I'm pretty forgiving of most 'unnecessary' threads. So it's been posted before, oh well... and irrelevancy really is the spice of life, so I don't mind that kind of thread either.
In biological-theoreticism threads discussing neural-tube growth and consciousness, ok, maybe it's good to follow all the rules. But come on, this is a video game for crying out loud. ;)
I do have *MAJOR* issues with the recent spate of 'this guy sucks' 'that guy sucks' threads though. I haven't said anything up to now, but it's late, I haven't slept and this has been brewing forever.
There's no lower impulse that a man has than the temptation to join in with a mob against one single person. When everyone is throwing rocks, there's a degree of anonymity and participation in picking up a rock and letting it fly too. The group is tighter, in its rejection of a single member of the group.
We've all been through high school, right? Well, in any social environment, even a game, there has to be the nerds' table; there have to be those people that don't fit in, for one reason or another.
But having spent my time at the nerds' table, there's nothing I hate more than a gangbang. Infamouskiller and Beatdown are the latest whipping posts, but if you look at the landslide of opinion when it came to these two people, the same thing could happen to any of us given a sufficient number of bad days in the proximity of Alla posters.
One person posts that he doesn't like someone. Another person posts. A third. And it's fair to say that *probably* most of these people did have personal run-ins with the people mentioned, but those threads got completely out of control; I recall one person posting and falling over him/herself in gratitude because Infamouskiller had invited him/her to a party, and was declined.
'These threads do work!'
Well, it's nice to see the threads working while they're munching up someone else's reputation, and ruining the game for that person. But it's pretty easy for something like that to happen to anyone under the right circumstances.
Sometimes, 'bad player' mentions are warranted, I'm not arguing that. It wasn't the fact that someone had a bad opinion that got to me, it was the lynch-mob quality of the threads after a while.
I partied with Beatdown, and again, he was not a terrible PLD. I've partied with good and bad, just like you guys have, and I can only remember one or two players that I would refuse to party with again. Beatdown wasn't one of them, and he got set up in these threads like Satan himself in the form of a digital Hume.
I anticipate the rate-downs for this, but it's been in the back of my mind for a long time now. It was kind of disappointing to see how hard that witch-hunt rode once it got going.
Let the irrelevancy stay, who cares about the double posts or the previously asked questions; but those 'Bob sucks and don't party with him!' threads have got to go.
