More PL woesFollow

Hi! First post on here, only because these few people got me mad enough... here's my story.

So I am leveling in the dunes tonight. Friend of a friend is PL'ing us. Now, he is bored, so he figures why not, I'm fine with that. However, after hanging around the dunes for about an hour, I see a shout. Something along the lines of "Need PL will pay 3k per level". Please tell me I'm not the only one seeing a huge problem in this... PL'ing at any point i'm a bit iffy about, only PL I'll take without feeling kinda bad is from friends (like tonight). So I send a a tell to the person shouting, simply saying a PL isn't really that needed. I get a reply of "I have a lvl75 pal I think I know how to play"... okay, that's nice, I was just trying to make a point. 2 of his friends, many comments that would be witty to a 12 year old directed at me, and 3 /blacklist add later, I'm here posting this.

Idea of the story... anyone else afraid PL'ing will be a costly part of the game soon for many people (Remember rushes for [insert item] in D2?), and boost more noobs (I hate that word) to the upper tiers of players level wise? Discuss.

Offtopic: What I wanna know is.. if he's a level 75 PLD, why would he bother shouting for a PL? You'd think he'd know people he could ask....

I smell *********

Ontopic: I'll keep this short and sweet. I hate powerlevelling. I hate being powerlevelled. I think it is the biggest waste of time ever. And I think no good can come of it.

PL'ing is like abortion. You're going to have 10 different people with 10 different opinions going at it on this one. I can go back and forth with this one...

My main is high level. I'm just leveling this job cause I'm bored. I want a PL to get out of the Dunes faster cause I really hate it here. I can get a PL, cause I already know what I'm doing. I'm not loosing out of the learning process from doing things the hard way...

But what about the others in the party? They might not be as experienced as you are.

But it's the WHM's right to earn money how he can, if that's some lvl 10 DRK who wants to pay 15k an hour to get PL'd somewhere, who am I to stop him?

Overall, I'll just say... Have I been PL'ed before? Yes. I was a lvl 10 SMN. I leveled SMN to sub to WHM to level to 25 to camp coffer chests as THF. The party was fun. The WHM got to catch up on Divine and Enfeeble... I got to skill club and staff. The NIN got to level Great Katana. Everything you wouldn't normally see, cause it's just plain ineffective, we did. And we had fun. After all, that's why I play...

even saying that he had pld at 75, doesnt mean that he is skilled at the job he was leveling atm he did that shout. I think now it's becoming more and more common in the dunes to get a pt with a pl, of course leveling is great you can chain like crazy and often the PLer is a friend of someone in the pt and he wants to help him, but it's a bother imo. Oh and what is getting worst now? PL services at Playerauctions -_-; A coworker was browsing this site, he found it hilarious but i didnt >< where's the strategy in there if you're only hitting the mob while being healed? =(

PL all you want. I am tired of the "PL'ing makes you retarded" arguments. I've seen retarded level 75 doing stupidest acts in raids. Retarded ppl are retarded no matter what level. Smart and brilliant newbies will just learn how to play elsewhere even if they did get a few PL here and there.

Final thoughts. PL does not lower your IQ.

yeah, i dont mind pling friend, but if i get this constant tell asking me "i need pl, when can you pl me?" that goes not only once but a load of it, then plus that he determines when i can pl him, not me who determines when i can pl him, since he said he gonna pay me, i dont need to get paid to pling friend but as I'm busy doing alot of stuffs with LS i really not sure when can I help him, tho I dont mind pling him.

The trend I noticed when I leveled my blm through the dunes about a month ago was, I'd actually had people decline a party invite because we didn't have a power leveler. What is that?

Just two days ago I was in Valkurm on my rdm(59) on my way to Gustav with a party and hopped off my trusty choco to give some poor ninja a raise that I saw was dead. Their party leader sends me a message "thx, wanna plvl us?"

/think
tempting... but no

Powerleveling begets powerleveling it seems.

Side note: I've powerleveled friends before, and probably will again somewhere down the line. Though my approach to powerleveling is more like a back up healer and agro management to help allow for more chaining. I prefer the tank to provoke, the healer to heal, the blm to nuke, etc.

in most ways i'm still a new player, as my highest job is only WHM 34 atm. i have four other jobs at 20, including PLD, so i have seen the dunes, and the stark face of the PL issue, many times.

as 32 WHM the other day, i was invited to a pt in east altepa. cool, i said, a real pt at last. i had snuck out to rabao at lvl 25 (after getting invisible to get past the gigas in korroloka), so i had my gate crystal. i spent my last gils on food and a teleport, only to find that the pt i was joining was a ragtag assortment of DD accompianied by a lvl 70+ taru RDM on /anon. i asked in /say what the point of my being there was, and could i do my job, please? i got no response and the RDM continued to tank/heal.

/partycmd breakup
/seacom 3 I will not party with PL. {Thank You.}
/sit
/invite

later that day, i get another /tell from the same pt leader asking if i want a pt at east altepa.

/tell ptleader no.

i get a tell a few mins later from a NIN tank i had pt with in kahzam, would i like to pt at east altep? ok, i say, are you with that other ptleader? yes, she says, i am in that pt. ok, i say, since you are tanking and no PL, i will be healer. pt before with this NIN was a really good time, like a JP party where we pt for several hours, and breakup after someone says {i'm sleepy} - then we check and two ppl are 800 tnl, so we get that xp and {disband}. i get to altep, the NIN disbands, i tell ptleader i'm not leaving, let's build a pt. so we do. it rocks. we are getting chain 4 on beetles for 125-150 xp everytime and having no downtime. we only have to stop when we run out of mobs. the bard, at lvl 32 is asking us if we can find better xp than that. is this normal xp for us? so we take a dhamel, at request for better xp. at this level it hits for about 100 on our PLD, and i have to use all of my MP and half of the BLM mp to keep him alive. five minutes resting MP, but 250 xp. we could have had 4 X 125 xp in that time doing beetles. and still been chaining.

my point in this story is that people who play the first 30 levels with a PL holding their hand have no idea what good experience looks like at any particular lvl. they get used to chain 6 250 xp with a PL and think that getting 184 is somehow gimped in {Garliage Citadel} with a WAR/MNK for a tank. i'm sorry, but given our poor excuse for a tank, who should have been a perfect DD to a PLD or NIN, 184 on chain 1 before downtime was the best we were going to get.

all i can say at this level is: if you can do better soloing EM go ahead.

i have pt'd with a PL in all of my jobs, and everytime i've had to quit, with one exception. that exception was with a lvl 70 RDM when i was leveling WAR/MNK. i was able to hold the hate off of her in the dunes, and the fact that i could do so meant incredible skillups and unending chains. i see the appeal here for DD class to be PL'd. still i think it's a bad idea, and i will no longer participate.

that's my two gil. sorry it was so long.

Yeah you can make that argument. But then you have these situations that are occuring more often than they should:

Out of the last seven dunes parties I've been in, six of them had a powerleveler. S I X. The seventh didn't simply because the leader couldn't find one (but he tried. oh he tried).

I've made an entirely separate topic about my feelings on this subject, but I'll summarize it into this:

I'm getting sick and tired of partying with morons who have had their hands held all the way through the game. And I'm getting tired of having parties expect powerlevelers. Even in Kazham they expect PLs! It's just plain ridiculous. People are starting to refuse invites without one.

Now tell me there's no detrimental effect.
