Dual Class System Explained

Today, the folks over at Runes of Magic have given us a preview of their unique "dual class system", in which two classes can be specialized in past the tenth level.

Berlin, 2008/07/29: Having just being announced a few weeks ago, Runes of Magic has already caused some buzz with some very interesting RPG features. One of these will be the highly interesting dual class system of the upcoming fantasy online role-playing game.

Basically, players can choose from six main classes when starting into a new online career. According to individual preferences, they can select to play a warrior, ranger, cleric, knight, mage or a rogue (details for the classes can be found on the official website: http://www.runesofmagic.com/en/content,3,classes.html ). New classes will follow with future updates. All classes in Runes of Magic dispose of an individual skill set that allow impressive combo attacks in cooperation with other players. When a character reaches level 10, the player can select a secondary class, which augments the possible class combinations up to 30 individual combination types. Hence the dual class system of Runes of Magic functions like two characters in one and offers a lot of interesting tactical choices about how to approach the multiple challenges waiting in the game world Taborea.

RoM: Dynamedion Contributes to Soundtrack

The folks over at Frogster have partnered with Dynamedion to create what should be an outstanding soundtrack for Runes of Magic!

Orchestral backdrop for the free2play Fantasy-MMORPG

Best German Soundtrack 2004, 2005 and 2007 (German Game Developers Award) plus best main theme 2007 (GANG Award at GDC San Francisco) – Dynamedion has many reasons to be proud of its prestigious awards collection. Publisher Frogster has now entrusted the prestigious studio with an impressive soundtrack for its upcoming fantasy MMORPG Runes of Magic. Dynamedion can fall back upon a great amount of experience in that particular field. The creative hotbed of sound-engineering situated in the German town Mainz already recorded the fantastic backdrop for Spellforce, John Woo’s Stranglehold, Anno 1701, Drakensang and Die Siedler V & VI. Even in the world of movies, Dynamedion can boast of successful work for 10.000 B.C. or The Bourne Ultimatum.

According to Managing Director Pierre Langer the sound’s atmosphere for Runes of Magic is going to be impressive high fantasy orchestral music. “We see Runes of Magic as an amazing challenge. It is […] our first Fantasy-MMO, one of our preferred genres.” Especially the concept “… to create ever changing moods in the game world, in order to achieve an intensive connection between game and music,” is what excites him about the project.

On the teaser site, interested parties can still subscribe to the newsletter and will automatically be informed when the beta registration process starts: www.runesofmagic.com.

Start Zone of Runes of Magic Unveiled

After first story fragments of the new fantasy online roleplaying game Runes of Magic, a detailed game design document now describes the environment in the starter zone. Illustrated with many original screenshots, the scroll portrays villages, forests, mines, caves and lowlands of the Howling Mountains that every new adventurer will set his feet in at start.

The Howling Mountains, once a meeting place of lower demons and wild hordes, are nowadays characterized by their mellow landscape. Loud screams of former sacrificial rituals resounded through the area before the Council of Varanas and the Eye of Wisdom banished the howling in a great wraith expulsion. Since then humans have settled in the peaceful, hilly ley. The Settler Valley, the Pioneer’s Colony, the Crushed Plain and a windmill serving as Logar’s landmark invite adventures onto a discovery tour through the Howling Mountains. But there are also ominous places there. The Barren Caves for example. Formerly a breeding ground of terrifying daemons they even now instil fear into the humans heart. It is said that goblins now dwell there and that they have begun to look for the daemon’s treasures.
