Should have more coffee, that always makes things better.

Maybe you could pour coffee on your keyboard?

I'm pretty sure the coffee here would melt the keyboard, and through the desk under it.

He says while taking a sip of said acidic concoction.

Anyone try one of those Chinese smartphones hitting the market lately? Was originally going to get a OnePlus 3 this winter but then they teased the OnePlus 3T to come out next week. $439 for 5.5" screen, Snapdragon 821, 6GB RAM, 64GB storage, etc

But now I just bought a LeEco S3 for my kid a couple days ago (to be delivered tomorrow) which is usually $249 but had a $100 instant rebate. Not "flagship" quality but a steal for $149, especially since all he does is play Clash of Clans and text friends with it. They're running another $100 off sale for Black Friday and I could get a LeEco Pro3 for $279 after $100 off plus another $20 coupon. Close to the same specs at the OnePlus 3T but 4GB RAM (offset by a much larger battery). For $150 cheaper than the 3T, I can't complain. Biggest complaint from people seems to be the OS skin that tries to push you into the LeEco "ecosystem" but you toss Nova Launcher on it and you're good to go.

Yup. One of the realizations recently (I can't say by whom, of course) is that while Samsung and Apple are battling it out for who can produce a 1% better phone at the top end with premium price tags associated, there's a growing demand for more modest phones that cost 1/4 to 1/3rd as much, but have 85% of the capability (ie: a better deal over time). This is a growing market, which is expected to grow even more (especially in the US, which is just starting to figure this out).

And hey. My stock price (well, more like dividends paid out) goes up just as much from a sale of a part in a $200 phone as it does in an $800 one, so there's that. As a side note, I actually got a decent bonus this year, which hasn't been the case for awhile. So... Yay!

I have a Chinese smartphhone, a ZTE something or other. It was pretty cheap, but I bought it in China so I don't know how much you save with an export version over a Korean or American phone. Does everything I want it to do, but I'm not a huge phone user. Camera could use a higher res, other than that no complaints.

Oh, and it almost certainly has a bunch of spyware on there somewhere.

I think very few people are actually well paid enough for dropping $800 on the newest model every year not to be a questionable decision. ($100,000+) Some people really like their phones though I guess.

I couldn't help you out on this one, I picked up a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge a few months ago. It's great phone, with my only complaints being that the battery is not removable and that the glass back makes it a bit uncomfortable in the hand. A ten dollar skin fixed the second problem, not much I can do about the first.

The LeEco S3 came today and is set up. As expected, my kid was quickly receptive to the idea of installing Nova Launcher in lieu of the stock skin but aside from that it seems to be a pretty nice bit of hardware for the price.

I look at upgrading my Samsung Galaxy 3 last year and decided I can live with an old phone that doesn't like to charge unless the cord is plug in just right.

Only problem is that it can't connect to Square chip card reader, I got for selling my jewelry and Squared didn't provide information on what phones would until after I paid $50 for it. Since I sometimes use daughter's newer smart phone to accept credit cards, I didn't return it.

Now the reason I came to post on this dying site. Chinese pop song about Chickens. I'm not sure what the song is actually about, but I'm sure a English translation will be available soon.

There was a beautiful farm full of animals. A chicken laid an egg, then flipped out because someone had stolen her rice. Everyone said it wasn't them, but the tranquility of the farm was broken.

Cue two to three minutes of animal noises.

Is that the one that keeps blowing up and has to be shipped back in a specially designed box to contain fires/explosions?

It's the Galaxy Note that catches on fire, not the S7.

I stand corrected, but the S7 didn't get nearly the press that the Note did.

My phone is a Galaxy S7. The only time it ever became hotter than room temperature was when I put it on a cheap dollar store car charger.

Work gave me an iPhone 5. It gets pretty hot sitting in the middle of my dashboard charging in the sun being used as a GPS device. Can get pretty hot using data too. I won't get a new phone unless they give me one. The only reason I really have one anyway is cause they give me one to use.

Yes.

Actually, and I'm sick of explaining this to people, the answer is no. The Galaxy S7 Note, which uses a completely different battery than the Edge, is the phone that has a slight tendency to blow up.

That's because it likely isn't an issue. Even the author of that article clearly states that none of the stories of S7s catching fire can be confirmed.
