Okay let me explain this. I work at an internet gaming center in San Diego so I usually bring my home pc here and play, while my roomy leaves his at home. Now we have a 2 megavyte Dsl connection here at work. With the old graphics driver I had I could play with little lag however avatars (Carbuncle, ifrit, ect.) would not fully display. They'd be half there and half not. Now that I have installed Nvidias new graphic driver I can now fully see avatars however whenever an aoe spell is cast my comp lags to high hell. At first I thought it was just the connection at work. However I was talking with my ls friend last night and he was complaining that since the new driver came out and he installed it his computer has been lagging too. Something about the animation being screwed up.
My ls friend has a Geforce fx 5700 256 megabyte card(Ironically enough so does my roommate)
I have a geforce fx 5500 256 megabyte.
Now I that have thought about it I have not really lagged while playing from my roommates computer and he has not installed the new drivers.
The playonline site recommends using the 56.66 driver for final fantasy. So has anyone else experianced this problem since installing the new graphics driver?

my RL friend, who also plays experienced the same thing, so i researched some of the common 'fixes' and rolling back the driver seemed to be the easiest and most common answer. Needless to say, you are not alone in your thinking.

I had the same problem. I have a fx5700LE256. I did these two things and it runs fine now:

1. Set the swap file to a static size.
2. Defragged the computer.

Now it runs fine. I wonder if the new driver takes advantage of DirectX's caching, and or the new driver changes a lot around on the HDD.

I hope this helps you out.
