(i posted this already in the main forums but maybe some of my fellow shivans can help me out.)

I have this weird problem going on ever since i isntalled ToAU.

I've been playing ffxi for almost 3 years now on PC.

Basically, everytime i log on to ffxi for the day, my PC always resets during one of these instances:
1. Character selection screen or
2. Loading/acquiring player data is about to finish or
3. Zoning into a new area or warping.

Number 3 only happened like around 3 times but the first 2, well it happens a lot. I notice them happening whenever i'm about to play for the day/night. PC resets, load windows again, desktop appears, click on FFXI icon, then when i'm on the loading player data part, it says that the same character is logged in and to wait for a few minutes then log in again. Then when i do get to log in, finally, everything goes back to normal. But when i d/c from the game due to connection probs, it happens again.

I thought it was just my PC but then i found out that the same thing is happening to my friend who also plays FFXI on PC. Both of us are using XP.

Another weird thing is, it happened again last night and when i re-logged, my keyboard controls went to default and half my macros are erased.

Anyone can help me out on this?

My hunch is my ram but isnt 512 memory enough? Besides, I never had a problem like this before.

My PC right now is running on a 2400 sempron processor with a fan as big as my fist (sorry i forgot what brand of fan i was using) and a 9250 radeon vid card with 128mem. I'm only using a 40gig hard drive with around 7gig free space.

I had the exact same problem after installing ToAU, and I had never experienced random restarts at the character selection screen or while zoning before, and I couldn't figure out what was causing it.

I finally broke down and uninstalled/updated my graphics drivers (it had been quite a while), and since doing that it hasn't happened a single time.

I recommend you test stability of your PC. For me it looks like you have problems with your memory module.

Use Prime95 program.
http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm

download install -> answer "Just stress testing", go Options -> Torture test -> click OK. It'll begin heavy calculations and if your mainboard / cpu / memory has any problems it'll will report error. So if for say, 20 minutes it's working and not reporting error then it looks like it's software problem (and may be you should replace your radeon 9250 with something newer). If it reports error then 99% you have problem with your mainboard/memory/cpu.

Ok. Will gonna try updating my vid card drivers first. If that doesnt work, i'll try using Prime95.

Will post how it works out.

Thanks ^^

Odds are it's the graphics card since it happened after installing the expansion. SE tweaked the graphics around in it, so it broke compatibility with a few cards.
