Fanboys?? Man.. what are those beacuse I'm not too sure what that means exactly. Is it those fools who go to that creepy cosplay convention type of deal? Cause if so.. then beening a fanboy ain't nothing to be aproud of you dig? Please someone tell me that I'm wrong on what a fanboy is?

Okay, I feel I must correct this... The term 'fanboy' refers to anyone who likes something to an extreme. There are numerous 'fanboys' though you will not always hear them called by this term. You are refering to what the japanese call an otaku. While we in the states have changed the meaning of this term to mean a fan of anime, manga, etc. The japanese call people who are obsessive, have poor hygenie, and tend towards general pervertedness otaku.

Now on another note...I love going to anime cons. I get to hang out with my friends, play card games, board games, video games, watch some anime I haven't seen, take pictures of good costumes and even cosplay as my favorite characters. Being a japanese styled otaku is nothing to be proud of...but being a fanboy or an American styled otaku...well long live those of us who gather to enjoy a common bond!

^^

Oh ok I got you. A fanboy is someone that is like hyper obssesive over anything. Ok I feel that. Interesting. Still that anime con thing you go has to have some whom fit under that title. Don't lie.. you know you seen some.

The statistic I would still love to see is the one that shows how many players are unknowingly in woman-woman, man-man relationships. ;-)

roflmfao. Yes. Yes.

I know of a couple going on right now. I'm guilty, I'm so evil you know, but I'm having way too much fun watching it all go on. ~.^
One day it will be like "Oh, my darling...please send a picture."
"Ok love, anything for you."

LOL yeah. I had a male hume RDM for awhile on Alexander who apparently had a female player who was quite interested in him (what can I say, girls make the perfect man). I played along since it wasn't my main, and I was leaving the server soon anyway.

Did I feel a bit dirty? Yes. Did I feel guilty? A bit. Was it fun? Yep!

I sent her some of my gear as a "goodbye" gift along with an air rider to remember our "special times." I'm such a sap!

Oh yes there are...SOME?! HA!? How about Sailor Fat Guy, Guy Lum, Guy Faye and the Dirty Old Photographer...lol I however don't associate with those people...lol But then again all forms and areas of fandom have these people, so...

Actually by fanboy, i meant the type that is closer to the Japanese styled otaku, the type with acne, typically over weight, low self esteem, lower confidence, sometimes has asthma, never talks to women face to face. I apologize if i step on anyone feelings by saying this, but I have met many players who meet this description, and I have met many who do not. I suppose what I was really getting at is the type of guy who would rather use this game and his relationships in it as a way to escape a reality they are not too thrilled with.

Wow about those feelings not being hurt.. I'm sorry but with that description you may have given face to alot of guys who play this game. Ha ha and a few guys I'm sorry to say gave me a good scare and laugh when I was in highschool. When you mentioned the whole woman thing it was nostalgia all over again.
Memories.. Hey I'm scholar now.. hola!

Hi, I just had to reply to this.
I got married in game last month, and I think that there is another reason that some people have failed to mention.
The reason that I got married was basically because we were very good friends, and when we got married, it was kind of a "friend" thing. I guess it's hard to explain, but some in-game couples don't get married to "take it to the next level"

We still have some /emotes for whenever we meet, such as
/em blows <t> Elvaan kisses

And things like that, but I think that one of the best in-game relationships is one where the people are very good friends and still remain that way.
I can see why some people would think,
"It's a game, people who get married in it are freaks," etc.
But seriously, yes it is a game, and I agree that in role-playing games, it would be obvious that you would want your charector to get married.

Blah, well, that's just my 2 cents =/

*edit*
Also, I noticed some quotes from the ceremony that I think I should share.
In the ceremony, it talked about how we are supposed to protect eachother, fend off enemies, be there for eachother in times of need.
So, marriage in-game isn't just out of attraction for the other charector.

Indeed Aerweny, some people in here marry out of a deep bond of friendship. Myself? That would be the reason I would marry. However, you have to remember, I was not knocking ingame marriage. Merely trying to figure out why it is that some people can actually fall in love in here. In my experience, there are four reasons why people wed in Final Fantasy.
1. Because the people getting married are close friends who want to use the marriage as a symbol of their friendship.
2. Because the couple has actually grown to love one another in some way over the internet. Naturally, marriage follows.*
3. Because the couple is already together IRL, either married or boyfriend and girlfriend, and they want it to be the same ingame.
4. This is my least favorite reason for ingame marriage, but there are some, particularly "fanboys" like I mentioned in a previous post, who marry for status. You will notice that nearly any woman who plays FFXI that has gotten past level 40 is taken. Simply put most of the fanboys in this game will propose to any and every girl in here they encounter. Getting married ingame is by far easier than maintaining a real life working relationship.

Well, if I forgot any other reasons people marry, please feel free to add some more.
*This is actually the scenario that is least likely to end in marriage. Relationships like this commonly end before the wedding because they prove to be quite stressful at times.

I'm sorry. No on sceond thought I'm not. That whole in game marriage thing is still creepy on any level. Its one thing if you tow know each other. Let me clarify by "know". As in you seen this person in real life not talk to them through this game and assume whom they are. That's my two cents..not what my two gil.
