will also be able to hear the new title. -The player will now have the option to have a random title selected for him or her at no cost once each day (Earth time). -Titles earned by defeating NMs are now available for selection not just at Selbina and Mhaura, but also at Kazham and Rabao. *A chocobo riding game has been added. The player must deliver a chocobo from the chocobo stables where the quest was offered to a designated nation. *Players are now able to talk to an NPC and check the remaining time until they are able to reenter the battlefield for the ENM quests "Pulling the Strings" and "Automaton Assault." *"Return Ring" and "Homing Ring" have been added to the list of items that may be earned by exchanging conquest points. *If a player has completed the quests to get a pair of Mannequin Pumps or a Minstrel's Dagger but disposed of the item he earned, the player may now reacquire the item at the same place he attained it. *Mythril Plate Armor has been added to the list of equipment that may be stored as a key item. *A new NPC that will trade items for treasure earned by defeating Lumorian monsters has been added. [Battle-Related] *Players are now able to earn experience from monsters of a wider level range than previously possible. Experience points earned by defeating "decent challenge" and "easy prey" monsters will also increase in some instances. *Experience chain bonuses in level-restricted areas of Chains of Promathia are now determined by the level of the player while in that area, rather than the player's actual level. *Monster locations have been adjusted, particularly in Chains of Promathia areas. The following areas will be affected: Bibiki Bay, Uleguerand Range, Attohwa Chasm, Newton Movalpolos, Promyvion – Holla, Promyvion – Dem, Promyvion – Mea, Promyvion – Vahzl, Lufaise Meadows, Phomiuna Aqueducts, the Sacrarium, Riverne – Site #A01, Riverne – Site #B01, the Garden of Ru'Hmet, Ro'Maeve, the Boyahda Tree, the Den of Rancor, the Shrine of Ru'Avitau, Kuftal Tunnel *The damage and accuracy of a player's ranged attack are now calculated based on the distance of the player from the monster. This determination varies from weapon to weapon, as does the ideal distance for maximum damage. In addition, the higher the monster's level is with regard to the player, the less damage will be dealt with a ranged attack. *The player's enmity now decreases when a shadow image created by Utsusemi is absorbed by an attack. *Weather will no longer have an effect on the distance a player can be detected for monsters that detect based on the use of magic. *Several new notorious monsters have been added. *Creatures summoned by monsters (excluding elementals) have had their names changed to "(Monster's name)'s Avatar" for consistency. *The strength of monster techniques has been adjusted, particularly in Chains of Promathia areas. *A player who is KO'd, revived, then while still in a weakened state KO'd again will now, after a second reviving, temporarily experience a weakened attack and accuracy loss for magic and ranged attacks. *Before the update, a player who fought a monster without using auto-attack would retain his claim on the monster, even if he was KO'd in battle due to poison, etc. This has been fixed so that when the player dies, the monster becomes unclaimed. *Before the update, a monster that was claimed by a party or alliance would occasionally go unclaimed when magic or a weapon skill was used on the monster as the monster moved out of range before the magic or weapon skill could strike. [Item-Related] *Trading a wijnruit and 99 ninja tools to a certain NPC can now earn the player a toolbag. This item may be gathered in stacks of twelve, essentially increasing the player's ninja tool inventory capacity twelvefold. *New synthesis recipes have been added. *Prices at guilds have been changed to reflect the amount of each item the guild currently has in stock. The cost may rise to a maximum of five times the original price. *Some of the treasure items earned from notorious monsters in the Boyahda Tree have been changed. *The way that the following items are acquired has been changed: Archer Ring, Leaping Boots, Emperor Hairpin, Peacock Charm In addition, players may receive an EX/Rare or EX item with the same attributes from the monsters who previously dropped each of the above items. *The effects of the following items have been altered: Poison Potion, Venom Potion, Paralyze Potion, Sleeping Potion, Silencing Potion, Blinding Potion, Vitriol, Instant Warp, Bastok Mines gate glyph, Bastok Markets gate glyph, Port Bastok gate glyph, Eastern San d'Oria gate glyph, Western San d'Oria gate glyph, Northern San d'Oria gate glyph, Windurst Waters gate glyph, Port Windurst gate glyph, Windurst Woods gate glyph, New Year's gift, Cantarella, Black Drop, Muting Potion, Invitriol, Warp Cudgel, Trick Staff II, Treat Staff II, Teleport ring: Holla, Teleport ring: Dem, Teleport ring: Mea, Teleport ring: Vahzl, Teleport ring: Yhoat, Teleport ring: Altep, Memento Muffler, Gargoyle Boots, Zoolater Hat, Root Sabots, Aries Mantle, Anubis's Knife, Oscar Scarf, Kinkobo, Carpenter's Belt, Blacksmith's Belt, Goldsmith's Belt, Weaver's Belt, Tanner's Belt, Boneworker's Belt, Alchemist's Belt, Culinarian's Belt, Fisherman's Belt, Counter Earring, Tactical Ring, Wing Gorget, Healing Feather, Spirit Lantern, Astral Pot, Homing Ring, Return Ring, Absorbing Shield, Tavnazian Ring, Ducal Guard's Ring, Maat's Cap, Kingdom Stables Collar, Republic Stables Medal, Federation Stables Scarf, Cursed Beverage, Cursed Soup *The item "Timepiece" has been added to the list of special items a player may receive 100 days after participating in the Vana'diel Adventurer Recruitment Program. *The following item names have been changed in the English version: Panzer Mask -> Panther Mask Panzer Mask +1 -> Panther Mask +1 Amemit Mantle -> Amemet Mantle Amemit Mantle +1 -> Amemet Mantle +1 *The item name "Comet" has been changed to "Little Comet." *An attribute of the following item has been changed: Darksteel Pick +1 Delay:312 -> Delay:303 [System-Related] *Region Info may now be viewed from all areas. *Messages may no longer be sent using /tell to a player on the user's blacklist. *Along with the introduction of the Fellowship Quest, players may now combine text commands with to target their NPC fellows and execute their desired actions. Also, if a player enters during a match, both forces will receive a message notifying them of the new entry. The player must have the following in order to enter a match already underway: -A Ballista License -Enough gil to enter the match -The minimum level required for the match being played -A player who has just entered an official match or a match in Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba that was already underway will temporarily be placed under "Preparing for Battle" status. -Players may now borrow the key items "Ballista Earring" and "Ballista Band" free of charge from the Pursuivant in Ru'Lude Gardens. Ballista Earring: When in possession of this item, the player will receive information about the next Ballista match and the entry registration time when entering San d'Oria, Bastok, Windurst, or Jeuno from one day prior to the match (Vana'diel time) until the end of the entry period. Ballista Band: When in possession of this item, the player will be given the choice of whether to keep or throw away the first Petra he quarries. Ownership of a Ballista License is not required to borrow the above items. The player may return the items simply by speaking to a Pursuivant. -Players are no longer able to adjust Petra selection settings in Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba. The player will be given the option of what to do with the first Petra quarried only when in possession of the new key item "Ballista Band." -The following rules have been changed from special rules to standard rules. -Camp locations will change when the number of participants in a match is 40 or less. -The number of Rooks will be reduced to two when there is a significant difference in the number of players on each side. -Players will now receive experience points for participating in an official match. -The system of "Open Entry" for official matches, in which all adventurers were allowed to join the force with the smallest number of participants, has been done away with and replaced by a system called "Temporary Entry," in which players may join a force regardless of allegiance. However, the player's entry is temporary, and similar to Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba's "Auto-Balance" feature, the players may be redistributed for balance when the match begins. -In Ru'Lude Gardens, the player will be able to view Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba's reservation status. Reservations for the next two days (Earth time) will be shown. -The NPC Tillecoe will now inform the player of the match's level restriction when a match at Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba is set to allow general participation. -Temporary items will now be distributed at the start of official matches held at the Pashhow Marshlands. -A section of the Ballista rulebook that is read out by the Pursuivant has been changed. -The rate of success for Foe Lullaby and Horde Lullaby has been lowered for players with bard as a support job. -A limit has been imposed on the amount of HP that can be absorbed by Bloody Bolts' HP Drain effect during Ballista.

Of PLDs and NINs
# Jul 19 2005 at 12:05 AM Rating: Decent
Honestly, I'll get right into the arguement of whichever is the best tank. Sure, some of you say that everyone can be a tank, but, if I remember right, Nin's can't Flash or Heal, so, skill or not, they aren't built for it. And Pld isn't a breeze either. If anything, all of you Ninjas should be beyond happy that you can finally choose a more flexible sub since this will take the pressure of tanking from your shoulders. You can finally sub Rng and finally be the greatest pullers ( and, let's be honest, Nins -rock- when it comes to pulling ), or sub Rdm and completely debuff an enemy before it reaches your party's camp.

So, whine all you want about which is better, really. Cold hard facts are that Pallys are built far better for tanking. Period. Nins are built to be flexible, stealthy assassins. Last time I checked, assassins don't face their enemies head on. About time Square finally begins to make Nin more fun. In my opinion, I'm glad I won't be expected to tank anymore on my Nin. Now if Square would just get off their asses and give Pallys Provoke. XDDD

i have to agree with this guy. im a 65 whm, and when i start up parites i never choose nin. from what i understand and seen there not great DD. pld is the best tank in the game and can hold the most hate. im really glad to see this update in affect, because this will cripple those parties that hunt those 24hr pops with a nin kiting it around the place. i kid you not, there was a nin kiting Amikiri for over an hour. GM said he was breaking the rules because they were making damage, but it wasnt much. i like ninja's dont get me wrong, but i really dont like them as tanks at higher lvls. there good for lvl 30 and below.

I know a guy who just started lvling nin right before the update and he is a pally. He loves his pally and agrees no one holds hate better. He started the nin b/c he is happy for the reasons Cross mentioned, that he will get to be stealthy, nuke, debuff, and deal solid constant damage as a nin. No longer will nins be just tanks they will get to be more. I don't see this update as a total nerf but more of an expander of the ninja job. Nins being told to tank is like Summoners getting told to be mainhealer in absence of whm. And seriously to all of you pro nin main tank people, just ask SE who they designed as a tank...Pallys are pure tanks they have no other purpose, if nins were "pure" or "best" tanks as they claim why do they not have /jas or abilities to back that. A pally w/o warrior subbed can still be main tank, can a nin say the same. I am just excited to see Ninjas be what the open minded posters are saying they can be.

i say that a pally w/o warrior subbed can NOT tank cause they do not have provoke(a HUGE hate making ja)! i do agree that nin w/o war sub could not tank but neither can nin!!

NIN nerf RNG buff
# Jul 19 2005 at 12:02 AM Rating: Decent
Everyone keeps complaining about the nerfing of RNG, and NIN, but has anyone noticed that by nerfing NIN they are actually giving an awesome + to RNG's? If hate is lowered everytime a shadow is absorbed, does that not mean less RNG death in PT's? On my RNG the only thing that keeps me from spamming RA so much is the fact that once i get hate its usually too much for 3 shadows to cover, and if recast is up 6... However if your casting spells, once again your not doing damage. So by reducing hate with the absorption of shadows they are giving RNG a much larger positive change than the negative of the distance nerf....

Just my 2 cents.

PLD vs. NIN: Down time and Utsusemi hate loss
# Jul 18 2005 at 11:58 PM Rating: Default
Firstly, I am a lvl 50 PLD and have been in plenty of parties where had pretty much no down time. Secondly, I may be wrong, but I think that the hate loss on Utsusemi might just mean that with one shadow, hate goes down a little, next, hate goes down more, then last shadow, hate passes to someone else so that you can recast then get the hate back and start the process over. This is likely untrue, and it is more likely to be that it's going to make it harder for the NIN to tank, but it is possible that what I mentioned is true, and in that case, it would just make the NIN's tanking ability better. Just a thought.

INSANITY, 2 diffent tanking styles. NIN's do not get chosen over me and never have all the way to 75. In 2 rooms camp at the shrine on Deco' weapons I have chained for 3 hrs straight no downtime cept to go from room to room. There is no NIN on any server let alone mines that can grab and hold hate faster and tighter than a skilled PLD. I mean between sentinel, rampart, defender, shield bash, cures and flash you gotta be an idiot not to hold hate better than a NIN. way too many tools to compare the 2. Pleease research before you post. Even Pre-update the role as PLD for main tank has NEVER been in jeapordy. Now I am not hating on NIN's for I'd like to believe in my LS there are 3 of the greatest NIN's on my server and they ARE certain things you simply should use a NIN tank for to make it easier ie. Hakutaku and Faf but even then NIN's really need to bouncer hate between another /nin like rng/nin or war/nin.

rng is getting +s and -s. {All Right!} rng losses hate when they have shadows absorbed. {Um...} {All Right!} rangers deal less dmg which = less hate which= no need for utsusemi lossing hate {unless u barrage to sidewinder which i do alot) i hope by less dmg they mean like 500 less dmg, not 100 dmg slug shots and 20 dmg ranged :(

I am going to finish the Fellowship Quest as soon as I can find out how, lol

Too bad about them cutting the typical 30% from your XP that Beastmaster's have always had taken. Oh well, it would be fun to XP with an NPC and a Charmed pet that I release.

Despite the 30% XP hit, if the NPC can be healed with regular white magic and does enough damage, it will speed the process of XPing and allow for more chains, negating that cut.

I also wonder about the NPCs equips. I assume they will all be WARs, but I wanna know about their weapons... Will they all use a Scythe, Sword, Axe, Polearm, etc.? Or can you personally decide what they use?

And what about that all important question of SATA, which Beastmaster's can't do off their pets at the moment. Will THFs be given a little something special to play with? ^^

Well, whatever, all these questions will be answered later on, but I just wanted to put my thoughts out there.

I am interested in this too, since my Thf spends a lot of time seeking. I wanted to try out Beastmaster. I read on Playonline.com the NPC levels and gear changes automatically according to its lvl. I personally am not going to infer too much about that, like i am not sure if he/she gets best gear for their lvl like if they use Leeping boots or just plain boots...

yo know i did pal and sub nin for a while and it work out ok but i lost my double att alone with other job abs all im saying is NIN was never ment to tank there just fixing that now. if a pally want to out to a nin he can by sub... nin Easy as that. but whatever we'll see what happens when we log and start partying :) ^^

I don't see why all of you are hating on ninjas now. So what if a paladin has a little competition in the tank department. I would personally prefer a paladin to a ninja any day, but I have to still level ninja for sub so I know this will hurt when I go to level again. Might cause me to turn to samurai for subjob post-60, but who knows.

I feel your pain on this one, i am thf by trade and sub ninja just for the dual wield. I don't use Blink b/c unlike some pullers i barely take dmg on pulls and if i do Whm have no fear, that is what bloodies are for. I lvled my nin to lvl 30 before the update just b/c i knew it would be hard for nin at lvls 0 to 30 since no thf to use SATA. Also unlike higher lvl nins who have their Ni spells to help them keep hate we don't. Also i have had some really good nin tanks, but i am partial to pallys, i feel they just hold the hate so well. Kinda odd how Pallys are prefered to nins for god battles o.O

ok here is my rant for today.. its all about nin baby. being a 55nin is hard work, and it pisses me off to see a lot of nin just spamming utsusemi. they dont keep hate all that effective. granted it cost a lot of money to lvl nin if you are a good nin, hell i was spending 200k+ per lvl from 50-55. im on odin server and most ppl just spam utsusemi i think this update will be a big drag for those ppl. either they will have to learn how to be a good nin or we probably wont see to many nin on odin server anymore.
heh stupid snipers...
# Jul 18 2005 at 11:34 PM Rating: Decent
What's nice is that I'm a ranger and have basically no need for snipers rings.
Lets compare:
Snipers- +5 rng acc, +5 acc, -10 def
at 40 I'll be using a Horn ring +1 and a marksmans ring. +5 racc on the horn, +6 on the marks

at 45 I get carapce, i may or may not keep my marks
+6 on each carapace.
So although this proves absolutely nothing...I still can be content in knowing that although snipers prices may rise....I won't care ^^

Way to go SE! I think its wonderfully what they did with the whole drop thing. Think of it, you have Leaping Boots not dropped off of leaping liz, so instead its a rar/ex. So instead of a NM camped like crazy you have it camped once per person. I think having 50 people over and over again camp a NM (just a figure) and use the drop to sell and camp again makes the NM not fun to camp anymore for others. But still the normal frops will be on another NM or somehting, so that'll be the new over-camped NM's.

~You just found Leaping Boots off Leaping Rarabi~

Hopefully, they'll be doing what they did previously with the Astral Rings, and place these drops in a BCNM (or maybe an ENM). The update did say that there were new battles being introduced, so the familiar items could very well be the rewards for those. On the other hand, maybe they'll be quested, so that anyone will have a chance to get them, but only once (like Utsusemi). Either way, I think the change is a good one, and I'd like to see SE do this with more items.
I can't wait

NIN Vs. PLD BS!
# Jul 18 2005 at 11:25 PM Rating: Decent
I'm so sick of this pld vs. nin BS. My first main was pld and my best friends is nin so I'm not be bias on this (also my nin is 55) but anyone can be a pld voke flash heal, no skill involved in that. Nin on the other hand is all skill.

As we all know there are alot of bad tank's out there pld or nin if you suck you suck. So in some ways this update is a good thing hopefully it will weed out all the unskilled nin's and leave the tanking to the people that know wtf they're doing.

Being pld never let me see how many bad tanks are out there, Since I left pld for thf I've gotten to pt with alot of different tanks and just a word of advice to some of you out there, If you're losing hate more then 2-3 times in an exp pt (unless you have a hyper active blm spammin ga spells) then u may wanna look into another job.

also one last thought all you over zealous plds a nin pt will own a pld pt anyday myself I rarely pt with plds anymore except on gods so this update isnt really going to make people stop lvlin nin as a tank but to make the skilled nin shine a little brighter.
Rare/Ex or just plain Ex

I am sooooooooo happy about this new thing regarding the lizzy boots and the emp pin. I spent three days in a row camping lizzy only to have it snatched out from under me numerous times or to just plain kill it and see Eiy acquired "Lizard Tail." I am a lvl 47 thf/nin on the Titan server and our boots go for 1 million in the AH. Our emp pin, which i am going to go after, after i get boots, go for 1 million+. I am glad SE is putting this in check. You want one to sell go hunt something else or put your life on the line in high lvl BCNM, don't camp stuff like this a ruin it for people who just want to wear the best piece of gear in its class. I don't mind paying a 150K for some earrings or something like that, but jeez 1 Million gil. I don't earn gil very fast, so getting stuck wearing some lesser gear b/c i can't afford these two pieces b/c some guy out there is using this game as his Real Life full time job makes this game gimped for everyone. I mean if every adventurer was able to get these items pts would benefit, wouldn't you want a thf who could SATA for more dmg or a dark that missed just a little less b/c he has +6 dex just from the head and feet piece he is wearing? As someone before me pointed out or a friend of mine lives everyday ---> there are other ways to make money, mine, log, or harvest and make some gil that way. I log and make decent gil, not epic enough to cover the costs of two 1 million dollar items, but enough to buy myself bone knives +1 or noct +1 gear. I should end my rant now, but once again everyone benefits from having these items changed so more people can wear em, only people who lose are gil sellers and it serves those punks right. **note; i have more choice words i can use about gilsellers but this is alla and we should keep stuff clean ^_^
