Stupid Update!!! ><Follow

#1 Feb 23 2005 at 7:56 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, Since 4 o' clock today after mantiance, I thought about the whole update, thinking how cool its gonna be. So I turn on my PS2, so on. Connect to Playonline ect. I reach the FFXI page, I hit play. Then it does the update thingy. My brother said it was only gonna be like 30-45 mins long, so I thought I can check it out fast. Then, when it gets to the downloading files it tells me that its 3 and a half hours long. ><. And I was like "Crap!" So, we wait and wait its going really slooowlyIt gets to like 40% done, and it stops, doesn't contiue. Just stops. So, for me, the update is almost 5 hours long ><.

The whole point of this thread was to see if anyone else had this problem. =P

Well, I'm also on PS2 and update only took me about an hour and a half. Maybe it's your connection?

I'm 4 hours in with 400 files left. >_< I'm on broadband. Given the time elapsed, time remaining, and reported size of the download (32MB per SE), I calculated that I was getting 3.2KB/sec. Nice.

Mine was very close to done, then stopped completely. Now I only have to install the files that I didn't get, so it started me with only 371 files to do. Only 20 more minutes...

Yeah, that's what mine has done a couple times, too. I don't remember previous updates doing that. Maybe that was changed in the recent POL viewer update.

Guys. It's only because EVERYONE is downloading the update as soon as possible. Huge bandwith being used.

I'm probobly not even going to log back in until the weekend, seeing as I'm taking a break, so mine probobly wont take too long. Everyone will have it already.

I think this is the first update I went through in which I wasn't a victim. Entire process took less than 30 minutes. I have broadband, and did it on PS2 (haven't downloaded it on PC yet, but I'll let you know if anything "interesting" happens when I do).

I started the download between 2:30 and 3:00 when the "Check Version" button appeared. So I probably missed the gigantic swoth of people swamping the server (pardon my tongue twister).

You guys aren't alone though, couple hours ago there was at least 5 or 6 rant threads on GameFAQs about the whole "Freezing" issue.

Personally, I think SE needs servers with much bigger bandwidth. >_> Then again that'd probably jack up monthly fee. Um, no nevermind! /runaway

Yeah, I've downloaded an update or two before, though, and I've always experienced bandwidth of significantly more than 3.2KB/sec. Maybe I just got lucky in the past, who knows.

Yes, I think this is just unusual for an update. It has taken much longer than in the past.

For the record, I finished in 4 hours 48 minutes. After some number crunching, that's an average of 1.9KBps.

A 14.4 modem provides 1.8KBps.

Did this thread get camped or what? I can't think of a more asanine use of someone's time than to karma camp a thread discussing speeds people are getting when downloading an update.

Counter-troll rate-ups to everyone.

EDIT: WTH...all my rate-ups for the rest of the posters in this thread just got negated by these damn trolls... -.- I maintain that you trolls are asanine.

I was under the impression that playonline nerfed everyones connection to be the same, so that there wasnt a flood of pc user before ps2 were even finished, guess that theory just went out the window.
