Graveyard Zone Added Today

April 7, 2004 The Graveyard zone, Shadowrest, is now live! We have introduced the new graveyard zone, Shadowrest, to the live servers. The zone will allow adventurers whose corpses have decayed, after 7 days, to retrieve it. They will merely have to greet the appropriate NPC in one of the following zones to activate their transport to Shadowrest; East Commonlands The Plane of Knowledge Toxxulia Forest Qeynos Hills The Feerrott Butcherblock Mountains The Field of Bone Shadeweavers Thicket Misty Thicket If you do not have an expired corpse, you will not be able to travel to Shadowrest. If you have multiple expired corpses, you will need to make multiple visits to the zone. We hope you enjoy this new addition to EverQuest!

Howdy,

I didn't find a lot of good information about the "Graveyard Zone" so I decided to experiment.

I took my ancient and retired monk and bound him in Rivervale at the Soulbinder. Then I attacked the Priest of Discord. Instant corpse. (my monk is level 18 so no need to worry about not leaving a corpse)

I looted all but one bat wing from the corpse and left it for over a week.

When I logged on I got a message (like the Message of the Day or more like the LDoN start message) telling me I had a corpse present in Shadowrest.

Finding the bloody NPC to hail to go to Shadowrest was a HUGE pain. No one seems to have made an exhaustive list, hell I couldn't even find the name of the one for PoK. But I happened to stumble on a discription of the location of the one in Misty Thicket.

Here's the straight ****.

1) Corpse's that rotted before the zone went live in early/mid April 2004... GONE. Don't even ask.

2) Corpse's made after zone went live, NOT automaticly moved to Shadowrest after ANY amount of time.

3) Corpses ONLY moved to Shadowrest after AT LEAST one week of REAL TIME has elapsed. (being logged in for 24 hours doesn't rot the corpse)

4) Once you get into Shadowrest (method to follow) you summon your own corpse (method for this to follow as well) and it has a one week decay timer, and NO _REPEAT_ NO!! Rezz timer. None. Zip. YOU CANNOT GET A REZZ IN SHADOWREST!! DO NOT EVEN THINK MAYBE IT IS POSSIBLE! IT IS _NOT_!! (Hope I've made that point abundantly clear.)

5) It is unknown if a corpse that rots IN Shadowrest can be re-summoned. I intend to leave the corpse there with one bat wing on it for a week and check again.

6) It is unknown how long ago MAXIMUM a corpse can have rotted (after the live date of the zone) and still be recalled. I don't have a serious way to test that and I have no intention of. Some people have posted comments that GMs/Guides have hinted that there MAY be some maximum. In general I'd say "the sooner you can summon your corpse the better" as a rule.

Ok, I'm going to ASSUME that everyone on Agnostic's green and verdant Norrath has either PoP -OR- the ability to find a druid that can port them to Misty Thicket. Period. I'm only going to use this guy as Rivervale is home or second home to all my characters.

Get your assets to Misty Thicket. Either by the PoK book, the Druid Rings or coming out of Rivervale. The guy you want is...

Roha Jumthief. He resides at /loc neg 330 by neg 2390 approx.
(This is DIRECTLY east of both the Book and Rings, along the east wall. Traveling south from the Rivervale tunnel you go south past the rats and undead and there he is... can't miss him.)

Say "send" while targeting him and you get a trip to Shadowrest. Only those with corpses waiting (unsummoned) or there already (summoned and not looted) can take the trip. Period. No rubberneckers.

Coming from Misty Thicket you wind up in the middle of the south wall of this VERY TINY zone. I'd almost say the boat in Iceclad Ocean is bigger. Seafury Island in OOT -is- bigger.

There is a big building in the center of the zone, kinda on stilts, and the "stairs" up to the second floor are directly ahead of you, can't miss it. In the building you see a bunch of skeletons dancing around a big pit. And a tall dark figure in a robe. (Resembles the IV from AR and others with the same model.)

You can hail the "Keeper of Lost Things" and follow the text to get your corpse.

Or you can try just saying "relinquish" (no " marks needed)

Along the south wall just a bit west of where you came in there will be a little "PoK book" that takes you back to Misty Thicket about 5 feet away from Jumthief. Handy.

I -presume- that other zones have different "zone in/zone out" locations along the wall, or the book may simply be set to take YOU back where YOU entered from. Not interested in testing it too heavily.

Hope that helps anyone who's been curious about Shadowrest like I have been.

I literally died the night it went live JUST to see this new zone, why cant I get in, I've been trying to get in sine April 14th (thus 7days after LIVE) everyday I log in, chat with the NPC and POOOOF I warp to succor point in zone
broke?
# Apr 15 2004 at 7:30 PM Rating: Default
Is it true this is broke on Terris Thule? I have had 2 charactors (my 64 druid and 52 enchanter) that was able to go in. I went in and saw some other peoples corpse in that circle. When I ask for bodies he says I am wasteing his time. It has been a long time but I have lost a corpse or 2 with both of those charactors in the past (just junk I had left on them).

I have a couple of charactors that was not able to go in there at all. So my whole question is simply does it not work on terris thule? I have been told by people it is broke on our server?

Ok, I had 2 bodies waiting with nothing but an earring on them so I could get a rezz from a GM because of a bug... I waited a week for them to respond and my corpses rotted just after Shadowrest came out. If you have no corpses, the Keeper will get mad and say he has nothing to return. If you do have a corpse, you will get a message every time you log-in that you have corpses in Shadowrest. When you ask the Keeper, he will ask wich corpse you want returned, or if you want all of them. When you say all they will drop at your feet, and will have 7 days untill they rot again. I am almost sure that you must have had your corpse rot after Shadowrest came out to have them go there. Again, you should get a message if you have a corpse.

Can you still get a Rez after you retrieve your body from the graveyard?
RE: Information
# Apr 14 2004 at 11:31 AM Rating: Excellent
It is stated very clearly and repeated in many posts that corpses will not enter the graveyard until they decay. This is 7 days and has also been reiterated. Knowing that the rez timer is less than 7 days (that's 3 hours children) what would posess one to wonder if you could recieve a rez after retrieval is quite beyond me.
RE: Information
# Apr 22 2004 at 3:50 AM Rating: Decent
had on an occasion a body rot after dieing due to a local powerfailure, and the power came back on after i left for holliday. (No biggy wasonly an sk lvl 11 or so) but the reztimer should still be at it's full 3hours. In such a case, the question is not incorrect neither the situation presented impossible, hjowever in most cases quite unlikely.

I hope however that this new graveyardfeature will encourage ppl to explore more and if they die in an impossible place, decide to give up on the involved char till it pops in the graveyard (instead of begging for walkouts/evacparties/recoverymissions) and play alts or on different servers. Sadly too many ppl i know only play 1 char and lack decent knowledge about the abilities of other classes.
RE: Information
# Apr 12 2004 at 3:15 PM Rating: Decent
So after reading what you wrote, it is safe to assume that you can still lose a corpse. You stated that the NPC will get mad at you if you ask for a corpse if he does not have one for you. Wouldn't it make sense to not allow people to zone into the zone if they do not have a corpse, like they stated they would?

Back on the date Kunark was released I lost my body and nothing was done to help me before it rotted. I had more than a few unique items that had been nurfed after I had them. Some of which would be worth a fortune still today. But I moved servers..

Can anyone answer me questions. Are you able to retrieve corpses from a LONG time ago?

Has anyone successfully gotten a really old corpse yet?

Has anyone gotten a corpse after changing servers?

Sorry for the double post. Anyway, just for grins I talked to Sarri with a charactor who had lost a couple of corpses about two years ago. It seems that the only thing you need to say is "send" when I tried using longer dialoge he didn't respond. In Shadowrest I talked to the Keeper of Lost Things whose responce was basicly (and not suprisingly): "Go away loser, sorry about your luck." Dang, I was hoping to get back that tattered leather armour and that fine steel longsword. Clicking on the PoK type book took me back to QH. All in all an addition I like, pity it wasn't in place back in the day......

Simple way is /corpse. If you do that in shadowrest and you get a message saying you have no corpses in this zone that means exactly what it sais. You can also do this in any other zone in everquest. If it sais your corpse is too far away for you to drag or something along those lines that means you have a corpse in the zone. If you have no idea where in the zone the corpse is you can either get a necro to summon your corpse for you or wait till it ends up in shadowrest. Nice new zone btw for those that can't get on for what ever reason.

I have never really had a problem with loseing my corpse. I mean other then plane of fear and plane of hate its really not that hard to get your corpse back. Most people that I know who has let there corpse rott usually was just to lazy to loot it on death and forgot about it.

Personalyl anytime I die I don't wait anymore then 1 day to get it, and that is only if its a newbie charactor.

Far as POF or POH is concerned, the only thing those planes are good for anymore is epic quests, so I don't ever fool with them anymore.

i had a friend log on my monk who was camped at naggy, who i pretty much only used on naggy raids. found him naked in PoK and when i petitioned it found it was over 30 days so gm could not do anything for me, I blame my friend still for not fessing up so that i could at least get my equipment but such is life.
Lets go back to days when EQ first started and if you gave someone permission to drag body they could loot it also. someday EQ will be just right and right about that point GMs will come on and say the game is done farewell.

Finally they added something like this.. Just like last year I was thinking about something similar to this..

But it was mostly go to a certain NPC in a certain zone and say a certain phrase and get your stuff back. Good addition IMO.

Wow....alot of off topic discussion here lol.
Ok...As a Necromancer I have to say I like the Idea of this Zone...Especially for Corpse retrieval in Fear...(possibly the most annoying thing I have ever done in the game)
Do I think this will mean that there is no more need for necros? not at all...lets face it...Most people that want a corpse summon are either A)Too impatient...or B) Too scared to get their corpse back. and for at least half of them will still need us to summon them. Will I still summon my owwn corpses rather then wait the week? Hell yes...I got too much to do to waste time like that. But some people will use this....and I also agree that the "My corpse rotted with all my stuff give me Plat" Excuse going away makes this Zone have my Vote =P

Visually pleasing tiny zone. With max foraging I was able to forage a tarnished coin and some water. Under the main building I found an unnamed spectre that conned green to a 51. When I hailed it it did not respond it just floated away. I wonder what its purpous is.

How could the mob be green to a 51 but red to a 65?

Right now, I don't think the zone is working properly. I went in there with my Mage and my Wizard, who both have rotted corpses. None of them came back to me. At Fan Faire, we were told that if you don't have any rotted corpses, then we won't be allowed access to the zone. Either that or the teleporter can't make that distinction.

Only thing I wish is that they made the "Decay to graveyard zone" quicker. I am tired of seeing the same corpses at different spots. An example is when someone leaves a corpse sitting on top of the Nexus stone in POK. We still have to look at that for 7 days... My suggestion would be to have corpses in game for no more then 3 days. If the graveyard zone works as it should then all of these "look at my corpse and try and click the stone" would go away.

On another note, I wonder how many corpses will be in the graveyard zone with one arrow left on them or a summoned water stone.

Make a hot button and get in the habbit of hitting it when you come into a zone. Also helps on lag since the excess corpse's don't need to be drawn. And if you can't see the corpse, then you can't click on it either.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, but how do you get your body back? My Enchanter's body decayed a couple of months ago, so when I heard about this I went ape. I am sitting in Shadowrest now, with the Keeper of Lost Things, a bunch of corpse summoners, and a blank. I talk to the keeper, he says something about [bodies] I say bodies to him and he tells me to leave. I know my corpse decayed, so how do I go about getting it back?

firdt youi have to get message that there is a corpse in the graveyard then you got to shadow rest talk to the spectre summoner. he will give you some information. key are the bracketed words. there are 2 parts. message does not come up unless your a fresh log in to char.

I don't think they would have every corpse that ever rotted in the graveyards, only the ones that rot after the zones went live. But, who knows. So, if you can't get them to talk to you I would assume its because you don't have a corpse in the graveyard.
RE: Didn't work for me
# Apr 08 2004 at 12:44 PM Rating: Excellent
The fact that you can zone into the grave yard zone suggests that you have a corpse. Well at least the message says you will not be able to zone in if you do not have a corpse in the zone.

A GM told a friend of mine that he could not get his corpse back because he died before the last back up. If this is a limitation of GMs then I would think that the zone would have the same limitation.

There are a few possible issues with the zone and its functionality.

1. In its current state, the zone is not summoning any corpses older than x number of days.

2. The code used to check to see if your corpse is available in the zone does not use the correct error checking. If your coprse is not retrievable then you should not be allowed to zone into the zone.

3. The red con NPC does nothing to help you, the no named green NPC does nothing to help you. Was this their intended purpose? The NPCs that port you into the zone could give you the same info as the Keeper of Things (think that was his name).

What are you talking bout Willis?

no rent items are crap! why would you want to die take a big xp hit just so you can 8 or more days later to go get them? besides doesnt no rent items leave you and all your corpses when you log out??
RE: nerfbat inc
# Apr 08 2004 at 9:11 AM Rating: Decent
Some keys and other items are no rent. they do not leave your corpse. Corpse storing of no rent items has long been a loophole. But corpses rotted after 7 days so you had to take the exp hit every 7 days, even if you had no real wish to loot the no rent items in that time.

The graveyard zone basically pushed back the 7 days limit to infinity. Want to go back to charasis north wing ? just loot that no rent corpse of 3 months old and go.

How can you think corpse summon is worthless, take for example a zone such as Vex Thal, if your raid force manages to wipe anywhere but right at zone in, the only efficient way to recover corpses is through corpse summons. Try to imagine the time it would take for a SoS rogue to drag 40+ corpses for rezzes, or your entire guilds raid force being, for all intensive purposes, worthles for 7 days untiull they all popped to GY. IMO the corpse summon spell is just as usefull today as it was pre graveyard zone.

I think what he means is summon corpse is useless..but I dont agree most sane persons would want to hurry and get thier stuff back and get ressed! and not wait until 8 days later. so summon corpse will still be a well used spell. But this patch doesnt make summoning a corpse a necessity if lets say you die in a underwater zone etc. as you can if worse comes to worse wait 8 days to retrieve your stuff.

Yes, exactly. I think its rather rude to demand that other people lose all their items on a corpse, for the sole purpose of giving necros a "purpose" to exist.

If you want your corpse before the 7 days are up, then you can retrieve it yourself - with or without a necro's help. If its faster/safer to do it with a corpse summon, the option is still there.

But, its no longer your ONLY option if time is running out. More to the point - why wasn't this implemented 4 years ago? heh.

Replace Bazaar as well, create Town Squares.
# Apr 08 2004 at 1:52 AM Rating: Good
Just an idea:

Bazaar is too laggy and not-RPG-like nowadays. I'd suggest that the whole Bazaar would be split into 10 or so mini-Bazaars that are connected together. Each mini-Bazaar i.e. Town Square would be in one of the starting cities and characters should be able to sell only in their home town.

Connection between Squares could be handled with a simple Baz-like Search-button, but it should be named appropriately, e.q. Listen to Rumours (you should still be able to see what is sold in other cities by listening the rumours).

This would make buying and selling a bit more difficult, but imho it would would add a nice amount of that rpg-content to the game.

We would get rid of laggy Bazaar, bring the life back to our home towns that are totally empty nowadays and make buying/selling more fun (imagine a trip to a hostile city just to buy a few sow potions).

The other way is to get to 2000's and create a stock market with Traders and Buyers (new trader option). Windblade futures and
Ornate Bracer share index loans...nah..

Anyway, If you're thinking the same way as I am, please ask Sony to develop this idea further in game or otherwise.

If you think that the idea is total BS, please reply this message in a civilized manner.

Oh, and please rate this post so I get a general idea how good a suggestion this is.

I rate the post on having mini-bazaars in hometowns good, even though I don't favor it's implementation. Role playing is all fine and good, but I would rather spend my online and RL time doing something other than traveling. I might add that resellers are already playing the futures game. I'm not really a reseller, but I buy things on occasion that I know will bring a higher price later when different players are online.
The post that follows with the idea of having NPC traders I like even better. I would love to be able to log off and still leave a few select items up for sale. I think limiting the number of slots is a good idea, and would probably increase the average worth of items for sale in the bazaar. I know there are times when I have worthless trash in my trader just because I have open slots. Of course, if those items are priced for lower level characters, maybe they aren't trash though, so I don't favor the idea of changing the percentage based on the level of character. Lower level characters can benefit as much or more than higher level characters from having items of their own level available in the bazaar, especially if they're not twinked.
I'm on about a four week vacation from my own computer and EQ, and I sure wish I could have had a few of my better items available for sale during this time! I'm also glad that in the future I can play right up to the time I leave for vacation with my normal daring-do and not have to worry about losing all my items because I had to leave before I could reclaim my corpse! Real life does sometimes call, and it's good to know that I can leave EQ whenever I need to without losing all my items if I don't get back in time. Congrats to the SOE team on this good idea.
RE: Replace Bazaar as well, create Town Squares.

Smiley: twocentsI think the town square idea is good in general, but each town square should be a safe zone and a portal should connect between each, Kinda like those in the Euridin city. I also think it would be fun if a trader could somehow lease a building (or booth in a building) to set up shop. With different lengths of time for the lease and maybe a NPC sales clerk to help out when the owner is out. There are so many empty locations and rooms in all the towns, I have often entered one and thought I'd like to open a restaurant here or there. (baking at 221 hehe) This would Include a sign stating the name of the shop. And ADD the name to the FIND button!!

It's all so fast nowadays.. I remember getting from Felwithe to Karanas by foot and without sow for some stupid letter to a guy named Kanthuk. And this was pre-Luclin. Maybe before any wizards too,I'n not sure though, can't think straight..
Glug, glug, glug.

= the time you actually spend traveling for something you're going to buy is nowadays relatively short amount of the total playing time, especially at higher levels - unless you trade for living.

I believe that idea is retarded.

PROBLEM:

What I hate of bazaar is having to leave my mule there, leave my PC running overnight to seel some stuff.

SOLUTION:

So I propose... TRADER BANK SLOTS & TRADER AGENTS. NPC's that do the selling for us, outsource the trading!! :)

The agent (Mr Anderson.. :P ) is a few new "trader slots" in the bank or an NPC that allows to move stuff from the bank. Just like the shared slots.

Set the prices of the items on the trader, but I can also set some expiry time on them. Sell for a period X or sell until date Y.

Then this agent "pops" in Bazaar and sells my stuff. The agent would be lag optimised, no animations. To keep it /role on, the agent will take 20% cut of the sales and transfer the cash across to the bank as it gets sold, this even when I am not logged. After the period is over the trader deactivates.

The trader doesn't have to be one per player, the agents could even be "grouped" so that depending on the item I sell, the go to an existing NPC traders. This would even allow to sectorise BAZAAR into smaller zones?. A bit like the Old Bazaars, one street full of smithies, another of taylors, warrior street, spell street...

Difference: There would be same items at different prices beacuse they come from "traders" of diffierent players. Of course not dependant on CHA. The "grouped agents" that sell the "agentised" trader items. They can be grouped by clasification of item/class/slot/trade...

Example, I sell slik, goes to the Tayloring Agent. I sell DRU armour, goes to DRU armour agent. I want to buy SHD Spells, go the SHD Spells.... just like in the Class guilds, but the items are being sold by other players not the NPC's themselves.

Protection against abuse, brain storm of ideas:

* only allow trader slots when the account has been played for XX days and reached lvl YY.
* limit the ammount of cash/items that could be sold
* limit one trader per account & per server (not per toon, since you have 8 toons on each server). Trader slots could be an upgrade of the present shared slots, hence limiting to one account per server.
* limit times on times (max 1 week?)
* keep % of cut taken by the "trader" inversly proportional to lvl. For example, trader at lvl 1, takes 50% cut. Trader at lvl 65, takes 10% cut.
* to collect proceeds of "trade when I am not logged", I must have an active account.
* other ideas?

RESULT:

I sold my stuff without locking my account on a mule and without running my PC for hours on end, just on a trader. I can seel stuff while on a guild raid, adventure, working on trade skills...

I can sell stuff while I am not on my PC and my PC doesn't need to be running!! I collect the proceeds when I log again.

Both of the above sound like great ideas, but to the suggestion of splitting the Baz into multiple zones ... well that would truly stink for a dial-up connection like I have (the time to zone being so slow it would be annoying.

To an NPC doing the trading for you: That is all well and good assuming no bugs happen and assuming that you can check on your sales/items left/etc. from time to time. If a crash happens, server resets, etc. and you lose items from the NPC because of it that would truly stink!

Howver, I like the idea to the extent that since I am on a dial-up and my connection is shoddy at best, having an NPC that would remain on and would also come back right away (popping back in as you say) and start selling my wares right away would be nice. This would make it more fair for everyone since I could remain on and would not lose out to the guy that sits and keeps clicking "connect" when there is a patch, hence getting back much faster than I and having more time to sell than I.

Also, they would need to keep the option of trading like we normally do, for the people that refuse to lose 20% or whatever to an NPC to do things for them.

However, the limiting of sellers to levels would be a bad thing. Think about it, if you want to play your main in the Raid or LDoN, etc. and you do not have a level 65 alt, then you are forced to settle for a lower sales % and such ... not good.

I am sure there are more things I can think of to throw a couple coppers at, but game time is a wastin'! Smiley: smile

I do not like the 20% commision, its a bit steep. Something more like 2-4% is more reasonable.

Horizons already runs a system like this...

The NPCs are called Consigners, the cut is 10%, and the timelimit is hardcoded to 48 hours... after that, the items return to your vault.

Only probs are that you can only have 5 items/stacks per seller on each Consigner, there's only one Consigner per town and they're not linked... and as portal travel costs per trip, browsing more than one is not cheap.

FF 11 has this too. You take the items you want to sell to the Auction house, set the price and go. After a few days...seven I think...the unsold items or the money recieve is sent to your Mog House for you to pick up on when you feel like it

(and the thing I like best about FF11 is that EVERY piece of equipment has a required level)
