Glad I squeaked in under the slowly-descending garage door, then. A couple of friends have invited me to stay indefinitely should the need arise. I'd just have to decide between Edmondton, Montreal, or Trump's apocalyptic **** on earth.

Well that and I'm now stuck thinking about applying Trump directly to my forehead for the rest of the day.

What do we think about Trump's executive order banning people from Syria, Iraq, Iran (lol), Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen?

Blanket bans are stupid and all, but I find it funny that the Internet and Media are making a big deal about how Trump didn't put Saudi Arabia or Turkey, Egypt, etc. on the list. Implying it's because he does business with them. When the more accurate reasoning is it's just par for the course for how the US treats those countries compared to the others in the region.

This is the same guy trying to start a trade war with our second largest export market and saying we should pull out of NATO. Assuming that Trump is excluding those nations primarily due to some sort of established foreign policy precedent and not due to plain self-interest seems a little naive.

SpoilerAccording to the draft copy of Trump's executive order, the countries whose citizens are barred entirely from entering the United States is based on a bill that Obama signed into law in December 2015.

Obama signed the Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act as part of an omnibus spending bill. The legislation restricted access to the Visa Waiver Program, which allows citizens from 38 countries who are visiting the United States for less than 90 days to enter without a visa.

Though outside groups such as the American Civil Liberties Union and NIAC Action — the sister organization of the National Iranian American Council — opposed the act, the bipartisan bill passed through Congress with little pushback.

12) Not present in Iraq, Syria, or any other country or area of concern
(A) In generalExcept as provided in subparagraphs (B) and (C)—
(i) the alien has not been present, at any time on or after March 1, 2011—
(I) in Iraq or Syria;
(II) in a country that is designated by the Secretary of State under section 4605(j) of title 50 (as continued in effect under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (50 U.S.C. 1701 et seq.)), section 2780 of title 22, section 2371 of title 22, or any other provision of law, as a country, the government of which has repeatedly provided support of acts of international terrorism; or
(III) in any other country or area of concern designated by the Secretary of Homeland Security under subparagraph (D); and
(ii) regardless of whether the alien is a national of a program country, the alien is not a national of—
(I) Iraq or Syria;
(II) a country that is designated, at the time the alien applies for admission, by the Secretary of State under section 4605(j) of title 50 (as continued in effect under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (50 U.S.C. 1701 et seq.)), section 2780 of title 22, section 2371 of title 22, or any other provision of law, as a country, the government of which has repeatedly provided support of acts of international terrorism; or
(III) any other country that is designated, at the time the alien applies for admission, by the Secretary of Homeland Security under subparagraph (D).
