Fraps: Need some helpFollow

#1 Feb 25 2005 at 8:58 AM Rating: Good
So, if you read these boards with any frequency you would have seen my post a while back about my new PC (and how I managed to fry it). It's back up and running and I wanted to use Fraps for my screenshots as the in game screen shots are way too small.

Downloaded Fraps from their website and installed it. Restarted my PC and verified it was running in the system tray. Started up FFXI and nothing. No fps overlay displayed, no screenies when I hit the hot keys.

Anything I can check to see if I'm doing something wrong?

Doesn't Fraps also require you to be running the windower?

Nope.

Win, check and make sure you have your hotkeys enabled, and make sure that hotkey isn't also in use by some other application, ie a hotkey press-to-talk for Ventrilo, or one of the routinely used buttons that also serve as hotkeys in your various day-to-day applications. I can't see why there would be any overwriting of the hotkeys in this instance, but it's entirely possible that one program takes precendence over fraps and overrides the hotkeys.

Isn't it supposed to be running right when you start FFXI? Like you should see your fps in the top left corner or something even without hitting the hot keys?

I have F9 as my movie hotkey and F10 as my screenshot hot key. I don't have many apps running when my PC starts (I regularly use msconfig to limit the programs at start up, I hate it when my PC takes too long to load windows) so I don't imagine that these 2 would get in the way. What do you guys use for your hotkeys?

Win, you don't happen to be using a Logitech Internet Navigator keyboard with the F-lock function, do you?

No, my KB is a cheap *** (Walmart) wireless with optical mouse. I can tell my F keys are working when the game is on because if I'm in a party I can use the F keys to select players in the party.

It's a tad frustrating because I had it working once but now it's not and I'm not sure what I did the last time that worked that isn't working this time.

Last time it was working whenever the FFXI screen would come up the fps overlay would start there, not while it was in POL.

I do. And I have been trying to get Fraps to behave also.
Is there something odd with this keyboard besides making sure F-Lock is on?

Hmm. Talk to me about it in static tonight. I have it running with no problems.

Will do Cat. Maybe we can compare settings.

Would video card drivers make a difference? I'm pretty sure my drivers are up to date but who knows.

Shouldn't make a huge difference. Do you have the registered version or just the trial?

I'm curious if this worked, because I am having the same problems as you. ; ;

Well I did 2 things.

1) Ran DXDiag for DirectX and just ran all of the tests it could perform.

2) Unstalled the trial version and installed the full version. I'll try uninstalling the full version tonight and reinstalling the trial and see if it still works.

I believe my hot keys are Scroll lock, Home, and Insert, and it's working now.
