October-December Announcements Part 2

The holiday season is here and the Final Fantasy XI development elves have been busy putting together goodies for all the good boys and girls of Vana'diel. We are planning our next major version update for Thursday, December 9. The details of the update are as follows: There will be several new quests and events added to the Promathia areas. New quests will also be added in Non-Promathia areas. New monsters (including notorious monsters) will be added. Over 15 new "orb battles" will be added. Several new weapons, types of equipment, and items will be introduced. The difficulty of selected Promathia missions will be adjusted. Tavnazian Archipelago supply quests and regional teleportation will become available. Chat filter options will be expanded. A new Gobbiebag quest will be introduced. Shortcuts into Promyvion - Vahzl for those who have partially or fully completed the Promathia mission will be added. "Temporary items" found on the Balltista playing field may now be stored in one's inventory for the duration of the match(es). Also several previous "special" rules will be implemented permanently. A new point system for rating Ballista participants on their performance will be introduced. The stack number for several select items will be increased from 12 to 99. In accordance with the adjustments, players will be unable to put items up for auction for a short period of time. Details on this temporary maintenance will be provided soon. Several previously unstackable foods will now be stackable. The duration and effect of certain foods will be adjusted. The Old Sabertooth in Sauromugue Champaign will no longer drop any items. The variety of items that can be dug up using the "Scavenge" ability will be increased. A new thief job trait will be added. The potency of etudes will be adjusted. "Spirit Link" will now heal a wyvern's status ailments. The accuracy of "Blood Pact" attacks during magic bursts will be adjusted. The strength of "Blood Pact" attacks will not increase as much when fighting weaker enemies. The order of messages that appear when using the /nominate, /vote and /propose commands will be adjusted The fee collected when placing items on auction will be determined by the current auction price, not the store/guild selling price. In addition to the changes mentioned above, many other adjustments are being made. A complete list of all changes will be available on the day of the update. Also, we are planning several new events for the end of the year, so keep your eyes open! Another issue being addressed during this version update is the monopoly over certain monsters and items by a number of players. The development team is currently working on several methods to combat these types of actions. Some methods include the introduction of similar items, and new ways of obtaining items. Articles 23, 24 and 25 of the PlayOnline User Agreement as well as Article 6 of the Finaly Fantasy XI User Agreement specificly prohibit the sale of any in-game money, characters, and/or items on internet auctions, etc. Any players found participating in RMT (Real Money Trading), whether it be buying or selling, may have their accounts terminated. Please consider the consequences before partaking in actions that may result in the destruction of all your player characters. Finally, for all existing and future Windows version players, we have developed a new benchmark program to test the playability of Finaly Fantasy XI on your personal computer. "Vana'diel Bench 3" will not only display the stunning landscape of the Lufaise Meadows, but will also offer a sneak peak into some of the most exciting cutscenes from the Chains of Promathia missions! To download this free software, visit the Final Fantasy XI homepage, or any participating game sites.

I just wish that they would make an area for lvling between 56-60 that doesn't involve crabs for us monks who don't have a static party to play with or give us a weapon that will allow us to do dmg to crabs like a war or a drg or a thf could

and don't forget about us mnk/sam's we need parties also

wow... goto Gustav Tunnel, I-9. Kill Doom Soldiers and Doom Mages. My LS monk and I (pld) have gotten TONS of xp from bones. In fact, bring a pld, 3 mnks (yes, 3), whm, brd and average an easy 5k xp/hour. Get frequent chain 5s and watch in disbelief as your pld will nearly never get his 4th Voke. Then marvel to your friends about how you went from 56 to 60 in a week and a half.

How does SE know if someone has bought an account from somebody? Say I bought one off IGE, which I have not, how would SE find out if I bought an account from them? Short of SE getting all of IGE's records somehow I dont know how they would find out. Anyone know any other ways?

Duh, the account information would change. Name, credit card info...wouldn't be to hard to figure out if you bought an account.

So what if the credit card info and name changed. I would just say my grandma or some other family member is paying for it now. So its not as easy as a name change and credit card info.

I only ask cuz I know of a few friends who have bought accounts and will think its funny if they get booted after paying so much for an account.

# Dec 01 2004 at 8:51 PM Rating: Default
I don't think the ideas about having drop-rates increased and spawn times decreased would effect it at all. Drop rates increased wouldn't do anything, because the farmers will just sell the item for whatever they want anyway, and that's just more money for them. Spawn times decreasing wouldn't work either, because these bots would just get more chances at the NM, still basically shutting us regular folk out.
In my opinion, the best thing to do to combat these gil-sellers, is to take all rare NM drops (at least the ones that are selling for, say, over 100k) and make them all Ex/Ev. This would completely wipe out the gil-sellers, and give the people who will actually use the equip, a chance to actually get it. (What a novel idea!)
Of course, if this happened, the gil-farmers would probably just resort to botting crafting, in which case, all you miners and harvesters would have a real tough time getting points.

{Uh...} I'm not too sure the whole making NM drops Rare/Exclusive would work dude. Let's say they made Sniper Rings Rare/Exclusive. There would probobly be 100 people camping the NM at a time then.

And not a moment to soon either. I've lost so many great friends to the ever rising cost of Rare equipment. I wouldn't mind starting a whistle blowers campainge that finds Gilfarmers and NM farmers and rats them out to GM's. Sadly this would get so abused and innocent players would fall target to people who weren't loved by their moms and dads. I really hope SE can pull it off and allow loyal players to renew their faith in FFXI. GO SQUARE-ENIX!!!!!
Gosh I guess my only question is: When is this update going to happen? I never saw it. :(

Eh, there's nothing even remotely wrong either gil-farming or NM-farming. You must be confusing that with gil-selling. You simply can't fault someone for employing a valid economic strategy to gain gil: monopolization. Yeah, it's incredibly irksome to me and most other people who don't like to attempt to lock up a resource, but it's OK to do. The only bad part about this is that some also indulge in griefing and using voke-bots to ensure their monopoly.

The patch message is fantastic news. The biggest problem in any game with shared resources is resource contention. Every time there isn't enough of something, it's an invitation for griefers to come fight over it and chase the decent folk out. Moving items to spawnable and instanced fights takes away the reason to fight over stuff. This is VERY good for the vast majority of us. I've sent feedback on the resource contention issues for a year asking for precisely this kind of change and it's nice to see it finally happen.

BTW, it's perfectly natural for those who want to live in the game to progress at a faster rate than others -- whether that means XP/levels or Gil/items. It's just sad that some of that progression was also at the expense of those with less obsessive or addictive behavior. It's great news that we'll not have to worry about that in the future.

Oh, and as far as the prices go, IMHO most of the people whining about prices are whining about stuff they don't even remotely need. You don't need leaping boots or hairpin at level 10, for instance. You don't even need them at level 60. Peeps whining about prices would just find something else to whine about if the prices were lower. I doubt the patch will alter pricing much. I suspect what we'll mostly see is a big hit on pricing for a couple extreme heavily and easily monopolized items (like sniper rings, harness, kote, signa, etc.) -- things that are generally easy to lock up with a low level character and are already high contention.

I also predict that many of the new methods to obtain similar items will require a group and be level capped. I suspect this will cause a new surge of whining by the same folks whining about prices now. Just gonna laugh at 'em. It's a MULTI-player game. I LIKE that solo play and solo players are more or less unwelcome in FFXI. Nearly all griefers are die-hard soloists. Social people are much more fun.

I'd dearly love to see every solo-attainable item to have an outright BETTER group-attainable version in the game.

Hate to tell you:

On Ramuh there were about 10 people all with names starting as Ls. They always group-bot-camped and were gilsellers.

(They could normally be found standing at the four corners of a platform in Castle Ostroja, ready for that NM)

Luckily they got sloppy and MPK'ed. Now they are banned.

Honestly, I believe that items like Leaping Boots (which are supposed to be low level EQ) should be made Rare/Ex. They are meant for certain jobs, not for making 350k.

Hey well i have a few thoughts on gilsellers....well for starters evert world has them and alot of ppl dont like them why?...cuz there always there 24/7 and they get it almost every time....what could SE do about it?...well they could raise spawn rates and drops...what would that do?...make it easier on ppl so it could drop prices....but then ppl sell it for what they want....even if SE lowers prices its really up to the supplier/consumer....how much willing to sell compared to what were willing to pay....the only problem is when ppl need these items there redicolously high....makes it hard for ppl....as a 45thf i make good money hunting these rare items however the most gil ive gotten is 450k at once wich isnt even enough to buy leaping boots on my server....if SE could make everything cheaper it would make EVERYONE happier and make things easier...whoever making things too easy could make problems.....i pride myself on my current equip and if everyone had everything good what would make me stand out so id be picked for pty?....ppl couldnt tell from a bad thf to a good thf....even tho equip doesnt mean your good it maens you have accomplished alot....or you buy gil =\....well these are my thoughts

Why not just have the NM spawn in a much larger area. Granted this would **** off people, but if you think about it the gilsellers would have a lessened chance of getting the item. Eventually someone would find the NM. Just makes more sense instead of having it spawn in one square (Except for morion which we all know who camps taht 24/7... *caugh* Hunty *cough*)
RE: idea
# Dec 01 2004 at 6:41 PM Rating: Default
yea ok that would be a good idea too but then they should lessen the spawn time too.

and i think that they japanese ppl will know every spwan place in like a few days tho (>.<)

and what else i think is ok all you RNG's will hate me for saying it since the NM's are called Notorious Monster i think they shouldnt show up on wide scan so everyone has the same chance of getting a NM's since everyone pays for this game

I agree, take the NM's off Widescan - not everyone wants to fight with a ranger - not everyone has a RNG lvl'd high ehough for 99% of the NM's in the game! A rdm doesnt have widescan, and War doesnt have widescan! But, i doubt SE would do anything about that...

Eh? so you are saying RNG should not get widescan cause its not fair to people who arent playing RNG? How about taking off treasure hunter then, cause it wont be fair that THF get better drop chances than other jobs? besides, I dont remember ever seeing a RNG Gilseller, or a RNG monopolizing a NM. its usually NIN or DRG.
RE: idea
# Dec 02 2004 at 11:56 AM Rating: Decent
I agree. Taking away widescan is just plain silly. I could just as easily make an argument for taking away provoke from warriors because it gives them an unfair advantage when hunting NM's because it is faster than any spell. There is nothing wrong with widescan.

I'm not going to agree or disagree either way. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. The only thing I will say is that the suggestion was to make NM's "invisible" to Widescan not take Widescan away. I hunt NM's as a MNK/THF mainly because I don't really have the desire to level a different job at the moment. Sure, it makes hunting a challenge... but is it really worth it if there's no challenge involved? Check my gear, you'll see that I've done quite well. Point is, if you say you can't hunt without Widescan or Widescan is an "unfair advantage" than maybe you should try a different strategy??

That's my 2 Gil.
RE: idea
# Dec 02 2004 at 9:18 PM Rating: Decent
no what i meant was make the NM's invisible so everyone has a fair chance on getting the NM becaue i think its kinda unfair that RNG's can see NM's on widescan and that its dead before anyone else can get it because of the RNG's

I camped NMs both as RNG and BST, the two jobs that get Widescan. Its not as easy as you think to just scan and run up to it. Scanning takes a few seconds, specially if you scan an area with lots of mobs close together. With RNG, a lot of times I resorted to just running around like everone else did, cause most of the times I saw a NM on widescan it was claimed by the time I got to it. It still has more to do with getting lucky and have the NM spawn close to you.
Not to mention how annoying it is to scan every 3-5 seconds lol. Try doing that for an hour and you'll just end up running around instead.

thx SE for stoping the gilsellers but could you now set a cap on the NM's so that you can only camp it for a sertain numbers of times so everyone can have a chance killing them?

And whats up with THF's getting a ney ability i think that the DRG's should get a couple new abilities so we get invited into pt's and not jus be Lone Dragoons/Lone Drgaon Kinghts we want to be loved like all the other jobs.

Wyvern limitations
# Dec 01 2004 at 5:32 PM Rating: Decent
Personaly I love my Dragoon, but I hit a plateau at level 29 (>.<), I really get mad cause if for some reason I am in town or by a crag and hop on a chocobo......I lose my wyvern!!!!! Sometimes I forget that my little fire breathing pet is behind me, or if I am in town I totally forget that ( HE!!! cause mine is a male wyvern :) is waiting outside and I rent a chocobo in town, then BAM!!!!! 2 Hour timer is gone and I have 1:32:52 left to use it agian. So I lose him for however long it will take to reset my 2 Hour. I hope they fix that farely soon.

Err... they fixed that a long time ago. If you dismiss your wyvern at full health it recharges your 2 hour.
RE: Wyvern limitations
# Dec 02 2004 at 1:00 PM Rating: Decent
Yeah if you call him back, it will set the timer to 0:00, but If I am in town and I forget that the wyvern is summoned because it is waiting for me outside. Renting a chocobo in town will dismiss my wyvern an not let me summon it again until the timer reset's. But I really like the idea that when you log out with your wyvern summoned, you will have it when you log on again the next day or in 2 hours, with the 2 hour timer reset ^^, Kudos' for SE.

But I hope they do fix the chocobo problem, at least when you are in town in a hurry trying to get somewhere then opps!!! Raiden was outside, now I have to wait an hour to get him back :(

What exactly should happen to the players that had to spend a wealth of time to legitimatly earn gil to purchase things like Monster Signa or a Morion Tathlum? How would it be fair to someone who planned on selling their signa eventually?

Whatever SE decides, I hope they don't negativly affect legitimate players.

In the next one, add 'ability to gain exp from certain quests will be added' I'd like to see this game get a little away from only getting exp from a mob and have more quests like Eco-Warrior but solo and job specific (maybe have job guilds that send you on job related quests for exp and more job specific equipement)...

Personally, I think that'd be a -great- idea ^.^ Parties are fine, but that being the only way to make any decent experience kind of detracts from the game, in my opinion. I'm working towards 30 so that I can do the BST quest, but it's a rough road to get that level at times. (Yea, I know, the higher the level the rougher the road, from what I hear.)

I can't find it to quote it at the moment (>.<) but someone had mentioned the thought of being able to craft some of the drops from NM's, or something like that? I'd -love- to be able to craft a Rabbit Charm for my thief >.> Don't see it happening, but it'd be nice, lol. If nothing else, just being able to buy it for a slightly better price or at least -get- to Jack would be good. ^.^

Yay for the updates. Here's hoping they work.

how bout increasing drop rate on the lil bugger? ;_;
i always drop by for a bunny hunt whenever im in the area, and have a current record of 0/17 on the ******* bunny spawn of &^%$#% -_-

maybe they could add a lil bit of code to make sure that each player has a guaranteed drop after a certain number of kills.... im 0/22 on hoo mjuu too >_< im a 58BRD/29whm main, and 35THF secondary... i've spent well over 36 hours camping for my signa (mainly just so i can say "yes i have a signa" to random BCNM inviters XD) and at least 24 hours on jack (just cuz i like Steal :P i hope SE adds some new equip that has "Steal reuse time -4" so i can steal every minute >_< i really think steal/mug/pilfer should be available much more frequently more like every other FF game.. basically trading an attack for a chance at an item/gil... should rename "Mug" to "Pilfer" and add a real "Mug" ability >> steal + damage)

My suggestion for the gilseller issue:

If they are reported, and confirmed by two GMs and at least one non-GM witness, the GM's should be able to call Bahamut down from the skies who would rip the gilseller's body into itty bits of goo, devour all the chunks in one swift gobble, then **** out the dude's equipment and gil to be lotted by everyone in the zone at that time. Then delete the account. This will anticipate players to hunt gilsellers (which currently we have little ambition for), not only for the items but also to watch a dragon ****.

And good thinking on Scavenge - hopefully they take into account the suggestions of Scavenging arrows used from previous battles, or at least a 75% or higher chance to scavenge Arrowwood Logs.

Oh great, now I have to ignore /tells from moronic idiots not only when I fish, but now when I am hunting an NM too. wow. isn't that great.

I'm 3/3 on getting the idiots that /tell ME repetitively banned. Hopefully I can hunt the fish/NM bot hunters more effectively.

What I don't understand is why people take time out of their day to care about what I'm doing. I fish while watching TV. BFD. I NM hunt while watching TV. BFD. I'm not a bot. The GMs know I'm not a bot, I'm on a PS2 for gods sake. (Picture in picture is great).

In short, play your game, stop hunting out "botters" all you do is **** off the people actually playing, and **** off the GMs with your constant reports about "botters", and waste your own time. Let GMs and SE worry about botters and the economy, go fish yourself or hunt an NM yourself, maybe then you won't be such a pathetic, jealous player, with crappy gear, and no gil.

Settle down mate, I'm talking about the players who camp Ordelles, Giddeus, and other gilseller hotspots, and obviously the botters. Nobody's going to think you're a bot if you don't act like one, and from the sounds of it you're more than safe. On the other hand, if you're running back and forth from spawn 1 to spawn 2 trying to fill your inventory with 14 Sniper Rings, you're asking for it.

Those are the people that SE needs to target. Ones that are consistently raking millions upon millions of gil every day or two, and selling it to IGE... not your average guy who wants a ring for himself and a ring to sell. I've camped a few NMs myself, not my favorite pasttime, and from my limited time in Ordelles getting my RSE I've learned that I will never camp there for the rings I so dearly need.

There's no reason why there should be 30 people up there at any given time. If the rings were worth less, or the mobs popped less, or they were available from a quest, then it would be much easier to acquire for players who need the gear to actually use.
yay!!

Sorry to say, but I strongly doubt they actually would do this... I'm not entirely sure, but that sounds like it would be violating their end of their contract, so to speak, with us...

Though I have heard prices are indeed dropping, wonder why....
