How to make lots of money with DE (guide)Follow

#227 May 15 2007 at 8:04 AM Rating: Decent
This is definitely working for me so far.

I don't have much time to play so these timeframes would probably be compressed for someone with more time.

I grabbed an alt four weeks ago. I sent him 150g from my main and leveled enchanting through DEs only as I leveled him up to 20. I finished leveling to 20 last weekend and I had about 200g in the bank. The only things I bought were gear so my alt wouldn't get wasted while grinding and questing. Probably less than 10g worth. I blew some money on arcane crystals for my main. I scanned the AH twice a day.

This morning I broke 400g and had about 200g worth sitting in the AH. I login and scan in the morning while I'm getting dressed for work. I do a quick scan for short durations as there is usually good money to be made there. Then I scan much as ohmikeghod did, by level. I resell about 1/4-1/2 of what I win bidding and DE the rest. The only time I buyout is when the lister clearly mispriced the auction and it sells well below HSP. Incidentally, I hold on to those for one day in case the lister realizes the mistake and wants it back.

The only thing I would add for people who haven't watched the AH much is, when you look at the item, see how many times it has been listed. Be leery of items that have only been listed a few times. It doesn't mean that the price isn't right but you could be listing it for way too much (and lose money) or you could be listing for way too little (and lose money).

So, after a month, and leveling an alt from 0 to 225 in enchanting with 150 seed money, I'm going to say this definitely works.

Still not working, and I havent found alternative Addon for this. Guess we need to continue calculating it by hand.

Hand calculation works fine. I helped two people get flying mounts, which is the only reason I'm below 2K gold at the moment. In a week or two, I'll be back up to normal.

Oh, and I finally got to L35 and 275 skill, so I can DE anything in the game now.

After just one session of doing this, new alt, starting enchanting skill, I can confirm that it works. I did my first run on the AH looking at level 1 to 15 stuff, the things you can DE with starting skill level, and 10g in my pocket. Now with the stuff on the AH from the second run, if it all sells for buyout, I'm looking at 31g, having made 70% profit on the first set.

Looking forward to levelling a bit so I can DE higher level stuff.

ok then:) Actually I am working on a tool that would calculate the prices for you in javascript (since I dont know the addon coding so well). I will prolly finish it in a few weeks since my vacation is starting. This also means I will do a whole remake on the site and the guide.

Contact me if you want to help with it.

Bottom scanner has nothing to do with Enchantrix. Auctioneer 4.0 does not include Enchantrix - that has to be downloaded seperately. You will want the latest alpha version of Enchantrix to get /percentless and /bidbroker to work.

k downloaded the new version installed and now when i scan the AH only things that pops up are for resale dont see anything that pops up for me to disenchant into mats for profit

I'm gonna give it a try. My hunter can de up to lvl 70 items and I have a little seed money to play with. I hope I can find some higher level greens. All those that I got from leveling tailoring de'd into mats that sold really fast.

Congrats!

I just wanted to ask about competition. I play on 2 servers, and the bid market on green items seems incredibly fierce. My alt is level 30, so he can only disenchant items up to level 63. I can hardly hold down bids, and it seems there are many people rolling high in the disenchanting market. Any tips for trying to break into the market better? Should I be bidding a little higher? For example, I like trying to bid 3g and under for items 58-63. I can go through in a morning, afternoon, make about 60 bids...I might win 4 of them. Should I raise my bidding limit to 3.4 gold for example?

I personally just run through percentless 70 and 60 and if I have time 50. I only bid on items that are medium or less time on them and use bidbroker 300 and bid on those items.

This is a great system. It's allowed me to buy my first mount and has turned my DE alt into a decent twink!

I've used some of my mats to level up, enabling me to DE up to 175 now and it has really expanded the types and numbers of items I'm buying. I highly recommend doing that. Just go five levels at a time and you'll still have enough mats left over to auction.

On my server, all the mats seem to sell well most of the time, though all have 'cannot match lowest price' occasionally. I just wait a bit and the next time I scan, that's cleared up.

One question though. Is there a way to move the auction house window? I'd like to move it to one corner of the screen to allow me to view my percentless list more completely, instead of 5-6 at a time.

Without directly experiencing the market on your server/faction it's difficult to say precisely what you should do or how far you should push your bids.

What I can say is that you need to think about your profit margins and how much you value your time. If the market is so competitive and your profit from D/Eing falls too much, you're likely to make more cash from grinding and questing so your time would be better spent away from the AH.

You might also want to look at other level ranges for the equipment you're disenchanting. Perhaps stuff in the 40-50 range (or even lower) will make you more cash, enable you to win more auctions, for the time you're putting into the business.

for your movement question, check out wowinterface or curse-gaming there should be an addon there that lets you move your windows.

Good for you. I think doing it with a bank alt makes little sense, myself. At least with a playing alt (or even a main) you will get to increase the range of items you can disenchant as you progress through game levels and enchanting skill levels.

My 2nd main (used to be an alt but now I'm bored with my pally) is doing the DE thing but also levelling. With a starting stipend of 5g, he's now over 300g and that's only within a couple of weeks. So that's the gear and mount paid for up to level 50+. By the time I hit 70, I figure I'll have enough to buy that epic flying mount straight off.

Back when this thread first started, a level 1 toon could disenchant anything in the game. It made sense to use a bank alt at the time. Now that you have to be at least level 35 to do that, I agree that it makes less sense. However, a lot depends on how often you check the AH for disenchantables. If you do it 3 times a day, it makes more sense to use a toon who's going to be near the AH most of the time. If you only check the AH once a day (or less), then it probably should be done with a toon that adventures.
