Has anyone noticed starting March 23rd, a large group of RMT (I assume) have been involved in massive Auction House (Jeuno) price manipulations of high gil, high volume items?

Some items involved: Astral Ring, Ether Ring, Minuet Earring, Chivalrous Chain, Potent Belt, Wind Torque, Elemental Torque, Woodville's Axe, Fowling Earring, Damascene Cloth, Sniper's Ring, Woodsman Ring.

They buy and sell items to themselves at low prices to erase the Auction House history then a day later raise it again to astronomical levels. And then lower it again. An example:

Ether Ring:

Mar. 24, 2009	Miritia	Reties	270,000
Mar. 24, 2009	Ikutak	Taktoru	270,000
Mar. 24, 2009	Sirduke	Viliang	260,000
Mar. 24, 2009	Corcodile Miyaan 260,000
Mar. 24, 2009	Meguru	Oghkde	40,000
Mar. 24, 2009	Arton	Oghkde	10,000
Mar. 24, 2009	Yangel	Damora	10,000
Mar. 24, 2009	Tsugunai Furusan 10,000
Mar. 24, 2009	Poochan	Guicsu	12,000

I'm not even exactly sure why they are doing this but its totally ******** with prices all across the AH. I called a GM and told them yesterday and they said they would 'look into it' but as of this morning nothing has been done.

I just wanted to warn people to be careful before they buy...prices are not what they seem. Also contact a GM and see if we can get something done about this.

After looking at this more in detail it seems this is the scam:

1) Lower the price of an item by selling it back and forth to lower the AH history.

2) Wait for a few to come on the AH at the new price

3) Buy a few of them at the low price.

4) Triple (or more!) the price and erase the AH history again buy selling and buying back and forth.

5) Sell a few items at the new high price

6) Repeat

Good example of this with Adaman Barbuta - you can see Oghkde buying a few at the low price and then they jack up the price immediately after and sell at the new price.

This sort of thing has been going for years, heck I used to have five mules in Jeuno and I played that game for a while. The trick is not to overdo it and attract attention. Remember when the taxes were implemented? That's when SE first noticed and tried to limit it.

The problem is there's nothing in the Terms Of Service (TOS) against it, so the GMs surely won't do anything about it.

Also, you could say that the whole idea of the Auction House is broken in a game where you want to control the economy.

If I were to design an MMORPG, I'd do without currency/trades/bazaars/AHs completely, and make the rewards proportional to the amount of work individuals put in.

Ya I have seen it happening as well but the scope and audacity of what these guys are doing the last few days is just beyond the normal hit and run manipulations I have seen..

Having been two days since I submitted a Task Force entry and notified a GM, I have to agree. Nothing will be done until its too late. They will have gotten their millions of gil and moved on. It sorta makes me sick considering how hard I have to work for millions of gil >.<

who cares really. all currency and items in the game is tangible. if people have the gil for it they will buy.
