Where you logging out at?Follow

I was talking to Garan the other day...and we got onto the subject of beta testing, and what it must have been like for them.

Well anyway...I remembered a journal that I had seen once before, about someone who posted about their beta experiences. There were a lot of cool stuff, like a video of fighting bloodtear with a full allience of level 50 people, but the thing that had stuck out in my mind was what they all did when SE was going to shut down the beta.

You can find it all here: http://web.mit.edu/afs/net/project/afs32/sipb/user/fastcart/Public/Public/FFXI/

Re-reading it again got me thinking about what I would do if the game ended tomorrow. Pesonally, it is a toss up between going to the Starfall Hillock and going to that little light that is at the bottom of the stairs in Lower Jeuno. Regardless, at either place, I would quietly watch the world fade away and wait until my connection goes down to 0%, sending tells to all my friends, and saying goodbye to my linkshells.

So my question is for all of you out there...if the game was going to end tomorrow, where would you log out at and what would you do before the inevitable happens?

Man i will do anything not to study like read a forum of a game i dont play anymore. I would do the same thing i do when i quit. I would drink poison potion and die in some random place and shut the power off manually(sp). It kind of fits if its the last time your going to be there you might as well leave dead.

My brothers idea for when the game is getting shut down is they should allow mobs into the cities not have any safe zones and when you die its over.

God, I can't pick just one. If it ended tomorrow... here's the short list.

1. Windurst Woods - All things must end where they once began.
2. Altepa Desert - Right next to the ??? for my Relic Axe, which I hoped to have seen.
3. Lufaise Meadows - Outside the opening credits place.

Though I think honestly it would be:

4. Take one million gil, buy a timeless hourglass, and be inside Dynamis-Xarcabard, so my character becomes lost within it forever. If you know the Dynamis tidbits that you hear from Diabolos, you'll know this seems appropriate.

I think i would be in windy woods siting by the foutain with all my friends gathered there for 1 big group photo that i could keep forever as to never forget my friends. We would set off the bigest firework show that anyone has ever seen before we slowly faded off into a new world of games that i would hope to find all my friends haveing fun in. that is where i think i would want to be.

I'd go find Eastern Shadow and try and own his punk-*** before I quit. Seems fitting that I'd lose to him right before I left the game forever.

Then again, the way my luck is I'd kill him and get the drop right as I lost connection.

Switch back to War, get my starting RSE, buy a Onion sword and get back to the gate of Port bastok, where everything started.

OR!

Sanctuary of Zi'tah near those glowing rocks

There are Lots of enjoyable sights in the game, but Sadly, if things come to this, only one can be chosen

This isn't my first MMORPG. I had to quit Helbreath before. IT was the beta and so the game was free. I clearly remember how the game was after they made the annoucement of The End. I also remember the date : Friday, 7th of February 2003. I had a party with my "LS" (guild) friends the day before, we went in the dungeon of Middleland to fight some Liches. I recorded as much as I could on a VHS, and took a ton of screenshots.
After the PT, what I saw was kinda sad. I saw a lot of people "shouting" their farewell to everyone, even a person who dropped his whole high-lvl equip on the ground (in helbreath, what you drop stays on the ground till the server crash or someone takes it) with a bunch of people following him, then he gave his account info and logouted.
Saturday 8th the beta ended. Now you have to pay if you want to play ...

I think I would do the same thing on FFXI. And I would do my last logout in the middle of my friend's group. And assurely, I will ask everyone's IM/mail before leaving ...

Anyway, it would be a huge moment of deep sadness. Hopefully, the game won't end this soon :p

I don't know if you guys know this, but when you're sitting at the gates in Selbina facing north and go to a first-person view, what you see as the sun rises is a light shade of pink that fades to a dark blue, 1 palm tree on your left and right, and the North Star(idk if thats what they call it, but its there).

I can think of no better place to take my last screenshot than in that peaceful setting.

Been thinking of this for awhile, deciding whether I'd just say goodbye a few days early and go play something else.

Here's why...

When I play, that isn't a compilation of pixels and code running around Vana'diel, it's me. I feel transported into another life when I log in. The people I meet and the friends that I have made are as real to me as anything outside the game. The thought of sitting there waiting for the world to end, almost brings me to tears, just as if it was me sitting at home waiting for global destruction to take me and everything I hold dear into oblivion.

There is a book called On The Beach, by Nevil Shute. It tells the tale of the last days of humanity. It's set in the sixties at the height of the Cold War. World War III has happened. Europe, Asia and North America are nuclear wastelands. Those that survived the initial onslaught are slowly being consumed by the radiation. Eventually the entire northern hemisphere is wiped out. Australia, the main focus in the book, has survived the war completely unscathed. Until the news comes...

The radiation cloud is being carried by the global winds as the seasons change and they have 6 weeks before they too will be slowly consumed by radiation sickness. The government hands out cyanide pills to any who wants them. Some people flee south to prolong the inevitable, others stay at home and wait, some commit suicide. It is chillin to read as characters you fall in love with slowly, one by one, meet THE end.

I don't like thinking of the end of this game. To quit and walk away is one thing, to wait for death something entirely different. I think I will go to the one spot that REALLY means something to me. Someone dear to me showed it to me once. Inside Zi'tah there are small, deep pools that radiate light from the crystal formations within them. I think I would go and sit beside one and think back to the time when just the two of us stood there and I gazed into the pool thinking it was the best place to be.

I hope she will be there with me, so I can say goodbye... then I will get up from my chair walk over to my PS2 and press the power button.

I would log out in the same place I did the first time I played this game. In front of the Windurst Woods Auction House, staring at it in frustration and bewilderment at this game XD

I would be in my usual spot.

The heart of the world:

The fountain in Lower Jeuno.
