FINAL FANTASY XI Update (Jul. 19)

Wow, this thing is huge. [Event-Related] *A new chapter has been added to "Chains of Promathia." *A new quest called "The Fellowship Quest" has been added. Upon completion of this quest, the player will receive an item used to call an NPC. -The NPC may not be called during NPC escort quests, but may be used along with beastmasters' pets, summoners' avatars, and dragoons' wyverns. -The NPC may only be called in certain field areas. -The NPC may fight monsters, gain experience, and level up with the player. -A player fighting with an NPC fellow will receive only 70% of the usual experience points gained for solo battles. -The NPC may be called only when there are less than six members in the player's group. A party may contain a maximum of three NPC fellows, along with the three players who have called them. -If the NPC's level exceeds that of the player, its status will be adjusted to match the player's level. -The NPC's equipment will occasionally change after fighting several battles. -The NPC will leave if the player: -temporarily logs out to PlayOnline -logs out -enters a different area -is KO'd -All NPCs in a party will leave if the party attempts to increase its total number of players and NPCs to seven. *Several new quests have been added, including: -A quest in which the player may acquire headgear that resembles various beastmen -Rematches with mammets and the Mithran sin hunters And more! *An NPC that tells the player's fortune regarding titles and other "elements" has been added in Mhaura. *Character title selection has been changed in the following ways: -It now costs less gil to change a player's title. Also, it now costs no gil at all to check the player's list of available titles. -The NPC bard that changes player titles will now sing out the player's title just before changing it. -After changing the player's title, the NPC bard will sing out the new title. Nearby PCs will also be able to hear the new title. -The player will now have the option to have a random title selected for him or her at no cost once each day (Earth time). -Titles earned by defeating NMs are now available for selection not just at Selbina and Mhaura, but also at Kazham and Rabao. *A chocobo riding game has been added. The player must deliver a chocobo from the chocobo stables where the quest was offered to a designated nation. *Players are now able to talk to an NPC and check the remaining time until they are able to reenter the battlefield for the ENM quests "Pulling the Strings" and "Automaton Assault." *"Return Ring" and "Homing Ring" have been added to the list of items that may be earned by exchanging conquest points. *If a player has completed the quests to get a pair of Mannequin Pumps or a Minstrel's Dagger but disposed of the item he earned, the player may now reacquire the item at the same place he attained it. *Mythril Plate Armor has been added to the list of equipment that may be stored as a key item. *A new NPC that will trade items for treasure earned by defeating Lumorian monsters has been added. [Battle-Related] *Players are now able to earn experience from monsters of a wider level range than previously possible. Experience points earned by defeating "decent challenge" and "easy prey" monsters will also increase in some instances. *Experience chain bonuses in level-restricted areas of Chains of Promathia are now determined by the level of the player while in that area, rather than the player's actual level. *Monster locations have been adjusted, particularly in Chains of Promathia areas. The following areas will be affected: Bibiki Bay, Uleguerand Range, Attohwa Chasm, Newton Movalpolos, Promyvion – Holla, Promyvion – Dem, Promyvion – Mea, Promyvion – Vahzl, Lufaise Meadows, Phomiuna Aqueducts, the Sacrarium, Riverne – Site #A01, Riverne – Site #B01, the Garden of Ru'Hmet, Ro'Maeve, the Boyahda Tree, the Den of Rancor, the Shrine of Ru'Avitau, Kuftal Tunnel *The damage and accuracy of a player's ranged attack are now calculated based on the distance of the player from the monster. This determination varies from weapon to weapon, as does the ideal distance for maximum damage. In addition, the higher the monster's level is with regard to the player, the less damage will be dealt with a ranged attack. *The player's enmity now decreases when a shadow image created by Utsusemi is absorbed by an attack. *Weather will no longer have an effect on the distance a player can be detected for monsters that detect based on the use of magic. *Several new notorious monsters have been added. *Creatures summoned by monsters (excluding elementals) have had their names changed to "(Monster's name)'s Avatar" for consistency. *The strength of monster techniques has been adjusted, particularly in Chains of Promathia areas. *A player who is KO'd, revived, then while still in a weakened state KO'd again will now, after a second reviving, temporarily experience a weakened attack and accuracy loss for magic and ranged attacks. *Before the update, a player who fought a monster without using auto-attack would retain his claim on the monster, even if he was KO'd in battle due to poison, etc. This has been fixed so that when the player dies, the monster becomes unclaimed. *Before the update, a monster that was claimed by a party or alliance would occasionally go unclaimed when magic or a weapon skill was used on the monster as the monster moved out of range before the magic or weapon skill could strike. [Item-Related] *Trading a wijnruit and 99 ninja tools to a certain NPC can now earn the player a toolbag. This item may be gathered in stacks of twelve, essentially increasing the player's ninja tool inventory capacity twelvefold. *New synthesis recipes have been added. *Prices at guilds have been changed to reflect the amount of each item the guild currently has in stock. The cost may rise to a maximum of five times the original price. *Some of the treasure items earned from notorious monsters in the Boyahda Tree have been changed. *The way that the following items are acquired has been changed: Archer Ring, Leaping Boots, Emperor Hairpin, Peacock Charm In addition, players may receive an EX/Rare or EX item with the same attributes from the monsters who previously dropped each of the above items. *The effects of the following items have been altered: Poison Potion, Venom Potion, Paralyze Potion, Sleeping Potion, Silencing Potion, Blinding Potion, Vitriol, Instant Warp, Bastok Mines gate glyph, Bastok Markets gate glyph, Port Bastok gate glyph, Eastern San d'Oria gate glyph, Western San d'Oria gate glyph, Northern San d'Oria gate glyph, Windurst Waters gate glyph, Port Windurst gate glyph, Windurst Woods gate glyph, New Year's gift, Cantarella, Black Drop, Muting Potion, Invitriol, Warp Cudgel, Trick Staff II, Treat Staff II, Teleport ring: Holla, Teleport ring: Dem, Teleport ring: Mea, Teleport ring: Vahzl, Teleport ring: Yhoat, Teleport ring: Altep, Memento Muffler, Gargoyle Boots, Zoolater Hat, Root Sabots, Aries Mantle, Anubis's Knife, Oscar Scarf, Kinkobo, Carpenter's Belt, Blacksmith's Belt, Goldsmith's Belt, Weaver's Belt, Tanner's Belt, Boneworker's Belt, Alchemist's Belt, Culinarian's Belt, Fisherman's Belt, Counter Earring, Tactical Ring, Wing Gorget, Healing Feather, Spirit Lantern, Astral Pot, Homing Ring, Return Ring, Absorbing Shield, Tavnazian Ring, Ducal Guard's Ring, Maat's Cap, Kingdom Stables Collar, Republic Stables Medal, Federation Stables Scarf, Cursed Beverage, Cursed Soup *The item "Timepiece" has been added to the list of special items a player may receive 100 days after participating in the Vana'diel Adventurer Recruitment Program. *The following item names have been changed in the English version: Panzer Mask -> Panther Mask Panzer Mask +1 -> Panther Mask +1 Amemit Mantle -> Amemet Mantle Amemit Mantle +1 -> Amemet Mantle +1 *The item name "Comet" has been changed to "Little Comet." *An attribute of the following item has been changed: Darksteel Pick +1 Delay:312 -> Delay:303 [System-Related] *Region Info may now be viewed from all areas. *Messages may no longer be sent using /tell to a player on the user's blacklist. *Along with the introduction of the Fellowship Quest, players may now combine text commands with to target their NPC fellows and execute their desired actions. Only the player who called the NPC may target it using . [Other Content] *The following changes have been made to Ballista. -If one side of an official match is low on members, entry into that force is now possible even if a match is already underway. In this case, experience may still be gained if certain conditions are met, just as if the player had entered the match from the start. Also, if a player enters during a match, both forces will receive a message notifying them of the new entry. The player must have the following in order to enter a match already underway: -A Ballista License -Enough gil to enter the match -The minimum level required for the match being played -A player who has just entered an official match or a match in Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba that was already underway will temporarily be placed under "Preparing for Battle" status. -Players may now borrow the key items "Ballista Earring" and "Ballista Band" free of charge from the Pursuivant in Ru'Lude Gardens. Ballista Earring: When in possession of this item, the player will receive information about the next Ballista match and the entry registration time when entering San d'Oria, Bastok, Windurst, or Jeuno from one day prior to the match (Vana'diel time) until the end of the entry period. Ballista Band: When in possession of this item, the player will be given the choice of whether to keep or throw away the first Petra he quarries. Ownership of a Ballista License is not required to borrow the above items. The player may return the items simply by speaking to a Pursuivant. -Players are no longer able to adjust Petra selection settings in Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba. The player will be given the option of what to do with the first Petra quarried only when in possession of the new key item "Ballista Band." -The following rules have been changed from special rules to standard rules. -Camp locations will change when the number of participants in a match is 40 or less. -The number of Rooks will be reduced to two when there is a significant difference in the number of players on each side. -Players will now receive experience points for participating in an official match. -The system of "Open Entry" for official matches, in which all adventurers were allowed to join the force with the smallest number of participants, has been done away with and replaced by a system called "Temporary Entry," in which players may join a force regardless of allegiance. However, the player's entry is temporary, and similar to Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba's "Auto-Balance" feature, the players may be redistributed for balance when the match begins. -In Ru'Lude Gardens, the player will be able to view Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba's reservation status. Reservations for the next two days (Earth time) will be shown. -The NPC Tillecoe will now inform the player of the match's level restriction when a match at Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba is set to allow general participation. -Temporary items will now be distributed at the start of official matches held at the Pashhow Marshlands. -A section of the Ballista rulebook that is read out by the Pursuivant has been changed. -The rate of success for Foe Lullaby and Horde Lullaby has been lowered for players with bard as a support job. -A limit has been imposed on the amount of HP that can be absorbed by Bloody Bolts' HP Drain effect during Ballista.

My interpretation is that you won't be ABLE to buy these items anymore. It looks like at least some of them are going to EX/RARE status.

While this will help tone down the botting gil sellers (in theory), it also makes it difficult for those ppl who camp these things as they're primary source of gil to get what they need.

However, the people who were camping these NM's and selling the drops for "legitimate" reasons are going to quickly find other ways to make gil - it'll just take more time.
RE: cheaper prices

Well thats kinda hard to say. I think they may stabalize and start coming back down, but it may be a while before that happens. With the addition of having the drop possibly being rare/ex or ex, their may not be as many available in the marketplace. In an attempt to foil the gilsellers this could work in our favor quite a bit. They won't be camped as much because the gilsellers will have to find other means. Which means it will be easier for us to get the drop and not have to rely on buying it form the AH as the only means. On the flip side to that coin, it could mean the gilsellers become more aggresive with it, and the prices may go up some since it will be a little more difficult to get the regular drops. Personally, I have no clue what kind of affect this will have. All I do is hope for the best!

I currnetly buy gil and am mad about teh drg nerf

i need a SH but it cost $200 dollars on IGE

if anyone could buy it for me i can give you my Platoon Lance

some nice gilsellers bought me new speakers so i can listen nicely
RE: Why nerf DRG?!?
# Jul 19 2005 at 2:31 AM Rating: Decent
You gil buyers are frelling gay. You have no idea how much you ruin it for us who make gil legitimately, or you do and just dont care. Either way you're gay, stupid, and should be banned for buying gil; same to those who sell it. Why am i flaming? Cuz for my level 50 war, its gunna cost me approx. 800k gil my whm 40 500k gil get the point? Also why is SE also making it so dam hard to obtain gil? Therefore promoting these gay gil buyers/sellers. I have to spend countless hours mining or fishing to make a few thousand gil. It's very frustrating.

That would be kinda cool, and the chocobo mini-game in FF7 was good too, they need stuff like that, chocobo races with other PC's, and other mini-games like card games and other carnival fun-like games where you can win rare stuff.

Still have an hour left, at least, assuming there's no problems.

When I'm trying to make a party, I look for both, and whoever is closer to the level gap I have to stay in, I do kinda like NIN as tank though, I see them go in the yellow a lot less than PLD's, at least the ones I've partied with. When you're a SMN/whm and trying to do you're own thing it's difficult having to constantly heal the PLD, mainly when there's no WHM but a RDM and I sharing the healing or 40/60 sharing. With the NIN's using their tool for blink, I can so what I wanna do with an avatar heal a little if need be, then rest a little, for less down time, etc. I find it harder to do that with PLD as tank.

SE thinks that DRG is perfect the way it is...

but at about lvl 60 drg i see that we have to make our own ptys and we dont get invites to do any missions/HNMs/Dynamis/ect. but omg we are underrated i do the same or more dmg than every DRK ive ptyed with and it suced when the TP was nerfed but other than that DRG/WHM pwns all soloing at 60+ we can solo T and VT mobs w/o much problem at all

come on give this job a shot and maybe bring it into the mainstream. and i dont think SE will update it sry fellow drgs

I fear that players have gotten too locked into the right/wrong and good/bad job syndrome. The whole "if you play X job you have to have Y sub" or "To party there you have to have X, Y and Z, jobs" or "You have to have X and Y jobs to do that mission/quest/whatever" ... I'm living proof that you don't. Too many try to do whats accepted or whats viewed as right because thats what some "High level" told them or something and that leads to a bad mentality about certain jobs. My post a little ways below better explains my feelings on it.
RE: drg
# Jul 19 2005 at 1:30 AM Rating: Decent
I fear those people to, but the problem with doing something like being a drg or making your dark sub nin so you can dual wield axes and use Blink to aviod damage are things other will kinda ignore you for. It would be great if people would send you an invite and take a chance on a different set up, but fact remains who wants to use idk for example again Dark/Nin, if will get more invs as a Dark/Thf or Dark/war. Its the difference between a five hour wait or a 15 min wait. I am with you though Jinaru on picking other combinations and running with it, but most don't feel that way.
RE: drg
# Jul 19 2005 at 1:37 AM Rating: Decent
Thats the only reason I keep all the "normal" subs up to par with my mains. But there is alot that people don't see, the statistics if you will that you can see with something like parser. The DOT[Damage Over Time] and DPS[Damage Per Second] of these other combinations, that in some cases actually out do quite a bit the "normal" combo. But I'm with you 100% about the 5 hr wait vs 15 min wait. Sometimes sacrifices have to be made so that we can "Fit In" and "Go with the grain" and not be ignored and looked at as n00bs or whatever. *Sigh* whats thisaru poorsy-worsy world coming too.

Hooray! Total agreement here. You should play the game how you want. I'm sure we bought the game to enjoy it, not do what others expect us to do. I got a laugh the other day when I was farming outside of windhurst. I was using my level 30 BLM and subbing 15 THF. I got called a noob because I was "gimping" my BLM. I was thinking "I'M not the noob, why would a BLM with -ga spells be subbing a THF with Treasure Hunter 1? Obviously never heard of 'farming'" I didn't have my party flag up, so it was obvious I wasn't looking. So, let them keep thinking that, more items for me lol.

I got it! I just found out how to get our ncp buddys. First we have to talk to a chick in the Act 1 city, then run off and kill the NM "Blood Raven" then when u talk to the chick in town u get your own lil ranger helper!

Okay not really, but this addition seems very Diablo II, but i welcome it anyway. I just hope there more helpful than the D2 ones.

I think that this update will only make tanking more challenging for NIN. I doubt it will eliminate NIN from the tanking scene. For example at LV75 in merrit points parties a well equiped DD style nin needs only provoke and utsusemi as hate making tools if his/her enmity merrits are capped. I dont think that losing a shadow will result in as much hate loss as taking an actual hit and I know for a fact that a well equiped 75 ninja can take multiple hits while still maintaining stable hate vs weapons. Anyway I wouldnt worry about it yet because all that can be said is speculation at this point. And to all those PLD out there, I have nothing against you, so have fun with your PLD vs NIN complex.
RE: :P

/grin Sadly to say but Ninja was never ment to tank in FFXI, and now SE feels that they are ending the reign of the Ninja... BAUGH just grab yourself a good Thief and keep on going.
RE: :P
# Jul 19 2005 at 1:45 AM Rating: Excellent
Like I said this is just speculation, we dont know anything about this yet. It could be countered by simply adding a few more enmity or maybe NIN wont be able to tank anymore, we dont know yet. As for saying NIN wasnt meant to tank, most people know this, but the fact remains that NIN is a pretty useful tank.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 19 2005 at 1:12 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) So what are they saying about certain NM Drops? Peacock charms, leaping boots, emperor hair pins & archer's rings are now rare/ex ??? What about people who owned one before the update? Non rare/ex ones.... does that mean they will swell up 10x in value? Im confused. I am under the assumption these items are now rare/ex ???

Wow the past few posts i have consumed with my eye ballz were terrable lol Ninja are decent tanks, like come on, only Pld's should tank? what does that leave pts with bareing on finding a PLD among JP players, sometimes, and i mean sometimes JP and NA dont work well together :P teh lang barriers eww. Well if you look at RL how you fire a Arrow its so simple, if your standing at close range you wont really inject that sucker in anything, but with wind and time to speed up it will indure that puppy into your terget am i right? luts use the Guns in ffxi now. Luts use counterstrike, or doom, you use a Shotgun oyu need to be close for the thing to blast off good dmg, i mean this crap of rngers standing one inch of the person and blasting off dmg is bull. i understand the guns and crossbows but not bows, come on. Now luts break down what makes a job a job....The person behand it! People always say that Rng are the best dmgers... maybe... if you have the right equipment, and your a fine player, Hence SKILL it requires skill to be good or make the job look good am i correct, i never seen a bad drk with a lvl 1 Chaosbringer coming to a bibki bay pt lol. So the sumply of that to all those foolz thinking its just the job, Its the person behand it, you ant nothing without the brains and reflexes. and the Best for rnger isn't really true, Over all maybe, but.. Ranger is a Ranged Attacker like Rdm, BLM, so forth, for best dmgers for ranged attackers i voke Blm, they are the ones who can nuke you like a hot pocket, and say mmm your burnt sucka, as for a Melee attacker, Drk Sam and drg weapon in most cases, Warrior needs a fair sub to bring outs its true strengths i mean every job isnt as grand as some others, all jobs have weakness that would crimple them easyly, Samurai has decent def and attack, could temp Tank for a moment, but if you sleep a samurai and do something big and nasty his/her life is over no def to that, Drk how ever have a Sight elemental def like a blm would, but there def is so pitful that a few good smacks its lights out forever. The basis on a Warrior is without the right sub your in trouble, the good thing bout warrior 55+ is the inhancements you may boost yourself with, ACC+ Att+ so forth, so that you may stop reading this rancid message, all jobs are great in there own way so stfu thinknig a single job is the best Kthxbi
RE: No brains
# Jul 19 2005 at 1:44 AM Rating: Decent
I'm sorry, but "wind" as you say does not speed up an arrow in flight. Conversely, air resistance slows an arrow down. I doubt you've ever fired a bow at something at short range from the sound of your post. An arrow leaves a bow at its fastest speed, and because the net force goes against the arrow after it leaves the bow, the arrow actually has a negative acceleration. The physics are different for it if it's fired in an arch, but you're talking point blank range.

Whats the point in fighting over whose the better tank of the 2 anyway? SE wont change the update just because you dont agree personally I dont care which I have tanking in the pt, it comes down to the skill of the tanker and what your fighting more then the job. A paladin is usually smoother at hate control though where as a ninja can support less down time for the mages but thats saying both players of that job know what they're doing. I've had pts where mp drained faster with a ninja tank and I've had pts where a ninja has kept hate better then some of the paladins I've seen its more or less about the skill....

If we're talking about what was designed to do what, then I may as well throw this out there.... Did Square Enix even intend for us to party the way that we do? Just something for y'all to think about.

Concerning the way that the difficulty of monsters becomes -totally- blown out of proportion in later levels, where an EP can level you to the ground... I'd have to say "yes." That and SE offically stated that FFXI was intended for dependance of the party system to encourage a sense of community. Check out your instruction manual. ^^

They should fix that guaging system...kinda shady how a ep, dc, or even can put you in your grave as a lvl 47 depending on what you are fighting >.< It should just say nope, you can't fight that and live lol (not really just would be funny to see that when you checked a mob)

Just FYI Y'know? When you pick the check icon, it gives you an explanation of the use at the top of the screen, something like "Estimate of the targets strength". That always got me okay? ESTIMATE. I always thought that SE was throwing in T or VT versions every once in a while to keep life interesting. Also, I think that the rating was based on ATT/DEF and/or STR/VIT because I was leveling BLM and owning T mobs that would kick my WAR butt at the same level. And taking on EP elementals tend to involve a few tense moments because they are tougher than they rate, at least DC.

hehe... a mod to change the check text... that'd be fun!

EP = "KILL IT!"
DC = "KILL IT! But be careful..."
EM = "KILL IT! If there's a mage nearby to cure your sorry butt."
T = "You like pain, don't you?"
IT = "Do you LIKE the taste of dirt?"
Impossible = "You're screwed. Get help."

The way that the following items are acquired has been changed:
Archer Ring, Leaping Boots, Emperor Hairpin, Peacock Charm
In addition, players may receive an EX/Rare or EX item with the same attributes from the monsters who previously dropped each of the above items.

I thought this meant that you can also get a ex/rare item besides the leaping boots, with the same stats as the boots, anyone else think the same way?

I thought the same thing at first, so yes i agreed with you. But upon more careful inspection of the statement, it says players will receive ex/rare item with same stats for the monsters who PREVIOUSLY dropped each of the above items. The previously part makes me feel they won't drop this item again after update. But that could be me over analyzing stuff lol >.<

Way I read it, which my roommate saw it differently is this - I think the mob will still drop it, like leaping lizzy will still drop the leaping boots but he'll either drop that or the rare/ex or ex version of it. So you have a chance of getting either/or. I dunno tho, my roommate thinks he will stop dropping them altogether, and you will have to go about getting the regular[not rare/ex] versions a different way. Guess we'll find out after the update =)

first: i have never tried dragoon

second: to start a new thread regarding updates, the current one, and leave this pld/nin one behind.

third: don't you guys think this update should have had something in it for dragoons. it is one of the most descriminated jobs and under played ones. i was really thinking of trying it but the general consesus from LS, people i met in pts, and people in other places; lvling a dragoon is lost cause. its a shame i really liked the way it looked and i hear they do steady decent dmg. I also heard they had an ability to get back more on their TP after using their WS a long long time ago. maybe should bring that back so they are used a little more, besides fighting the dragon rank quest...
