Ant ManFollow

It was okay. Bouncing it in my headmeats whether I enjoyed it more than Ultron or slightly less, but I did enjoy most of it. It wasn't overloaded with jokes and banter like Ultron for one, though the ones that were in place mostly worked out. Michael Pena was kind of annoying and I could have certainly used a little less of him. * (Spoilernot the super detailed "he-said-she-said" scenes, just the ones where he's acting randomly goofy) The movie itself lived up to my expectations. A simple heist movie. Not a world is in danger or anything like that.

Douglas made for a decent Pym, Rudd was a good Lang, and truthfully I didn't read enough MC2 to tell about Hope, though as a character she was kind of just average. Absolutely loved the girl they got to be Cassie Lang, though. She was quite cute, and her and Scott's interactions really were great. But really, the ants really stole the show. They were just great. SpoilerSpoilerAntony Really, between the ants and the heist (and the planning for the heist slash training montage) made up the brunt of the movie. They pretty quickly explain what happened to Janet. SpoilerSpoilerShe basically took Bucky's original death, which made me cringe a little. They didn't say or hint anything, but I'm totally calling SpoilerSpoilerZemo on that. The middle sequence SpoilerSpoilerwhere Lang has to break in to the new Avengers compound and fights SpoilerFalcon seemed a bit much, but at the same time pretty damn fun to watch. Unlike Winter Soldier the fight scenes here were less about the choreography and more about the shrinking and enlarging, which were just awesome to watch. Even the end sequence was fairly trippy, which gives me a little more hype for Dr Strange. Lots of bright colors and shapes and shaking camera angles. Especially enjoyed how one second it looks like they're causing huge amounts of damage, and then the next it shows it's really nothing, and then the next is HUGE COLLATERAL DAMAGE kind of thing. Might cause some motion sickness. My favorite sequences all involved the ants in some way. They're the real stars of the movie.

Really not much to say. If you're not really hyped for it then it might not be worth a theater see. Good when ticket prices go down maybe. It's good, like I said, and I enjoyed it, but it's not GREATEST MOVIE OF ALL TIMES or a must see. Did set up some nice strings for future movies, and the end credits sequence (there IS one this time) got a squeal out of me so that's worth waiting around for.

Solid 7 8/10, give or take a point depending on your geek levels. Edit: After a day I decided I did like it better than Ultron.

Edit: The name drops were pretty neat, too. SpoilerSpoiler"Tales of Astonish" and "Irredeemable" were snuck into conversations, and they hinted at SpoilerSpider-Man during the ending sequences, prior to the mid- and end-credit scenes.

It's supposed to be hot as hell and incredibly humid tomorrow, so I'll happily spend my afternoon sitting in a freezing cold theater. I'll post some impressions then.

So, it was freezing cold in the lobby, not so much in the theater. I almost didn't wear shorts because the last time I was there I was pretty chilly while wearing them. I'm glad I did today.

Anyway, decent movie. Not Marvel's best, but not they're worst. I'd put it on par with Thor 2. Worth watching, but nothing terribly special. The action scenes were well done, and the story was adequate, though pretty straightforward. The villain was pretty uninteresting and was really just there to fill the villain space. The movie did suffer from far too much Michael Pena. His character was annoying and didn't add much to the plot. They could have replaced him with just about anything and it would have been better. I rather liked Evangeline Lilly as Hope, though her hair style just doesn't look good on her and was a bit distracting. The after credits scene features SpoilerCap and Falcon talking over a collapsed Bucky, but nothing of consequence is said, so I have no idea what that was about. The mid credits scene is just a set up for SpoilerHope becoming the next Wasp. Neither scene did much for me, so it's probably safe to miss them if you're in a hurry. Anyway, I liked it well enough, but I'm not in any hurry to watch it again.

That was really good. Not their best movie but it was fun and entertaining in a lighthearted comic book kind of way. Much more like the earlier movies than the more recent ones. I liked it a lot. I definitely enjoyed it more than Age of Ultron or Winter Soldier.

I was scratching my head at some of the same things Tirith mentioned though. Most of the time I'm perfectly happy wave those sorts of things away as "magical movie science" but the movie specifically went out of it's way to describe how the process worked, only to contradict itself several times later on. It didn't detract from the movie at all but it still felt kind of odd.

It was good. Not great, or different (like Guardians), but a perfectly fine super-hero movie.

I really, really would have loved to have seen what Edgar Wright wanted to do with it, as he certainly would have made it funnier & more...original than what we got.

I actually enjoyed this more than Avengers 2 this year. Both do not compare to the 1-2 combo last year of Winter Soldier and GotG.
