Ok.. as many of you may or may not know, but I play this game a lot.. I have wierd working hours, and well.. no life heh. So when I go to login this afternoon for some good old fashioned killing.. I am SHOCKED to discover that I am getting the "Incorrect POL ID or password" message. Now.. I have NEVER given my password to anyone.. EVER period. So I of course am a bit concerned by this, so I contact POL via webchat. After waiting about half an hour I finally get through to somone... so they rest my POL password and I login to make sure it works. Yep, I'm in.
Stupid me just says.. ok.. I'll let them go because if anything is missing they aren't going to reimburse me for anything.. I know this, and they know this. So I go to select a character, and just happen to notice the "Create a Character" section can be clicked.. "Odd" I think. I continue on to the select a character screen and my heart drops. I had four characters... Jadennyte (the most well known) Flourite (the taru WHM), Fayina (a mule), and Jaiden (one that I JUST created about 5am this morning). Well guess what boys and girls... ALL of the characters except Jadennyte were GONE. Yes.. let me say that again.. GONE...
So now I am waiting once again for POL on webchat.. and I have come to a decision... if they don't get all 3 of my characters back AND the well over a million gil worth of items and equipment they had... I'm done. I'm going to cancel my account on the spot. I don't need this, and I worked damn hard for everything I had. So everyone.. Watch out.. it could be you next

Have you scanned your computer for a keystroke logger spyware/virus recently?
While I don't think many people would use those programs for POL stealing (they are instead mostly used to record credit/debit card numbers and PINs and/or email address' and passwords), it is possible.
If you don't have either, I would recommend "SpyBot: Search and Destroy" at:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
Its free, and has the backing of "The Screen Savers" crew as one of the best downloads/spyware removal tools on the internet. And no, I don't mean the bad TSS crew now, I am talking about when the show was GOOD.
Also, an excellant free online virus checker program can be found at:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Just do the free online scan there.
And listen...
If you can't get your stuff back, you are more than welcome to the gil that I have, and can easily scrounge up in order to replace what you have lost. Its no small token amount (well for a lvl 55 whm at least), so it should helpfully give you a boost.

Just curious but have you recently installed any windowers or upgraded to a newer version?
I have spy bot, there is nothing on my computer.. I thought of that too.. now I started thinking about it.. I don't think it was done by omeone to be honest.. I think it was a glitch or somethign because Jadennyte was still up.. and the Och Kotes I have are still there.. if someone wanted to be an *** they would have taken those for sure.

If your most valuable items are still on you, then it's likely not someone who stole your account to steal your money. Otherwise, I'd think they'd have done it. It could be a server hiccup or something. I mean hell, look back at some of their recent updates. Count how many emergency maintenances we've had and how many fatal errors and how many Unable to connect errors...We have them virtually every time. To me it seems like they don't even use their test server.
Yes I'm a bit jaded. I sent no fewer than 11 emails to their customer support when their one update disallowed certain routers to connect to PS2 versions, only to constantly receive the *same exact* advice after clearly telling them at least four or five times that I already did that suggestion...and then getting the final response "Please call Sony" (and they completely stopped replying after that point) only to have Sony say "Call SquareEnix." ...yeah, I lost all faith in their customer support that day and I was ready to quit. Fortunately I solved the problem myself, I just replaced the network adapter and totally reformatted the HDD. I shouldn't have had to. God help them if it happens again, I have all the emails saved to disk and floppy disk.
Ahem. Uh, sorry. Anyways. Make sure you squeeze every ounce of info out of them. They avoid questions, they change subjects, and they try to use fancy words. Explain the situation, demand explanations, and save the conversation. Then cross your fingers. I hope you can get your characters back.

Well here is the update.. they are restoring my characters.. they "supposedly" will have all of their equipment and mog house stuff... but I love everything in my delivery and my Auctions.. about 500k + in gil *sighs* They said it will take about a week to get them back...
I didn't even know this happened, Jaden.
I'm glad that they're restoring your characters. Even if you lose what's on the AH, at least you have your hours spent crafting and gardening or whatnot back.

I think they backup the servers data whenever they can, in case of a "rollback", so they can restore the "old" data if the current data is corrupted or lost. Maybe that you'll get your chars back with 2-3 hours lost ... Anyway, the most important thing is that you'll get them back :p. It's a bit frightening to see that things like that can happen, though ... Imagine your Lv75 char you played for 2 years ... lost ... Arg <_<

It's great you got your chars back. I wouldn't imagine them not being able to restore them, seeing as a deleted character stays on server for 3 months. If someone intentionally deleted them to be a jerk, all the equip would be there on restoration. If it was a server glitch, then I would hope they do periodic backups of information in case of a massive crash.
As for lost delivery/ah, it sucks, but in comparison to what you thought you lost? I'd say it's a decent concession. Just make sure all those people that promised you gil pay up! j/k

Ugh! WTF!? By chance does ANYONE else know your login ID and password? Does anyone know you well enough to know a general password you might use? Is it a general password? Who else has access to the machine?
Also check to make sure they were not deactivated, I had that happen once and I had to go reactive them in the content ID area...

Well everyone.. as of this morning all of my characters are back.. I still lost everything at the AH and in the delivery boxes, but as far as I can tell.. they still have all the equiment and the storage stuff. I just wanted to take a second and thank everyone for their outpouring of support. All the /tells I got and people sending me gifts to raise my spiritsw really touched me. I would also like to thank the entire HipnotikNation, without them I would have just folded up and quit this game after the incident. Much love goes to those guys... for those that sent monetary support I WILL be sending you back the gil, once I have the means again. Thanks everyone.. you have restored a lot of faith in the people of this game that I had once lost.
