The Sunbreeze Festival!

Master, Master!
My wings are wilting wretchedly in this warm weather, kupo!
It's times like this that I wish I wasn't covered in fur...

Of course, we moogles aren't the only ones suffering, kupo!
All the craftsmen, merchants, and even the city guards are languishing listlessly while longing for a little relief from the heat.

But never fear, kupo!
Officials from each nation have joined forces with the M.H.M.U. to lift the spirits of sweltering soldiers and adventurers alike with a brand-new proposal: the Sunbreeze Festival!

While continuing the popular activities of previous festivals, this event aims to lure cool breezes from the heavens with all the fun and dancing taking place here on the ground, kupo!
The officials I mentioned earlier had a slightly different idea, but it was thankfully voted down.
(Casting a humongous Blizzaga V above each city and showering the citizens with shards of ice didn't seem like the safest solution, kupo...)

Fantastic fireworks and sensational goldfish scooping are slated to make a return this year, along with the introduction of the Rakapopo Dancers; a Tarutaru troupe that performs the Far Eastern Sunbreeze Shuffle!
And don't miss out on the wonderful prizes to be won from the addictive new game invented by Azimuth of the Alchemists' Guild, kupo!
All these absorbing activities are sure to take your mind off the heat, so join your friends and help make the Sunbreeze Festival a refreshing success!

Hmmm...I wonder if they will be handing out Yukata's this year also, like they did last year for Summerfest...

Hehe, and don't forget the fireworks every thirty or so minutes now!

Also as a side note, I did a lil bit of digging upon the whole idea of summer festivals, and found a couple that take place during the month of July that seemed pretty interesting, and probably served as inspiration for the SE version...

Gion Festival
Taking place in Kyoto, this festival is one of the biggest in Japan during the summer. Dating back from 869 AD, this Japanese festival runs from July 1st to July 31st.

During this time period, there are all sorts of street vendors along the main roadways of Kyoto, peddling a LOT of differant games (not to mention some Japanese festival food). Many people who go to this festival wear the tradition summertime gear of a yukata or a geta.

There are many events held by the town of Kyoto during this festival, but the highlights are: the Yoi-yama (held on July 16th) and the Yamahoko-junko (held on the 17th).

At Yoi-yama, people open the doors of their houses to show their old folding screens (that were passed down from generation to generation) to the passerbyers on the street.

During the Yamahoko-junko event, there is the parade of colorful floats through downtown Kyoto. The floats are pulled through the streets by teams of men dressed in traditional costumes. Each of the large floats carries musicians. This event with the wooden floats date back to the first year that the festival was held. In that year, a rather nasty plague was spreading throughout Kyoto, and in an attempt to secure divine intervention to stop the plague, the men carried around wooden floats. Fortunately, the plague ended not long afterwards, and floats grew into its modern day traditional spot in the festival.

Tanabata Festival (Scary...I knew the legend and all about the festival off the top of my head^^;;)

The Tanabata Festival takes place on July 7th every year. The festival came about from an old Chinese legend about a princess (a girl named Shokujo) and her father (the Celestial Emperor Tentei). The princess and the emperor once upon a time lived together on the eastern bank of the Heavenly River (the Milky Way Galaxy). Being with a lot of free time, the princess wove a various cloths and blankets and various other things for the many gods that her father ruled over. Anyway, after the princess became an adult, her father chose a herdsman named Kengyu, who ruled west of the Heavenly River, to be his daughter's groom.

Shokujo and Kengyu were introduced, instantly fell in love, and were soon married. The couple then went on a honeymoon that lasted so long that they both soon forgot about their jobs in life. The various gods became angry at Shokujo, because she stopped weaving her wonderful cloths for them, and Kengyu's oxen eventually became quite malnurished.

To punish the young couple for their lack of a sense of responsibility, the Emperor Tentei condemned Shokujo and Kengyu to be separated by the Heavenly River, and bade them to only be allowed to see each other once a year, on July 7th (7-7).

In order to see each other that one night of the year...Shokujo has to walk on the back of magpies to see her beloved Kengyu, for the Heavenly River is far to swift and deep for her to swim across safely. It is also said that if it rains on the night that the two star-crossed lovers are fabled to meet...then the Heavenly River overflows its banks and makes it so that they cannot cross to see each other...and so they are forced to wait another year.

Today, it is said that Shokujo is represented by the star Vega, and Kengyu is in fact the star Altair.

On the day before the festival, the Japanese write on a piece of colored paper a wish, and then tie it to the branches of a bamboo tree the following day. It is believed that if prayers are said then on the night of the festival, the wish will then be granted.
