Er... Pardon? We weren't even aware of your presence until you ran into the middle of us and started making random, obnoxious comments and observations, which we largely ignored until you began spamming and making suggestive comments to the mithra. So far as I'm aware, only two members of our linkshell even spoke to you at ALL in /tells, only one of whom politely asked you to stop spamming at us. (I saw her screen, she was in the same room as me.) I don't remember exactly what was said but I can assure you it was polite, inoffensive, and non-confrontational. The only other member who sent /tells was none other than Ninomori here and from what he's told me he also only spoke to you after your 'nine divines' spam. As far as I know, no one at any point asked you to leave, only to stop spamming. Someone may well have, but really - After insulting, spamming, and harassing us can you blame them?

Had you been behaving like a grown-up, blacklisting would not have been necessary in the first place. Several of us were actually facepalming over how you left your duo partner to kill things alone while you stood in the middle of us to spam. It's especially odd when you consider that one in our group had helped you with your SAM unlock quest. Is gratitude dead?

We've been roleplaying on this server since PS2 release, some of us longer outside of the linkshell. Our policy has always been welcoming to anyone who wishes to watch or join in at random, however we've gotten our fair share of griefers and harassment also. We love the former. We don't take any more kindly to the latter than anyone else.

If you happen to see us roleplaying, feel free to watch, ask us about it, or join in. If it happens to be in an area that's bothering you or other players, send us a /tell and let us know. If you spam at us and harass us... Well, you get whatever's coming to you my friend.

One reason rpers use /say is to meet other roleplayers. My little group of friends would never have known about the CantaPerMe guys if both ls hadn't been talking in /say.

Then explain all the Valdans and Galans running around Lakshmi. Being an *** is not against the rules any more than roleplaying in /say. Honestly, both groups are annoying to me, but until they do something against the ToS you won't see them banned.

Or, you could just filter /say when you see an RP group nearby and don't want to listen to them. Okay? Thanks.

contributing my own @#%^-ishness to a thread full of @#%^-ism.

dont like RPers? deal with it. its fun. last i checked, we play this game to have fun.

hell if i have to deal with the rampant stupidity i see every day, people out there can live with others rping in say.

it is, in fact, the aforementioned rampant stupidity that gave rise to this thread.

I'm not gonna lie, this made me laugh.

In my opinion, RPing in /say is no different than having a conversation in Whitegate with a friend. In fact, RPing on a cliff in Qufim Island is actually less of an annoyance because it's completely avoidable. Don't wanna hear it? Go do FoV on one of the other 102132 cliffs in Qufim. The only mobs unique to cliff areas are pugils, and they are abundant in every part of the zone.

Having been a regular in CantaPerMe until a few years back, I can say that they are some of the kindest, least obtrusive people that I've met in the game, and to have one of them call a GM on you means you were doing something obnoxious, offensive, or disruptive. No need to be an *** in a completely avoidable situation.

Why should the many have to adjust to the few just so you can RP as you call it?

I personally don't RP, and I have absolutely no problems filtering /say if I see stuff in /say that I don't want to see. Just like I have no problem filtering /shout if I see stuff in /shout that I don't want to see. I simply adjust based on my own needs, rather than trying to force others to change to cater to my own whims.

You can't force people not to RP in /say any more than you can force players to not macro flavor text in /say, or casinos from operating in /say. Why complain and tell others to change something when you already have a way to filter things out?

I've been annoyed at people who would blink their gear (on purpose) when I check them. Instead of ******** to them, I've learned to just type /c Name on them without targeting them, so that even if they blink it will still let me check their gear (they can even leave the zone and it wouldn't matter). I had the means to solve my own problem, even if it takes a little bit of conscious effort on my part.

The bottom line is, when someone/thing annoys you, you can either ***** about it (which tends not to do ****) or you can do something about it yourself. If you're the one annoyed by it, you should solve your own problem.

I'll go ahead and say right now that nobody here is going to make RPers start using private chat lines for their activities. Do you know why? Those party/linkshell chat modes are primarily used for OOC (out of character) discourse so that they don't have to constantly put (ooc) by everything that they say in /p or /l. I haven't ever been part of any RP group in FFXI before but I've observed how they work in other games.

You know, while we're here back on topic again, there's a lot of hate flowing around. So, I'm giving the call. Let it all spill out. Just what is it about role players that annoys you guys?

Don't be afraid to let it all out. We're all pals here, and while I still think the fair majority of haters are truly ignorant to what we do compared to what we're perceived to do... I think we can manage to work things out in the end.

I've never been bothered by role players after all the name *MMORPG* has role playing in its name back when i used to see alot of Canta pe me or what ever the LS's name was i used to see them alot around never bothered me once what they were doing we all *pay* our dues to SE so why shouldn't *they* do their role playing in /S /Sh if its part of the script? If you don't like it then just do /blist so each is on their merry way and leave each other to it.

I like role players. I am not a role player myself, but it's always intrigued me. However, my preference of chat tends to lean towards real life so I'd probably end up OOC all the time. Smiley: lol

We actually use the linkshell channel for both in and out of character chat. And a fair (95%) of said chat really is out of character. :P I've been away from FFXI for ages, but as far as I know, none of us are full-time role players. That would be wacky. e.o

We (as players) have all run by that mantra even before starting/joining the shell. While we really don't usually resort to using /sh as often as we're made out to be, I can't even begin to think of a reason that a chat in /s in the tavern in Port San d'Oria could possibly warrant a /blist, let alone harassment.

I often filter /sh, especially when in towns. I don't usually worry about /s, because rarely do people use it, and for most situations where it may be used, I'm not in range long enough for it to bother me. However, there are many more times where I'm in a situation where I need/want to see the /s channel, and having it filtered would be a problem. Therefore, it would be much easier for me to just blist people that might be using /s around me in those cases than filter it. It doesn't mean I don't like you though, and I do clean my list out frequently enough. But /blist doesn't always mean bad, just ignored.

Sure, sure. Go ahead and flex your high INT and CHR. D: I'll bet you like romantic dinners and long walks on the beach too.
