Double fishing query.. againFollow

#1 Feb 02 2005 at 12:12 PM Rating: Decent
I have a tendency to ask like two questions in the threads I put up sorry... First is soon I'm going to have a fishing skill of 30 and I would like to know what is the next cash cow for me.. moat carps are ok for now.. but.. well you know.. I need better. Second is the whole 10,000 moat carps thing for the LuShang rod. what I like to know is the best and fastest way for me to obtain this great example of a great fisherman... and is it in the long run better to sell it for 4 million gil?? I would like to fish in SSG but.. with no Lu rod its kinda hard..

At 30, Moat Carps will be your best bet for a while. Once you get towards 50 many more options will open up.

The best way to get that rod is either to build up the cash doing whatever you do, and buy all the Moat Carp; or you can buckle down, get a pot of coffee going, and get ready to start fishing.

Or you could buy mine on the AH right now! But I suppose your not interested in that ;)

I'm selling mine because I don't have as much as time to fish as I would like, Lu Shang can still make great money, but I don't really have a lot of time to fish, so it's usually just sitting in my MH.

If you're going for a Lu's, my opinion is your best bet is to find someplace where you catch moat carp plus a skill up fish. (I'm actually considering writing a mini-guide that will list some of these places).

Close to 30, for instance, you can fish in the big pond near the entrance to Davoi using a carbon rod and insect paste and catch moat carp and dark bass, which cap at 35. If you have opened up the Inside the Belly quest, then you'll get more per bass than from the guild, plus the chance of finding a green rock (about 2k at the AH).

i recently just finished my Lus quest (see sig) and i never plan to sell it. this rod is a god damn gold mine! i skilled from 39-49 in 2.5 days on shall shells, and caught about 40 stacks of Shall Shells in the process. selling for about 16-20k a stack, only problem is they dont sell nearly as fast as moats do, but i can usually sell 7 stacks per day, which isnt bad at all. considering they cap at lvl 53 and i catch a minimum of a stack per hour. also with Lus + Robber Rig, line will never snap, and i also pull in other types of fish, Yellow Globes and Bluetails. even though bluetails dont sell very much anymore. thanks SE for the mithkabob nerf. duuuh were squeenix and were going to kill the 2 most widely and affordable foods. thanks SE^^ now i get to pay 28k a stack of sole sushi or 16k a stack of squid sushi. not to mention shihei are 8-10k a stack now compared to the 5-6k a stack they used to sell for. sorry a bit of an angry /rant towards the end there ^^; hope my info has helpful though. not to mention one more piece of information. 10,000/12 = 833 so thats 833 stacks of moats. 833x5,000 = 4.16million. (5k/stack is the average price of moats in sandy, and they sell fast because thats where the quest is based) so fishing up 10,000 moats to sell the rod for 4million is dumb, you'll actually lose 160k (assuming you dont use the money obtained from trading the moats to buy more moats). in the long run, saving the rod for yourself is a much better investment IMO. seeing as i caught about 600k worth (assuming i sell the shells for 15k a stack, less the the average price) of stuff in 2 days^^ the rod really has a great return to it, and its an excellent investment to keep if you intend to persue fishing anymore.

Hmmmthat's interesting. The math does add up. Keeping that badboy is going to make me more gil than selling it. Thanks for the advice. Also is it true that a composite rod with fly lure can catch moat carps?? Also what's he closest place near sandy I can fish carps because I'd like to find the best spot to fish and run back to sandy.

On most servers the cost of the road is not 4.16 million. It ends up being 2.3 million. Most servers have moat carps for 4K/stack.

834 stacks at 4K each...3,336,000 gil.
Turn in 10,000 carp for 100 gil each...-1,000,000 gil.
Sell the remaining 8 carp at AH for 400 each...-3,200 gil.
Net cost of rod...2,332,800 gil.

Selling it for 4 million earns you a profit of 1,667,200 gil if moats sell for 4K/stack on your server. All the same, as fishing is as viable a source of income as any, keep it to perpetuate the gil-raking.

Yes, as I stated earlier I'm not selling mine because I want profit only, it's also because my time to fish has become rather limited lately. So saving the rod for myself does little other than take up a Mog Safe inventory slot.

Also, I got my Moat Carps for about 3,500 a stack ;)
