As some of you (my friends) know I recently had a router installedin my home. So both my roommate and I could play online at the same time. However it was installed a few days ago as the DDOS attcks were beggining. since it has been installed I have been complaing of getting Dc'd very frequently. Sometime as soon as i log in I get dc'd. At first I blamed these problems of the server probs however I seem to be the only one getting dc'd every few minutes. When I get dc'd from POL I still have internet access though. That is the only reason I can think of to keep blaming pol for my probs instead of the router. Anyone have any ideas?

My S jumps between 71 and 133
and my R jumps from 0-1233

Before we had the router installed my S and R were usually around 200-360

To my Aquducts pt yesterday which included Atno and Drebond. Im very sorry. Because of me and my dc probs you guys had like a total of an hour downtime. Once I get my connection straighten pleae do not hesitate to ask me to come and help with the run.

Dude, same with me. I have this wireless router. It has three lights. One is the Power light, one is the Ethernet light and the last one is a "Wireless-G" light. When I'm playing, the Ethernet light and the Power light are on all the time. Then when the "Wireless-G" light goes on, I disconnect. It's pretty gay, IMO. The "Wireless-G" light means that it has a good connection... but with me no. When that light turns on, I disconnect. I disconnect like (I only play for like 4-5 hours a day) most of the time. So like 2.5 hours I disconnect. ******** right?

Well, I don't know what the whole thing was about... but oh well. We can compare =P

Im not using a wireless router. Im using a linksys cable/dsl router. along with a cable modem.

1 friend suggested I disable my windows firewall(Im on windows xp btw) and then check to make sure the ports are enabled.
Well i disabled the firewall and turned of my rommys comp went close to 8 hours of playing with only 1 dc. However my send and recieve was looking something like this.
S 171
R 84-1233

Also my recieve seems to greatly depend on the areas I am in. Such as my mh. In my mh my R usually is about 84 outside my mh in lower jeuno it looks more like 177-538

How do I check my ports for FFXI?

I would wait fer my stepdad but we're not allowed to hangout w/ him cuz he's so busy with work + he not allowed to stay with us. I'm sort of clueless with this cable modem. router, phone libe to router and a bunch of transformers. Do I need the USB connector included fer Activity light to go on. I've been waiting almost 2 weeks sigh...

I had this problem with a wireless router, though my PS2 was connected to it by cable. What basically happened with my router is that the connection would spike and drop, and while it would work fine for normal internet use, anything that required a constant connection (like Final Fantasy XI) would disconnect during the drops when they weren't receiving information.

I tried a few different ways to fix it, and none work. My best advice is just to do what I did...take it back and get a different brand. I have a D-Link right now and it works fine.

i had many the same issue with my network. i have comcast cable and a linksys router, and i was getting the really weird d/c where you lose your ls dot and you still see things happening for a while but you cant do anything. i went round and round with comcast and pol for months trying to get it resolved even on conference calls with them both blaming it on each other and some intermediary in the northeast. finally it got to the point where if, i wanted to play i had to connect directly to the modem, and would have no issues. i am suspecting its the router blocking certain tcp/ip ports. the problem is, unless you open all known ports you are kinda screwed. The way Pol tech support explained it to me was:

each particular job is run by a server
each types of armor and weapons are run by another server
areas are all run by there own servers

now each of these use different ports to coneect, so letfs say if you are a 65rdm Rolanberry Fields, you are using xy and z ports, but lets say you change to 60pld and go into rolanberry, you are using m,n and o ports. what it basically breaks down to for those of you who dont really know, is Bosmarck server is actually not 1 server, its more of a farm of servers working together in 1 cluster and that cluster is called bismarck.

the solution, either enable every port, which i tried and it didnt work either, or toss the router and just use a switch and keep your software firewall up. in the end neither comcast nor pol could figure out what was going on and pol was not forthcoming with any port #'s or ranges. and comcast still blames pol and so does linksys.

(ps the xy and z / m,n and o ports are not actually port numbers, ports are numbered 1-60,000 and all have functions for different types of communication, ie. tcp/ip, udp, netbeui, appltalk etc)
