Tournament Weekend Offers Loot, Promo Cards

The March Loot Tournament Weekend for the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game will be held March 7-8, so get ready to hand over 10 event passes if you'd like some Squadrons Over Corellia booster packs, a Boss Nass promo card and a Princess Leia Statuette loot card.

For players who like to use the TCG to add some in-game items to their collection, the Leia statuette is taken straight out of Star Wars: A New Hope from when the princess is giving her distress message for Obi Wan to R2-D2. As an added bonus, the meter-tall statue plays Princess Leia's Theme when you're within 12 meters of it.

You can find out more information on the statuette, the Boss Nass card or the tournament weekend here.

Galactic Hunters TCG Expansion Coming in March

SOE and LucasArts have announced that Galactic Hunters, the third expansion for the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game, will be released in March. And with a name like that, it should come as no surprise that bounty hunter favorites Boba Fett, IG-88 and Bossk will be making appearances.

For the first time, both light and dark side players will have the chance to employ some of the most recognizable and legendary bounty hunters in the galaxy. Players can issue bounties on opponents with the all-new "target" keyword ability and reap the rewards of completed bounties with unique, stat-enhancing bonuses.

The expansion will add 180 new playable cards to the game, as well as as three new keywords and 20 loot cards. Check out the Armored Bantha Mount for an example of the loot you can expect to find in Galactic Hunters. That Bantha looks like it could take on a tank.

Player Cities to Receive Improvements in Update 8

The upcoming Game Update 8 will bring with it some improvements to player cities in Star Wars Galaxies, and the development team has outlined some of the new functionality and ease of use features. One of the upgrades is the creation of a brand new user interface for city structures.

Before Game Update 8, cities that spanned across multiple game zones did not receive proper Structure Reports. Now, all City Structures will be shown in this brand new UI! These Structure Reports also show their current location in the UI. If you select the Structure in the UI, a waypoint will then be created leading to that Structure

Other upgrades will include a revamped Citizenship Report, the ability for mayors to announce messages of the day for citizens and visitors, the introduction of city recycling centers, and the ability for mayors to set administration rights at city halls so other players can decorate them. You can read about all these updates and more here.

Game Update 7 Notes

Here are today's patch notes :

The Ewok Festival of Love

  • The Ewok Festival of Love has returned to the galaxy! Visit Tyrena, Kaadara, and the Southern Ewok Lake Village from February 10 through March 10 to join the celebration of love with the Ewok tribe.
  • Be sure to check out all of your favorite features from last year's event: dancing Ewoks, chocolate fountains, and much more all return to this year's Festival of Love. Queen Kylantha has once again extended an invitation to the tribe to visit Naboo, so Chief Chirpa has ventured to Kaadara with the tribal shaman Logray to share their rich culture with the galaxy.
  • There are four all-new Festival of Love activities this year, including a chance to play cupid!  Use any earned Chak Hearts to purchase several rewards that are exclusive to the Ewok Festival of Love.
  • The Ewoks are also offering the traditional Festival of Love cuisine. Camby berries and chak juice are available, but because the Ewoks do not yet fully trust outsiders, festival-goers must pay a small price for these luscious treats. The credits are well-spent, however, as this exquisite fare offers beneficial effects.
  • Allayloo ta nuv!

Star Wars Galaxies Gets Updated, Too

Well, not only is the largest of its kind updating, but so is Star Wars Galaxies! Not to be outdone by Blizzard, Sony Online Entertainment has released a small patch to fix a couple of issues on their release. There will be a slight amount of downtime associated with the patch, but nothing too serious.

More can be found here.

Free Character Transfers Begin Tomorrow, Jan. 13

The free character transfer service that was first mentioned in December kicks off tomorrow, Jan. 13, in an attempt to alleviate some players' concerns regarding server populations. The transfers will be offered to accounts with characters created on or before Dec. 11, 2008 on specific galaxies. The opportunity will end on March 31.

Here's some links to all the information you'll need regarding any transfers, including the list of eligible galaxies:

Appearance Window Tab Added in Game Update 6

The Life Day celebration may have ended today, but Star Wars Galaxies players received Game Update 6 in its place. The biggest change with this update is the addition of the appearance window, which was outlined almost a month ago.

The Appearance tab has been added. All characters may now access a window that determines the outward appearance of their characters. This Appearance window allows you to equip armor, clothing, and jewelry that do not alter your stats, but instead are simply for show.

Now you're free to completely customize your characters without sacrificing any stats. Keep reading after the jump for the rest of the patch notes.
