It's funny that I want to plan a real life event given that my experience with in-game events is that everyone says they'll come and no one does, but... here I am. Some of my friends in-game and I have been bandying about the idea of organizing a convention of sorts for the entirety of the Bismarck server. At first we were thinking big - a little too big - and wanted to have it in Las Vegas. Then we realized that would never happen. So now we're thinking a little smaller, and setting our sights on Atlantic City, sometime, most likely, in August.

Right now, I'm looking to get a preliminary count of how many people would turn up if we do this. I don't have any idea of what a price range would be, but based on how many people would be interested, I will be calling hotels and finding out what we can get for group rates, as well as trying to reserve conference rooms and what have you so it's really a convention and not just random people dropping in and going off to casinos. And of course, we'll have plenty planned to do for people who aren't of age or just aren't interested in what AC has to offer. The primary goal is to get everyone together to have fun, which we could really do in someone's house if we wanted to, but... why would we want to?

If you think you would be interested in this, please post here and let me know. If you're speaking up for more than one person, please tell me how many people you're putting in for. There is no definite date set, and no definite price either. I really need an idea of how many people would be interested before I can start finding out these things. If you're interested provided the cost stays under a certain amount, again, let me know and I'll try to keep those numbers in mind when I start calling around.

If you aren't interested and/or think this is the dumbest idea EVAR, keep it to yourself. You obviously won't be coming, so I don't care what you think. This is for me to get an idea of how many people are coming, not how many people are assholes, since I already have a good idea of that number.

If you have questions or suggestions or anything constructive, please, feel free to speak up, as this is only the beginning of an idea and needs some shaping.

Please spread the word to people who don't read the forums. Feel free to post a link in your linkshell's forums, on other site's boards, etc. You can even feel free to shout it in Jeuno, but... well, I wouldn't.

Byaina...if you are going to go do this, why not see if SE would be willing to support it? Usually, corporations will support this sort of gathering if you can prove that you are serious about it, and that a fair amount of people will show up. After all, its free advertisement for them and the game.

Have you checked the latest SE Tour thing that was mentioned in a recent POL message/email? You could try to plan around that too^^.

I have a trip abroad that I am currently saving for, and will most likely still be saving for it by the time your event comes around. But if I can spare the gil...er...money... I'll try to come.

But if you need any help planning, please ask. I have fun doing this sort of thing^^.

I have been thinking about this exact same thing, though I was just thinking somewhere more central on the east coast...but hey I cant have everything eh?

SE is doing their tour thingy, but they wont let us know where and when.

I'm definetly interested, but I will have to plan a good bit ahead...probably take a day or 2 off of work.

Okay, I will say this: I am more than open to suggestions of alternate places to have the convention, however, please do keep in mind that we are trying to keep the costs down, so someplace like Disney World would be completely out of the question.

I was thinking maybe Charlotte, Nashville or something closer to the middle it would be less stressful if people from Fla etc. wanted to join in, though I live in SC and this is making me feel kinda greedy, just by suggesting it.

I'm not sure on the where the mass of people on Bismarck are from though I'd assume just by population per capita there is more players in New England then down south. So you might actually get a better turnout by having it closer.

Otakon is in late August, I seem to recall hearing that a few people from Bismarck went last year. I've gone the past 2 years, so maybe I'll see a few people.

By the way, the Borgata and the new Tropicana expansion (havana nights i believe it's called) is the best new spots to go to.

no print out two 6"x3' pieces of paper with your name with a pearl drawn next to it. Grab a piece of card board and also cut it 6"x3', now stick each piece of paper on both sides. Use a metal clothes hanger and straighten the hook. Stick the cardboard at the end of the piece of cardboard, stick the clothes hanger on the backside of your shirt. Now you may sport you name and pearl color over your head. Enjoy.

I am still leaning towards AC until someone comes up with another, possibly more viable idea. For those on the West Coast who can't make it all the way out here, maybe we could schedule a simul-convention?

And yeah, I'm thinking people should have the nametags of their in-game characters. I mean, if I walked around with my real name on there's like 2 people who would know who I am. Plus people can retain a modicum of anonymity that way.

Anyone spreading the word yet?

edit: Yay, I love getting karma trolled for trying to do NICE things.

I have been a part of the planning for 2 different occasions where we had people from an MMORPG coming to some location, just as some advice, like 40 people will tell you they are coming, then 10 will show up lol. Also, if you are going to get a room or something, it's going to cost you, have people send you a "registration" ahead of time. Unless of course you are pretty well off.

I don't think I'd be able to make it though I'd love to meet and talk to the faces behind the names, all the ingame/message board BS dies pretty quick and people want to get to know each other, it's really fun. Too much crap going on this year tho ><

Anyways, GL on it.

Ha tweed, I'm used to people pulling that shit just from trying to plan in-game events. That's why people are giving me money UP FRONT if they want to come.

Since I really have no idea what I'm doing, any chance you'd be willing to answer questions I have about putting this together?

I'm in. East Coast would be nice, though that's only because many folks I know in game range from south FL to Quebec.

Anyways, sounds fun, Byaina

Naeo, aren't you a little young for Atlantic City?

And since I live down the road from By, I guess I don't have much excuse to not come >.>

Or we can all just have one big party at my house.

Well, if Naeo is going, and Ray is going, and AC is pratically in my backyard....

I guess I'll have to make an appearance as well. ^^
