Alright I managed to fix my POL problem by doing what Kurrutsu. I looked for the file called pol.exe.temp2 (or something similar to that) and changed it to pol.exe (but first I changed the original pol.exe to pol_.exe just incase it didn't work.) Now POL finally works again.

But it looks to me like they missed something when they put out the update. Mixing up the PS2 version and PC version of the POL update. So it's trying to do PS2 things on my comp which is making me quite upset.

Well, I'm on Ramuh so I have no choice (server maintenance right now), so I fifgured I would pop over here and see what all the hub-bub was about.

Like many of you, I was a little confused about the Pop-up install thing from the other day. After clicking [Cancel] approximatly Seven times, I could get in and out of FFXI. Very annoying. The next day, the problem appeared to have been fixed. For thoes still having trouble with this, go ahead and let the installer do it's job. After a couple minutes, the error message seems to go away and everything is back to normal.

I'm a little worried about what's going to happen after my server is updated. Seems that the first ones are suffering a little backlash. Down the road, these 8 hour services may be extended to 10 hour services and so on.

If I didn't have the day off today, the point would be mute

I also got the movie problem where you got the black screen when the game try to load the movie. This bug can be easely fix! Just go in ff11 setting and shut down the opening movie, the rest of the game work normaly.

this patch is nasty!!!! It locked up my PC when I logged off. Tried it again did the same thing locks up the PC. nasty nasty nasty. <^>(-_-)<^>

I guess i'll just join the whole bandwagon here myself.

I myself get the POL install when I try to load it, but after negating it enough it loads.
Then after logging in I get the network busy/connection status error 1160 I think it is, which is Firewall/Connection error.
And when clicking cancel I get version update failed.

But here's where my problem extends farther out.
I still can't login even witout the router and going just cable, and since this "patch" I can only play on my ps2...which is stupid.
Whatever happened also effected my mIRC as well, because I can't connect to a single network, nor to any type of Newsgroup.

So anywho, there's my 2 cents.

The last 3 worlds they updated are having technical difficulties at the moment. I assume the problem spans across all 3 as I can't login to Bahamut (sticks at notifying lobby). I reckon they'll get it fixed soon. They're usually pretty good about that.

As far as the other problems people have been having with POL itself I can't comment as I haven't experienced any. Good luck to everyone who has been having issues with it though. I suggest trying some of the things people have suggested here as it makes sense.

In the meantime relax and watch some TV or something.

I have a slightly different problem, tho also on Shiva. Can log into POL just fine, can select character and all that, but when it tries to send my info to the lobby, it times out. Anyone else with this sit?

Is this a problem everyone is having? Or is it just a few? I cringed in expectation of the same things I read here....went through the POL update...it closed and restarted.....and nothing went wrong!?

I logged on as normal and was playing in about 1.5 minutes. (wipes nervous sweat from brow)

Why are some being affected by this problem and some aren't? Anybody know?

sinds the update i have this weird problem..
i read forums daily and found a few hints/tips
like the one's posted above and on other forum page's but non seem to help

all of you people can atleast start your playonline viewer and get error messages and stuff

when i dbbl click on my playonline icon
it starts with the little "now loading" window
then the movie should start (my movie is off)
then you'll see a black screen with S.E.
after the S.E. screen my playonline viewer shut's down... it does'nt leave a message or trace... no logg file's or stuff like that
it looks like it just shuts down as if its suppost to do
i've tried starting it with all options on or off
full screen/windowed etc.etc.
movie on and stuff)i reinstalled the viewer 2 time's (1st on 2-8/2004 2nd on 3-8/2004)
i even reinstalled the game on 2-8/2004...
but with no happy feeling's at the end :(

i dont even get to the point where i should insert the cd... the whole player doesnt even work...

if someone got an idea or is planning to call.. ask about my prob to will ya (pretty pretty plsss)

well i got so pissed at the pol **** i uninstalled it and reinstalled at least it dont ask for the dam disc ne more but wtf now it wont even let me connect to the pol any help i ******* out pol still havent gotten a responce yet

Yeah woulda been nice to come home from work today and be able to play a lil FF, unfortunatly this update that i didn't need anyways has got me stranded... tried the CD, tried hitting cancel, either way I end up with a black screen from which I can't do anything... If anyone finally gets a responce from SE please post it!
