I will read it in one second. But I took one look at it, and it reminded me of something else I had read.... I will post it as soon as I find it again via google. It seems very similar to this story I will post in a sec, as if he just re-wrote it to seem like FFXI. The dude for this following link wrote a fantastic story (whether real or fake), and I think this dude wanted that kind of attention. I will post my thoughts on in after I have read it.

Here's the link:

Just finished reading the article that Hiptaru posted. I believe he actually found a way to hack FFXI. It's a very interesting read. I still stand by what I said before that he got the idea from the above link.

holy crap gamion.. that was like one of the best reads i have had in a long long time.. It took me about an hour to read it all, but i am stuck in a recording studio all day, and it was very nice change of pace from having to do scratch tracks and such, and telling the guitar player he sucks, and to stop pussyfooting around with the guitar track..

This guy really took the game way to seriously, but i would have to say that the thread that you posted was just a really good story, by a wondeful writer.. There were no screenshots to back it up and such, but hell, i was holding onto my chair reading it, and biting my fingernails..

I think that the person i am talking about in my OP actually did this.. i just wish i could see an inventory full of the "." or one full of the golden beds and stuff, because that would make it more belivable.. Or at least a shot with more than 4 million gil in it.. hell i have at least 30 million gil, and i dont hack. lol

anywatys.. alla seems dead today, and i was hoping for more of a discussion on this while i sit in this stupid recording studio, waiting for my turn to record my ugly voice into the microphone and what not..

Peace.

Looks to me that the pics are photoshopped. Especially the Chocobo in Jeuno one. What he did could be true, but i find it a little too far fetched.

Tsetsuo originally posted Nightfreeze's "The Big Scam" EVE online story in Wildchild's "SCAMER ALERT POST" thread. I read that one a while back, and it actually made me want to try out EVE. I don't know where this came from, because there are no links of the story from the home page.

As for Nazaar's account, it was verified by second and third parties, so AT LEAST some of his claims were valid. Personally I believe that everything he did was real, however dramatic he may have made it sound.

haha me too, the concept of the game just sounded cool, and that guy knows how to tell a story.

As for the original link being true, i know that type of stuff works on Client only games, like single player games like GTA, etc.

Honestly i would want to see Video of this type of thing to believe it because even though it would be "possible" to edit video to fake it the odds are alot lower than simply photoshopping some pics.

The problem with this is things like your inventory are stored on the server and update to the client, not the other way around.

I'm a skeptic for the mere reason that there wasn't some HUGE story on Playonline.com or even the news... seriously... b/c if SE found out about this and verified it, I would guess that the media would get a hold of it and so on.... I mean, FFXI is such a big deal nowadays...

But, this guy sure does know how to tell a story and even provides "evidence".... so, I'm kinda in an "huh" state...
IF it IS true, then dammmn.... what an amazing way to cheat. LOL

Even if he took video, it'd be a fairly simple feat to simply change .DAT files around. I could easily turn the 5k gil Bronze Bed sitting in my Mog House into a Gold Bed. By all appearances, it would look from my client like I actually had a Gold Bed, but the servers would know I still had a Bronze Bed.

As for fishing up beds in the middle of Jeuno, that's downright bizarre, dunno what to say about that.

This same thread/story was started on the ffxi main server on the same day. A lot of folks posting to that thread chalked it up as the typical "Friday" thread were people try to hoax each other. Personal, I think it is a hoax as items are server side and not client side based. Now if he had fraps running and made a video out of this, that would be interesting...

About the original post about coding. It's possible people can find a way to making their FFXI client send a coding to FFXI server client said they are initiating certain action that can gave them reward caculate by the server base on the correct code player's client sent to them. By the end server client doesn't look at logs or words, It recieve computer coding lauguage and then caculate base on the correct code. If it's a false FFXI code that the server doesn't recongnize it, i don't know how SE's server client usually handle about those case. if that poster's claim is true, then SE's server might still randomly caculate upon false code and give out random items. Like the old case about people able to dupicate items with delievery box by simply disconnecting from the server at the right time, it already shown SE's server client didn't handle false code correctly in special cases that SE didn't expect it would happen.

SE trying to make the game more simple so the server won't be flood with too much caculation. With FFXI large players based, The server just can't handle mulitple file checking every time a player try to log in to make sure the player's client isn't modified. I think SE is already doing alot server client update recently to prevent these kinda case, but it just seem to impossible to make a perfect game that people can't find a way around it and cheat the server. Recently GMs' has been jailing people that using speed hack, it sounds like the "chocobo" thing in that post but i am not sure. But if you ask around, the GMs has known about the issue and been given order to take extra caution and catch those who use it.

If you really curious what SE has been doing countering the Beta version cheat. Go check the recent "Apr 19 Play Online viewer update" Quote from SE "Added a process that checks whether the installed software is a beta version or an official version upon launch of contents." People are still cheating with beta version and SE is countering them every way they can base on the currently system FFXI is using. This issue is more widely used cheat that players been using.

Also if people thinking why not just change the whole thing of coding between Player Client and Server Client works the way it is now? simply answer is : The cost to change the whole coding system will not be much less than just to make a whole new title of FF-online, it will need to change how the game engine works and code exchanging between Player's game client and Server client. If that really happen i think SE would rather just make a whole new title of FF-online than spend money to change the old one. Besides, there is only really small amount of "bored computer genius" that will spend their time study FFXI's coding system and find a way to cheat it. Majoritie of FFXI players are not experticing at computer, let alone ask them to understands computer coding. So it's not a mayjor problem for SE to worry because they have too many stuff to worry about, like how to release new game content for players to enjoy, "gilseller" inssue people been complaining about, fixing bugs, etc.

Here something real funny I found regarding the hacks and the notorious "." items. Well someone put a Gold Bed Rare/Ex on the AH and a pair of gloves in the Axe section of the AH called AXE and is named ".".

Ever since the dupicating exploit existed in FFXI before i already expected there are more than 1 exploit in the game. The server side client has alot holes for people to exploit. They really need to get more fix on the server side client. First thing they need to fix probably is when server side client recieve unexpected data from player client, what will it respond to it.

This shouldn't be consider as hacking because he didn't invade the server to create his item. He modified the client on his side and cause error, it send to server side and the server give him "free item". This probably should call Exploit.

I belive it simply on the principle that it shouldn't be something all that hard to do. Video games aren't perfect, after all, and there's bound to be a computer-savvy type who stumbles upon a bug that he profits off of.

It really wouldn't be huge. You're completely grandstanding. They'd quietly fix it in an update (which they either purposefully or inadvertantly did), and the Media? Puh-leeze. If the media cared at all they'd have said something about the ddos attacks. It's a video game, not a starving family in Afghanistan. Way to sound big and important though. ^_^

This is off topic somewhat...

I can't help but feel grudging respect for the guy, that's pretty amazing. I'd have never guessed they'd put exploits like that on the client-side program; I just assumed that everything was handled server-side, so there was no point in frigging with the code anyway; you'd just mess up the game.
I have to give the guy his due for being curious, and pulling that off....fishing in the middle of Sarutabaruta and pulling up beds. That's hilarious.

If I knew how to do this....I'd code myself to look like a GM.
I wouldn't CLAIM to be a GM, I'd just make it so I look like one to everybody else. That would be classic every time I go to join a party.
Especially when leveling lower-level jobs. God, can you imagine going through the Dunes and seeing a GM pulling Damselflies?
It would be even better when I get killed. I'd go to low-level areas on a level one job and die just for the comedy factor.
