Ok, I'm done...
The whole reason for that was from day one, all I wanted was, a 60RDM in full AF. While I haven't gotten the hat yet (no time to do it just yet), I have attained the main part of that goal and that is level 60. Everything else in this game is just gravy now.
Think back, waaaaaay back. Remember that noob level 1 character that just got dropped into Windy, Bastok or Sandy? What did he/she want.
Was it Rank 10? Level 75? All jobs unlocked?
What was the one goal you wanted to get before you could consider your life in Vana'diel complete?

When I was a lv 1 noob, I wanted to be a Red Mage because I thought they'd be like the PSO FOmar and able to fight and cast magic really well. So I picked Elvaan and...eh heh, nope. :p It bothered me running out of MP so fast, and I wasn't nearly as powerful as I thought I'd be, so I decided I'd try a Taru. And never, ever looked back. Since I fell in love with my little magic ball, I decided he's going to be a Summoner.
Summoner had always been my single most favorite class since Rydia in FFIV. She was powerful and deadly, and that was what I wanted to be. ...then I learned what Summoners were in FFXI. :p Well, I could deal with that. So I started to level WHM to be my sub. But then, I started really liking WHM. I liked it so much that...well, look at my character info. :p I took it to 60 and got all my AF. Can't say I regret it. I liked WHM a lot more than I thought I would.
So technically, I haven't met my goal yet. Gives me a reason to keep playing I guess. :p Especially considering now I'm a PLD. >_> Yes, Taru PLD. Fear me. :p

Full RNG AF. Done it, and now my goal (ever since I saw the thread about Muteki on Seraph finishing it) has become the fully upgraded relic bow. I figure that'll keep me playing for a while yet. ><
my dream was to be a taru DRG in full AF. it still may be fulfilled someday but right now its on hold @ 31.

It's amazing how many people wanted to be DRG at some point. I know I did for my first few days of playing. XD
I had many goals when i started this game:
-finish as much of the storyline as i can (Mostly done, except for the Promethia missions and the Arc Angel fight for the Zilart missions)
-get Hexa Strike (done)

I dunno my PLD is 72 atm, I wouldnt mind getting either NIN, WAR or THF that high also.
P.S.: I almost forgot I am 54 DRG and the reason ppl wanna be DRGs is cause is cool to hang around with a wyvern at all times. I miss my wyvern Qiqiru <(;.;<).

I really didn't have a goal when I first started playing...seriously. I just wanted to level because I...well, like leveling. I didn't have in mind any particular job or rank or anything. I just wanted to keep going on. Also, at the beginning, I really wanted to know the game as best I could, get to a high-level, and show the newbies the basics of the game and help them get started playing. Well, I've since done just that, and I've met some of my best online friends that way. ^^
Well, when I hit 18 with WAR and unlocked my subjob, someone asked me what job I'd have as a main. I asked my PLD mentor at the time which job did the best damage and was told Ranger. I was like "Ok, I'll be a RNG/NIN then!" Somewhere along the way, I got fed up with tanking as a WAR, and noticing that everyone in Valkurm complained about not having a WHM, I changed to a WHM main. I got it to 38 before the invites started slowing down, and I once again got annoyed at my job mainly because...my WHM had crappy Defense and if I ever met an DC or higher, I was a dead Mithra...and WHM's sub-par farming skills.
So, going back to my original goal, I asked around my LS at the time on how expensive RNG/NIN would be. When I was told that I could expect in the later levels to be spending 3-5 stacks of arrows just to get one level...my RNG/NIN dream died that day. No way was I spending gil just to throw it at the mob. So starting from there, I wanted to be a job that 1.) could do great farming, 2.) not be a tank or mage, and 3.) could take a hit or two without worrying about dying. Fortunately, just before I quit WHM, I'd unlocked DRG and had wanted to give it a try.
As for my goals now...well, full DRG Relic would be nice...LOL. As if. As for attainable ones, I think I'll settle for full DRG AF and then strut my stuff around Lower Jeuno for a while.

The only thing i have left to do in this game is get my cooking to 100.
To be honest, i have no idea what I would do after that as leveling post-40 seems like such a chore and i have no other crafts i want to level.

I wanted to learn and see all I could about Vana'diel, to be the equivalent of "Wiseman" from ".hack". That's partly why I keep asking those inane questions about jobs and missions and game history to people.
I am nowhere close to achieving this goal.
Also...the first time I stepped out of Windurst, the first thing I see is someone summoning Ifrit. I KNEW that I wanted to be a summoner, and I decided that I wouldn't gimp that job. My heart may belong to the Order of the White Robes (White Mage), but I seek to be among the stars as a summoner.

Someone my character cares very deeply about lost herself in the Promys and wound up in Lufaise Meadows. I had promised her a while ago on the cliffs on Batallia Downs that no matter what, I would protect her and be there with her. And since my character is a man of his word and of his honor, so he is willing to do whatever it takes to save her.

lol its a long way off still but i want all jobs at 75^^
I want to be a level 75 smn with AF2(Relic?) gear.
At the rate I am going I will have to play for another 3 years though...I don't even know how you get the gear from Dynamis, let alone do a Dynamis.
I have daily conversations with a friend of mine about how much we want to do in the game..all the possibilities. In you "logging out" thread Hip had mentioned the Hall of the Gods (I think)..all the places I still want to see and NM's to fight.
I guess my point is I don't have a "one" thing. I imagine that when it is all said and done, I will be sitting on my couch wondering what else I could have accomplished.

yep same here, and so far im pretty much doing that, cant wait till im a higher lvl (currently 44mnk) so I can really explore the world more.
I wanted to explore. At the time, I was so intent on being either a Nin or a Rng, or even a Drk. I didn't intend to go very far on Rdm. And when I did decide to stick to Rdm, my only real goal had been to have Raise so I could wander the dunes and help people.

way back in the day. when i was a level 1 noob, running around checking out stuff, i saw some japanese character that was level 75.. and from that point on, i wanted to get my blm to level 75..
did that..
Then for some reason, i started to get obsessed with gil and stuff, so i wanted to have 1 million gil one day..
did that..
Then, and then, i remember seeing all these airships flying around, and i could only go on the kazham airship. People then told me that i had to get Rank 5 to get on these airships..
did that..
Then of course there was this place called sky. i really wanted to check it out, but they told me that i had to do some missions from the Zilart expansion.. and i worked on that for a few weeks..
did that..
But now.. my current goal for the game, is to take Goldsmithing to level 100.. It is currently at level 57.0 right now.. and it is basically going at the rate of one level per day.. and thats when i just log on, and start crafting for like 3-4 hours non stop.. I have a few days off in the coming weeks, and plan to just Level the hell out of goldsmithing if i can, and maybe get to level 75 Goldsmithing within a month i guess..

But after i reach that goal.. i will go for my main accomplishment..

When I started, Far before DRK, DRG, SAM, and NIN were brought to the game. Back before ROTZ. My goal was MNK. It was fun, but just a little on the boring side running around trying to EXP with all the JP. So, I stopped for awhile. Made a few measly gil, and waited for The american release. It happened, and ROTZ came out. I played three jobs to 30. MNK, WAR, and WHM. I started getting the other jobs. Played them all, Got DRG.
That's when my goal started. Take Dark Knight to 60(It was level cap before RoTz, I thought it would be the same.) I didn't get DRK very far. So, I started tampering with the other jobs again. Dragoon fell into my lap, and I fell in love with it. That's when the TRUE goal started. Take DRG to 75.
**** happened, The Penta Spam was taken, and people started whining. I quit for about 6 months after level 55. Came back, Started over. Became the assholio supremo.
The game started to be boring, and more work than fun. I kept track of 55 other people. Trying to keep a linkshell alive, and trying to be the only one in my set to try and keep everyone within range of leveling together. So, I just left.
I may come back one day, But that'll be when Hell freezes over.

The one thing I wanted to acheive was to be a summoner with the AF armors, austere stuffs and all avatars. So far thats on hold due to my lack of pc, but I am going to slowly creep back into that goal if I ever get back :)
i had/have pretty high goals.
-Get Sky (on ZM5, that should change this weekend)
-Obtain a Dalmatica
-get BRD and WHM to 70+

When I started the game I wanted to embody the cognitive dissonance of beinga taru melee.
These days, my goal is to be the toughest, nastiest, most baaaaadddddaaaaasssssss Taru Warrior that has every swung-tarued a Great Axe!
