Targeting glitch? My party nearly got Zimmered!Follow

#1 Jan 25 2005 at 10:33 PM Rating: Good
I like that term. Zimmered.

Anyway...

I'm curious to learn if anyone else has ever run across this. It's been happening to me since I first started Paladin, but have waited to ask about it until I've observed it more.

Some strange combination of my Provoke macro and my Cure macro and /attack at the start of battles is occassionally causing me to auto-target and engage myself.

You read that right.

From time to time I will engage the mob, and at that moment the game changes the target I am locked onto from the mob to myself, precluding me from being able to voke or attack. I have to disengage, reacquire the mob, then /attack again, which takes an eon during battle, while trying to manually type /ja Provoke <bt>. (I'm considering macroing it for emergencies. Don't wanna <bt> in normal circumstances of course.)

It's a real pain, and only seems to happen if I jump the gun and open with a Cure before all the voking, /attacking, and whatnot has cleared through.

Has anyone else encountered this glitch? I'm thinking it is an obscure problem with the subcommand I use for my Cure macro <stpc> (so I can toss the cure at someone else who has hate in an extreme emergency).

Help!

I have never encountered that problem myself, so it could be your <stpc> set-up, I dont use them for cures. I use <me> for my cures and when I need to cure someone else for hate I do it from the menu manually, same if I have to voke or flash a link.

My main reason for not using <stpc> in cure macros as PLD is this. Sometimes with all that you are concentrating on compounded with lag, its easy to mistarget. I have done this a few times with Cover, the only one I use <stpc> for.

I might give that a try then. At the least it'll save me 1 second on the Cures. I usually don't have any problem with misfiring <stpc> though. I get a lot of practice with <stnpc> when I mine, so it's second nature. (Stupid gil-seller wyverns. Smiley: banghead)

In any event, yay for my paladin noobness! /cheer

I did learn one thing tonight. It really sucks to thick-finger and blow your shield bash on a pathetic VT snip. Smiley: cry

I've had that happen to me as well, and it's quite annoying. But since I'm not normally the main melee *grins* the only way I ever fix it is by disengaging and re-engaging the mob. ><

Well at least I'm not alone.

Have you any idea about what seems to set it off? Does it seem to be the <stpc> sort of thing?

How'd the subligar stuff go?

Yeah, I've had this happen also, usually when I try using a JA via menus while engaging mobs. Like Merodi said, the only way I could find to fix it has been disengaging and rengaging the mob. =\ I don't encounter it too often, mostly because I ALWAYS start with a provoke or flash, both of which I have macro'd. I usually get it while farming, and trying to use Sneak Attack via the Ctrl+J menu.

Slightly off topic, but...for your macros, it sounds kinda like what I have for mine. >_> I have two macros to instantly Cure III and IV myself, and another two for Cure III and IV to <stpc> in case I need to cure someone else.

YES.

I HATE IT.

Super fun is when that happens while blink tanking. Oh my god. It's definately a macro thing that involves targeting/locking onto the mob, because I only ever have it happen when voking or while soloing. I had that happen for the first time after being aggroed by an EP Overgrown Rose in Yhoator.

Disengage re-engage fixes the problem, although the pt tends to go 'o.O'.

It's only been recently that this has happened to me, so it must be a patch thing. I hate that so much I could cry.

I think I'll grab a GM tomorrow night, see what they think.

Maybe I'll get Gludd or Thunderar (or however it's spelled).

They're my favoritest. ^^

Sowwy 'bout the Subligars, Merodi. Smiley: cry It's kinda funny though. Before Bridgitte expanded her clothes market into the realm of B+SM, no one would be caught dead within three feet of those bloody things.

On an unrelated note, I kept getting made fun of tonight for my Lizard Armor. Smiley: mad

Gludd is insane, he ran through Kirin's room during a Kirin fight, saying "Hiya!" Gave all of AD and Lunies that were there a good laugh. =P

Instead of using <stpc> to cure other ppl, try using <st>. What <st> does is when u hit the macro, ur targeting cursor will placed on u and then u are to select a target to where ur spell will go before u actually cast ur spell.

If u wanna target the mob that ur puller has pulled faster, make a macro and put /target <bt>.

I've got a /target <bt>. Recommended it to a SAM last night who nailed the wrong pugil. (><)

I'm willing to bet <st> would have the same problem. <st>, <stpc>, and <stnpc> are all essentially the same thing. They just differ in what sorts of targets they acquire. All of them involved using that purple secondary targetting cursor.

I think it's the cursor that's actually causing the problem, or something related to it, as some people have had problems when selecting an ability or spell out of menu, which also uses that cursor.

It's strange to say the least.
