Exec Producer's Letter Marks DDO's 5th Anniversary

Today is Dungeons & Dragons Online's fifth anniversary, and Executive Producer Fernando Paiz has marked the occasion by writing a letter to the community. The bulk of the letter focuses on the in-game anniversary event that's currently under way, which Paiz says actually provides some hints about future DDO content:

"Although I can’t discuss all the details today, we have so many great things coming to DDO this year! You get a taste of things to come in our Birthday event if you know where to look. We are working an ambitious new crafting system for the game that we will work on throughout the year which is based in part on the barter UI currently used to claim your event rewards. The ability to select from a broad range of quest levels like you do in Crystal Cove is also an important component of an all new content system we are working on for later this year. And of course we have lots of new adventure packs coming your way - primarily focusing on the top levels of the game - that are unique, atmospheric, challenging and very fun!"

Paiz also says that a live beta of the DDO service localized in French and German will kick off next month. After five years, the game is still expanding to reach even more players throughout the world. Happy birthday DDO!

Touring with Turbine: DDO's 5th Anniversary

When it comes to gauging the success of specific MMORPGs, while most tend to focus on opening week sales and subscription numbers, for me, the sign of a really great MMO lies in how the game evolves over the years. On that note, probably one of the best examples of an MMO that knows how to continue evolving is Turbine's Dungeons & Dragons Online, and this year seems like it will be no different. I met with DDO's Executive Producer, Fernando Paiz, and DDO's Producer, Eric Boyer, for an in-game tour, to check out DDO's big plans for their 5th anniversary celebrations.

Turbine Announces Character Undelete Paid Service

If you've ever regretted deleting one of your characters, then you'll definitely want to take a look at Turbine's new Character Undelete Paid Service. You can now revive your deleted characters in both Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons & Dragons Online for the cost of $19.95 per character.

According to Turbine, most characters can be undeleted, regardless of when they were deleted. So if you're really itching to play a character you got rid of a year ago, you should be able to pay $20 and get the character back without a problem.

It's important to note that paid service requests are processed in the order they are received. Due to the demand for the new service, Turbine warns that players should expect a longer wait than normal for the next month or two after launch.

You probably have a lot of questions surrounding this new service, and Turbine most likely has answered them in their in-depth FAQ. Keep reading after the jump to find out how this service will truly affect your characters.

Turbine Addresses Service Interruption

Turbine has released an official statement regarding the massive service interruption on January 30. Turbine lost service across the board causing all of their game worlds and web sites to come to an abrupt stop, including Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons & Dragons Online. The following statement has been released on the LOTRO community site regarding the interruption:

"As many of you are aware we experienced a major interruption of service yesterday that impacted all of our game worlds and web sites for a number of hours. This was caused by an unprecedented disruption of both primary and backup power systems at our main datacenter. All services have been restored and we are working with the relevant vendors to prevent future issues of this nature. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue. We understand that weekend gaming time is important to you, stay tuned for more information about our plans for this weekend!"
