Game hacks and Today I quit.Follow

#1 Feb 05 2005 at 11:11 AM Rating: Decent
So it seems that there are new game hacks for FFXI in which are being distributed via paid subsciption. This ultimately means FFXI like its most MMORGP that have came and gone is now entering the phase in which people distinctively have unfair advantage.
What is your opinion on this?
Current examples of hacks known are:
Warp, Widescan, monster.dat Xp code modifiers, Raw Widescan which allows user to view and track spawn rates on chests, coffers, mining/logging points.

There are probably more.. /sigh Bye bye FFXI, going onto my shelf next to PSO and AC2.

I didn't know about those game hacks, but I'm sure Square-Enix is aware of them. I'm sure they will fix the problem, then do something about the people who are bringing them up to ruin the game for people who have put their time into it.

My opinion on hacking is that there are hacks in every game. I don't choose games based on whether or not they are hack-free. I choose them based on how much fun I have when I play them. If other people are having a good time putting their account at risk by hacking files, then let them have a good time. I have a good time by actually playing and accomplishing things in the game, so that's what I do. I've never played an online game that didn't have hacks, and I probably never will. Games will always be hacked/exploited by some people. It doesn't matter if SE "fixes" the hacks or not. They will come up with new ones eventually. Where there's a will there's a way.

I agree, I play this game for fun for the most part.

It is frustrating when people cheat however.

I'm curious where you found this info on hacks? Can anyone verify this?

Well, on Diablo, on OPEN servers, you were playing with your char who was on YOUR computer, and there are nothing easier than opening your char file and changing your HP to 999999. On the CLOSE (forgot the name actually) servers, you were playing with your char who was on the SERVER comp, and it's way much difficult to hack Blizzard than to hack "yourself" ... Same with FFXI, and other MMORPGs : You can "hack" the packets you send/receive, but not the files themselves (server-sided files), so you "can't" hack your char stats/items/etc ... but you can the way the game is displayed (client-sided files) and the packets you send/receive -

Anyway, it's still difficult to get these hacks working, and SE can still change the game files to kill these hacks, and can ban the hackers. On Diablo, there weren't any updates, so you crate a hack, it will always work ...

Just curious (apologies for not being from this server, but saw the topic in the server forum list and couldn't resist), but do you actually have firsthand knowledge of these hacks, have you used them or seen them used? A lot of what you describe sounds suspect, in that although I can't say for certain, I'm very confident that SE is smart enough to not have clients perform the XP assignments, that's a server-side thing. Same with widescan and such, I would imagine the servers only tell the client about a monster's presence when it's relevant, to cut down on excess data being sent. It might be possible I suppose though for a fake widescan query to be sent though.

But either way, I'm going to have to call BS until something to back up these claims shows up.

Hmm.

Could it be any more true? I left Diablo II for this game because well...it had better Graphics, and from what I heard no cheaters and/or way to cheat...

If it becomes another Diablo II I'm done with online-video games...

who on earth has been on FFXI with hacks? I don't recall ever having seen anyone who appeared to be on any 'enhancements'. What would these hacks do, exactly? (FYI, I DON'T want to know where they originated, where I can get them etc.)

I know 2 of these and they aren't hacks at least not into the servers.
Mining/Logging is done through Botts simple enough. You use a Program to run Scripts while you play the game.(AutoIT is a common one) Same trick that has and is being used on Fishing all you do is you just leave your bot spamming on 1 given point.

As to the Mob.dat Hacking, its removing the file so that said mob won't get in the way of you spamming a voke macro or your voke bot.(it makes the mob seem like its not there so you can't target it >.>) (this was released recently through another post and i guess there isn't too much SE can do to stop this aside from running a File Scan before it lets you play which would waste too much time for the good it would do.)

As to the rest well i have only heard rumors and the main rumor is that the XP mod only works until 50 since that is the first genkai that needs to be done its supposed to affect you xp diferrently. But again just a big rumor that was spread to explain how the Gil Sellers can get to lvl 50 so quickly.
For WideScan uncapped the rumor is basically you send the server the info saying that you are 75 so you would have a full Widescan for most maps. And Again another Rumor probably thought up to reason as to why X player always lost to Y player on mobs when they were so much farther away.

Edit: haha before i get in trouble, I don't use any of these since it kills the fun to be had by the original Gameplay Idea behind given events.
