Frustrating Quests !!!! Ah!!!Follow

#1 Jan 25 2005 at 8:27 PM Rating: Decent
Ok as you guessed from the title this is about those painstaking quest we go through playing FFXI. I recently traded 200 yagudo beads for Norg fame. So I go quest Utsusemi: Ichi for my [Green][/Green]nin(thf/nin). I had no map of Sea Serpent Grotto, so yes it was not fun. I had a stack of silent oil and everything. I go get Tonko:Ichi first, with the use of a map from this site(yes that was a shameless plug)and it was successful. Then I went to go get Utsusemi key item and not only did I die, I got lost using a map... My hp was in Bastok...Yes I was angry...no linkshell help was a downer too.. So I get back.. and the jungle map sucks... I find my way back by myself.. and try attempt # two. I got lost using my map.. so dumb.. I get a raise(died twice losing more exp) from a rdm and run back to Norg. At this point I have no oil left. Not to mention, every higher up I ask for help says no you can do it alone(story of my life). I get it when my real life friend logged in with his 70+ pld. So what I want to ask is what were some of your most rewarding and painstaking quests in the game?? Thank you for read this far and share if you like. Thanks in advance P.S. : A brother got his scrolls to lvl 27 too!! Hola at your boy!!

Tell me about it, I'm having some trouble with those stupid Yag necklaces and not to mention I probably won't even be able to afford the Shihei required of my NIN to tank just to level it up to sub. I guess I'm just mad that I can't do NIN10/THF5 to level as a sub in the Dunes knowing full well I should have just tried harder to get the stupid Utsusemi scroll.

Sigh, this concience thing is starting to really kill me.

~Ram who's still trying to get enough of those Yag Necklaces.

Rewarding for me was last night.

Soloed the NIN quest as a 48rdm/24blm. Those leeches were a pain in the ***, but, I did it. Don't know if that is a feat or not, but I was pretty damn happy about it.

You should check out Test My Mettle sometime. Trying to get to the middle island in Davoi w/ a level 30 character was something entirely new. When I went to check the Urn, I got wtfpwned so fast I didn't notice for several minutes.

Still got my Power Sandals though. Smiley: grin

I just did Test my Mettle about 3 weeks ago as my WHM. NATURALLY the jar was through the monsastic cavern...-_- That was interesting. I got aggroed but fortunately by a RNG orc who took his sweet time in shooting an arrow, but I was still scared to death because it was IT++ (at 55! O_o) so I got the sandals and starting casting Warp and here comes the arrow!!!

....he missed.

Needless to say, I got LUCKY.

My most painstaking quest was that god damned Teleport-Mea quest. My first time in Eldieme, so I didn't understand yet the concept of multiple entrances and all the dead ends, etc. Not to mention the first Shade I saw nearly made me crap myself. I died *several* times looking for that blasted ???, and it took me about 4 days because I didn't want to go around through Beaucedine (at the time I hadn't even stepped into Ranguemont let alone Beaucedine). But it was worth it when I did find it. Not because I could Telewhore, but it's so much more convenient to be able to telport to Tahrongi than having to wait for that ship and then wait through a boring 15 minute ride (can ya tell I don't like the ship? :P).

That's mine :p

Yeah mine was through Monastic. (Monsastic? o.O)

When I dropped the invis to /check the urn, I had waited until the orcs weren't looking.

Unforunately I didn't see the Farkillers up on the hill.

One saw me. Before he could fire an arrow all the other orcs had linked, and one smacked me.

You wanna talk about wtfpwned... jesus!

They all proceeded to **** on my corpse.

Thanksfully just before my timer was up a nice JP pt came up there, killed off the orcs, and raised me. I must have looked odd, purposefully dying and returning to hp after getting that raise, but I was able to get the sandals! ^^

I got to use them tonight (before I deleveled). They are yummy. ^^

Eldieme coffer key drop's the worst. First no one wants to do it or help. The "safe" camp site is hard to get to. If you hit yellow life, more adds will come into camp (Bones aggroes on yellow life like a mile away). Bones does AoE damage and blinds. 1 bone pops every 22 min right inside the camp. And to top all that off, the coffer key is a rare drop.

Took me 1.5 rl month and about 20 key parties to get the key. Then 1 day to find the coffer.

Wow that test my mettle thing sounds hard... Instead of me losing gil gambling with a fellow player, I risk it with a npc??? Ha I'll try when I hit a higher level with my thf.. Thanks for sharing guys..

When doing that quest i died about 7 times in a row. This JPN Smn pretty much had to kill the whole zone so i could get a raise without 50million skeles trying to beat my weakened body.

Most people do it for the Power Sandals, not the gil. To keep the sandals you just don't give them to him (you lose the money you bet, of course).

After the trouble I had getting mine, it was really gratifying to ***** that jackass out of his stinking sandals. Smiley: sly

My worst quest came yesterday when we were trying to get my AF hat. We failed miserably. We had an alliance of 17 people. Tanks had to go. Then 2 blms die. Then we are trying to clean the area to make the notorious monster spawn and someone ( no one fessed up) spawned it before we were ready and 8 people die. I deleveled. so did my LS buddies. It was an aweful run. It shouldn't of been that hard but somehow it became a mess and disorganized
