Changes to Dragoon Job

In the next version update, major changes are scheduled for the dragoon two-hour ability. The development team does not consider the dragoon to be particularly weak when compared to other jobs, but we are aware that a large part of a dragoon's strength depends on the presence of his or her wyvern. After taking into account the wyvern's tendency to be quickly defeated in heated battles, and the dragoon's lack of a powerful special ability for use in missions and other critical situations, it was decided that improvements were necessary. Simply raising the wyvern's HP and defense to increase its survivability would cause balance issues in other parts of the game. However, it was judged that improving the dragoon's two-hour ability would have less of an impact on overall balance, and so the following changes have been planned for the upcoming version update: -New two-hour ability The dragoon will be imbued with the strength of his or her wyvern for a fixed length of time, increasing the dragoon's power and adding special effects to "Jump" abilities. -Call Wyvern The recast time for this ability will be reduced to twenty minutes. This ability will only be available when the main job is set to dragoon. -Wyvern Wyverns will now have the equivalent of the job trait "Subtle Blow," reducing the amount of TP gained by opponents from the wyvern's attacks. Are you trying to be stupid? Reread the god damn thing. It said that the JA is only available if you main DRG.

No, you win the prize, good sir.

He was referring to the fact that now, if you want to play DRG, you can still use your 2HR on another job and then play DRG with a Wyvern. Very convenient when you're leveling WHM and need to Benediction, but plan to solo something on DRG/WHM less than 2 HRS afterward...

Also, he's right again in that if you Call Wyvern, and want to have your 2HR for another job less than 2hrs after you call your Wyvern, you can Dismiss the Wyvern with 100% health to re-set Call Wyvern's timer.

Props to SE for this. While I never thought DRG to be weak, it is lacking in the special abilities department and the wyvern is very weak. Hopefully now DRG will have a better rep end game and all game.

Can't call wyvern with DRG as subjob.

I'm a Blm,Smn, and part time Whm. I dont even have Drg unlocked yet, but I've never seen Drg as gimped or not up to other jobs in ability.
I've seen drg in action alot(my ls leader, Brakki, is a Drg 70). As a blm we get alot of down time for mp and waiting for Magic Bursts, we get to watch the other jobs a party in a way you cant do when your always active. Drgs havent got a special ability or trick that made them stand out, but they do damage as well as anyone.
I've had a few Drg save the mages by taking a death, so this update will make them more effective the game, but they were never weak. Those who play it now are some of the best in the game. Peace out.

When I started playing back at the NA release, I named my character the way I did partially because I wanted to be a Dragoon (the rest has to do with my faith).

I was sorely disappointed in what the attitude towards DRG ended up being. I still love the job, but Samurai is my favorite.

SAM > DRG > WAR > RNG

This update will make the job even better. I'm gonna take it up again for a while then.

This is freaking awesome! I'm really excited about this update, and I can't wait to see it put into action. Only thing that worries me is the people who have absolutely no idea what DRG is about coming back to DRG and ruining it again by abusing their wyverns. That's my only concern, and I honestly hope it never happens

The only thing that I have a problem with is the new call time. I took alot of pride during leveling in the fact that I kept my wyvern alive. The new call time adjustment for me makes this seem less of an accompishment and will take some of the fun out of keeping the wyvern alive. Personally, leaving the call time at 2hrs would be fine, it was just that we didn't have that 'party saver' that most of the melee and mage jobs have. It will be interesting to see how this effects DRGs on a whole.

For Starters Rdm 2hr isnt you ever seen a rdm turn 10 mp into 500 without convert... as for drg 2hr well over all dmg is ok on it but the breaths is realy were the power comes from

The main reason I don't level my DRG is because to do so requires that I use my 2hr, which makes me nearly useless if I need to go do something with my main (PLD)...

Now that calling the wyvern doens't use the 2hr, I can call Lumiere whenever I want!!

Long overdue. I luv dragoons and it hurts to see them shunned for other jobs. It makes sense that half of what makes them cool (their wyvern) not take 2 hrs.

even if drg sub could call wyvern.. the wyvern would never b able 2 hit exp mobs(of if hit do for dmg) cause its half the lvl of the exp mobs u r fighting.. this would never effect what u SJ for exp purposes, would just b fun 2 pull it out when lvling ur NPC i guess ^^

Some abilities are based on the job's level, like BST's charm, for instance. If somebody's leveled BST to 75, and swaps to a level 20~ job with BST sub, they could charm just like they were a 75 BST. Call Wyvern is also based on the job level; every time a DRG levels up they have to dismiss and re-call their wyvern in order for it to level up. So a level 20 WAR/DRG could potentially have a 75 wyvern with no exp loss if it was available to other jobs.

I'm as excited as everyone else about this update but with Call Wyvern being a Job Ability does that mean that people can sub Dragoon and be able to call a Wyvern of their own? This is the biggest concern to me because all DD's could automatically become overpowered with the amount of DoT our wyvern does.

Other then that, I can't wait to see what the new two hour ability is called and does!

Wow Elliott...a Scholar huh? Perhaps a refresher of Reading 101 is in order for you or maybe you just posted w/o actually reading what you were posting about (it's ok a lot of ppl do that here). Let us pull out the specific description from above:

Why would you think that this would be available for a subbed DRG?

OMG! does this mean the rebirth of the dragoon? my dragoon has been on hiatus (lvl 52) for awhile because no one invites me for like 3 hours. but these changes could bring dragoon up. i agree that drg is not gimped, but losing your wyvern and having to wait 2hr is probably the lamest 2 hour in game, other then bards (come on now, increases the strength of bard songs)

20 min recast on wyvern is awesome, the subtle blow is cool, and i have been saying for the past few years that drgs need a special wyvern atk 2 hour instead of the one they have. finally SE has listened to the people.

Not that it's the best 2hr (admittedly, i often 2hr for S&G) but bard 2hr CAN be very useful as well, in a tense fight. Double Ballad for mages and Double Minne (or Mambo, for NIN tank) for PLD can really be the difference between a full wipe and a manageable situation...

Trust me the most abusive 2h ability in the game is the rdm Chainspell ability. This is one of the most flexible and potentialy deadly 2h abilities there is in the right hands. Admitedly most of it's potential is reached at the higher post-convert levels but Chainspell can be grossly abusive in the right hands. This 2h is the reason the RDM maat fight is considered the hardest (or the most luck dependent) in the game. There is nothing funny about being on the receiving end of a Chainspell'd mix of nukes and asuran fists (******* treats asuran fists as a spell!!!). it's uses go from "OMG I have to get out of here NOW!!!" to "excuse me while I nuke the bejesuz outa that mob". It makes a thf with max haste gear and a haste buff look slow. Useless??? O.O;

Hate to be a wet blanket, but at lvl 60, I've found Rng 2hr to be pretty damn weak...try going with Barrage + Sharpshot, then throwing out Sidewinder once you get 'em...it far outdamages EES.

Well this should be interesting, I never thought DRG was gimped honestly *60DRG* and while I'm not 75, I've enjoyed 1-60

This will be cool though, special effects on jump will be pretty sweet
