At this point it's just so much political kabuki that as many Americans are aware of what, exactly, is going on as there are Americans who know what "kabuki" actually means.

Mebbe we should shut it down more often ( and while we are at it, hold the paychecks of the house and senate-- a shutdown all the way baby! )

I love all the IT jokes floating around along the lines of "Tech support, I'm having trouble with my government." "Have you tried turning it off and back on again?"

Hey, it works 50% of the time in the real world for electronics. Worth a shot!

The Congresscritters nobly withholding their paychecks is getting old. "Hey, you're all fucked because we shut down the government and you're not going to get paid for weeks... but I'll hold off on my paycheck and I'm a US Senator so you know I'm two payments behind on my mortgage."

Here's a better idea: Open the government then you can ALL get paid. Hooray!

The only Senator that would have actually been hurt has been the Veep for the last six years. (I think at the time he was elected he and his wife had combined assets of 350K or so, which is dirt ******* poor for a Senator.)

Still, I doubt Biden was waiting for his paycheck to clear before he could buy laundry soap.

It's not just direct government employees either. Someone with a news stand or cafe outside the Smithsonian or running the cafe register in the federal court building in Chicago is fucked right now, too. And they don't have any opportunity for receiving back pay or whatnot. Point being, these people saying "Oh, but I won't take a paycheck!" is annoying and an empty gesture against the real pain others are going through for the sake of this shut down.

They should have to douse themselves in gasoline and strike a match every few hours.

That's pretty extreme.

I loved the "I don't even know whether it stops or not" line. Yeah, at that point you know there's not going to be much personal motivation to come up with a solution.

I know he's on "my team" but really, what an unbelievable bunch of *********************** They funnel money to their kids, who magically are all worth millions. What a happy coincidence!

Well yeah they're rich now, what with all the Obamacare money being magically poured into the VP coffers at the expense of the poor rural taxpayer. Smiley: nod

There's a dude here at the office that is kind of like how Biden was as a Senator. Senior in the office, probably makes six figures or close to it, well liked and well regarded as the guru. (Okay, maybe not so much like Bumbling Biden after all.) Could probably afford to eat at one of the nice restaurants in the area for lunch like 90% of the office does.

And yet he's in there with me every day, and we eat our little packed lunches with the other 10% of the office who are frugal and/or on a diet. Just like Biden rode the train to work every day as a Senator. Of course he could have afforded a taxi or a chauffeur, but why bother when what you are doing is good enough?

Yup, that $250 daily train ride made him just regular folks.

Of course he could have afforded a taxi or a chauffeur, but why bother when what you are doing is good enough?

Or airfare, which would have been cheaper in most cases. I heard he insisted on beating Jill every night, and no expense was too much to keep her in line. I didn't actually, but it's as plausible as "Joe Biden just wants to be a regular guy"
