im looking to buy a new video card atm. My old as geforce fx 5200 plays the game but it looks really crappy. My local computer store has a geforce fx 5500 256s in stock and they are only $90. Does anyone have any experiance with this card as far as Final fantasy/ counter strike go?
My roomy has a fx 5700 256 in his comp and it runs FF beautifully. Unfortunatly my local computer store no longer carries these. I'd like something that displays as well as this card does or maybe better if its possible given the money Im willing to spend. Oh yeah Im will to spend $150 on a new card.
Since this computer is primarily used for final fantasy I thought I'd ask around on the forums and see what other FF players use or would recommend.

I was seriously going to buy this card before I wound up selling some stuff to buy a 6800GT

For about $180 you can get the 6600GT which you can "unlock" and OC to perform pretty similar to a 6800. Even if you dont want to OC, it's still a snazzy card for the price.

I'm using a Radeon 9600 (XT I think. Some two letter prefix.) and it runs FFXI and Countstrike: Source absolutely wonderfully. I've got full everything except weather effects up with FFXI and don't get any lag.

I got the card for Christmas, so I'm not sure the price, but I think it was around 150$.

Also, while shopping around for a card, make sure your computer has an AGP or PCI port. If you buy a video card that uses AGP and you've got PCI, then you'll have to return it and buy an AGP one. PCI cards are universally cheaper than AGP, so be careful about that.

Finally bought that new card.
I did wind up getting the FX5500 256 meg one. Gotta say for the money I spent the game ran wonderfully. My buddy went with me to buy the card. I was gonna get the fx 5700 but they appearently no longer sell this card. Itsnot even listed on their website anymore. Wierd sell the 5500 but not the 5700? Well at any rate i slapped the card in booted the computer up turned up the ff graphics and wham! I got the character selection screen and wanted to cry. My character looked so smooth not all pixelated like on the 5200. I logged in ran around a little bit. No lag. I decided to fight a few things and see what happened. Stompped a few gobs and stroper. (Yes Im in ordells caves camping the stroper chyme, I need gil!) No lag I was greatly impressed.
Loaded up Counter strike and as was to be expected It ran just fine. Loaded up ESF ran fine. Then I loaded up ROSE online and its ran a little smoother. I think its safe to recommend this card. I got a 1 year warrenty on the card and if you goto the evga website and register your card with them you get an additional year long warrenty on the card. So I got a 2 year warrenty on the card. Im happy. Oh yeah the card cost me $95 dollars. Great card for the amount of money i spent.
