Site Speed Issues

You should hopefully be noticing a significant increase in site speed. We recently purchased four new high end servers (bringing us to a total of 19 servers for the site, half of which we added in just the past year). Two of them are hooked up as of today and already making a difference. The other two should be brought online in the next week. I don't know if this will help when 4 games go down at once on us (as happened a few weeks ago), but it should mean we will run pretty fast during most regular usage and normally expected peak periods like the Tuesday morning WoW down time. Thank you for you patience with us as we have continued to upgrade our site to handle our growing pains. In just a couple of years we have gone from a site doing around a million page views a day to one that does between five and six million a day and is now one of the top thousand most visited sites on the entire internet. We are continuing to tinker and adjust and upgrade in order to try to continue to make this the best destination on the web for MMORPG gamers.

Thanks for running the site, the membership pays for itself on warcraft patch days.
thanks for the good times :)

the membership more than pays for itself every year.

Alt+tab, click the shortcut on my desktop, type in the npc name i'm looking for :)

was worth it with EQ, MORE than worth it with warcraft.
Growth

Definitely faster now. I remember back when there were only a few pages for EQ...

It's amazing what you've done. Keep up the good work.

As for the ads slowing the load times, that must suck. I haven't noticed them because I bought the premium back when the magelo premium cost the same as this site and offered less. I haven't seen any reason to cancel it either.

IMO, just supporting this site is worth the few dollars I pay, even when I take a hiatus from all my MMO's...
hmmm....

Lol I thought of something I saw on TV when I read this. I can't remember from what but it said that "the Internet is used for relaying porngraphy amonst the masses. That's all that it will ever be used for and that's why **** will alway be the most viewed thing on the internet." Now is thise top thousand nothing but **** sites or non-**** sites?
not too shabby

well i must say this site has been my homepage for quite some time, and in the past it was grueling to look almost anything up.ever since the new server upgrade i have only had to refresh a page once, and i am on here at least 3 times a day to look something or other up.Loading speed is still not perfect, but nothing ever is. So all in all great work, and keep the content coming, you guys/gals rock

Gotta love upgrades u can never go wrong there. I mean thats why they call it an improvement right. i think im on this site at least 3-4 times everyday and notice when there is more traffic than times when theres not. The lag is just something ive come to expect so cutting back on that is definately gonna improve my browsing, how could u go wrong there...Rate up for that one!!! Thanks a bunch.
You rock

Much appreciated!
It must cost hundreds, if not thousands of dollars a month to run such a place like this, but continuing the service for years? Now thats dedication.

Thank you everyone @ Allakhazam!

Slow as always

Those damn adds are so freaking slow to load.
If you have a browser like firefox you will notice this. This site would beat thottbot by far if the adds where to load last!

I've never had a problems with ads on this site, as I am a paid subscriber. The ads are needed to cover the cost of providing this service to everyone, whether they pay or not.

Btw... Thottbot has ads too...

we get ads because we do not pay for premium services, these ads are how we get to continue using
this extremely in depth site w/o being forced to
pay, as well as a large chunk of how they can afford
to implement new servers. having ads that load last would kind of defeat the purpose for the advertisers
which would cut money out of the sites bank.
i just wish this site didn't have ads for gilsellers
which do appear every now and then. =(

You could always get the adblock extension.

Adblock extension simply doesn't show the ad,
but it still gets downloaded.

I'm not sure if there's any way to totally block
the ads from slowing your browsing.

I'm using the Firefox adblocker, but the browser
still loads the adds, just doesn't show them.
At least I know I'm waiting for the ads to finish
before the actual content appears.

I know the ads are necessary, but why the popups? And besides that on bad days, only the ad is loaded, not the content of the page, this happends a lot lately, after 5 refreshes i give up and move over to thottbot.

Seems like alot of the adds are loaded from sites affiliated with spyware. If that is the users fault, or Allakazams I am not the one to say.
Great job!

I wholeheartedly agree with the others. Awesome job, especially considering a good chunk of us don't even pay for the site.

Square Enix {Can you hear me?} Take a hint from these guys. =P
