Money or Friends?Follow

I saved up some gil awhile back to get a Powerful Rope but the price had jumped 150k to 250k. I started in on the LS aon the usual rant about inflation. A friend offered to sell me his Powerfull Rope when he hit lvl 70 (he was 68 at the time) for 150k becuase he thought that 250k was to much.

Well time comes and he askes me if I still want it, i said "yeah". He then told me that it's now up to 900k on the AH and he's not going to sell it to me because he wants the money.

Am I wrong to be upset here? He's the one that said 250k was crazy and offered to sell it me, I didn't ask, but 900k and he's tripping over people to sell it.

So would trade friends, your word, your rep, and some money for a decent amount of money?

PS I need to update my Sig, I know.

If I were you I'd challege him to a ballista match and constantly insult his honor and then after he beats you keep challenging him. Eventually he may get tired of winning and just give you the damn thing so u leave him alone. If that doesnt work goto the same zone as him and constantly shout about how you need a rope and how you only have 150k and that some guy (dont say names) was supposed to sell u one but he bailed on you due to greed.
Note that second one is a sure fire way to **** ppl off and will more then likey not give you anyhope of actually obtaining one.

So you're gonna get pissy at a guy for wanting to make a bit of extra cash... on an item that's his... that he bought with his own money...

Yeah, he said you could buy it from him for 150k. But the transaction wasn't carried out with. The item wasn't yours, it was his. And it was his to use as he saw fit. He decided he'd rather have the extra cash.

You're asking about friends or money, then you complain when you're not allowed to save a bit of money for yourself.

So.

Which is more important to you? The happiness of your friend because he got a bit of what he wanted...

Or the ability to save some money, your main quarrel with him selling his rope?

Sounds a bit hypocritical if you ask me.

hum. I think Alauce or whatever the name is, took this a bit more to heart than was required. I see both sides, he wanted the gil, understandable because the state of the economy in game is not good. You needed/wanted an item. I don't know what the item you wanted does, but I'll assume it's useful for you. I'll concede that he shouldn't have promised you could have it, but I'll also concede that you should take the time to examine his needs as well. To be a nice person, you help people when you can, not when it's insane. Giving away a 900k gil item for 150k is a bit insane in my opinion. I'm not sure how you save gil or what you do to make your gil, but I suggest returning to whatever activity raised your original 150k.

Friends don't trade themselves for items that would make your character better.

Gil is better.

I don't understand why that belt is so expensive, considering the quest was very easy to do... maybe that's just my 75 talking.

...I don't know. If it had been me, I possibly would have sold the item for what I promised, but I'm not sure.
If the person I was to sell to was a close friend, I'm sure I would have done it. If not, I'm really not sure.

That person could not have expected such a rise in item's worth;

Back then, selling you the item for the promised price meant selling for 2/5th less "loss", considering market value. I'd certainly do such a trade for a friend.

However, right not, selling you this item for the promised price means selling for 5/6th less "loss", considering market value. I'd probably only do that kind of agreement with someone I'm close enough to that I'd probably just give them the item anyways.

Events out of the control of either you or your friend made the context of the trade change greatly. I can't say I'd really blame them.

It's not about the money or me saving money, it's htat he told me we was going to do one thing, then did another.

I can understand why he did it, but I'm not certain that makes it better. I wasn't mad at the act, but saddened I suppose. I could afford it for the current price and would have given more then we discussed originally, but that wasn't the problem. I suppose it comes down to the fact that I know if it had been the other way around I would have been kicking myself a little for selling it for what the inflated price was, but I would have anyway becuase I had said I would. I would deal with it and not take it out on them. I would also have been happy at the same time for doing what I said I would for my friend and knew he would have been happy as well.

I'm not fuming, and I will still intereact with the person, as I sad before I understand why they did it, I just think it lowered them a little in my opionion. Nothing worth blacklisting over. Some are attributing more anger to this then I meant there to be.
