The money is in moat carp. Get some insect paste and fish in the Knightwell in Ronfaure, take your carp to the AH, and sell it for 4K a stack (AND ONLY 4K A STACK, DO NOT GO UP OR DOWN FROM 4K).

You won't skill up at all if you just fish moat carp. Just a thought, but if you can make less money and still skill up, then that might be a better option - I'm currently working on the Lu Shang's quest, and I catch moat carp a lot faster at level 50 fishing than I did at level 13.

At 13, with full fishing gear, you'll have a 17 skill, which is good enough to catch yellow globes. I fished them in Bubumiru using a sabiki rig and, I think, a carbon rod. Now you might catch monsters in all spots in Bubumiru (thank you, bots), so if they end up being a problem at your level, you can try yellow globes in Mhaura. You'll end up catching a lot of bastore sardines there as well, though. I think I sold globes in Bastok for 2-3k a stack, but that was a while ago.

Essentially, if you need quick money, go for moat carp. If you're looking for money and to increase your skill as a long-term investment, find fish that you can skill up on. Simply catching moat carp at level 13 as your main money-maker for the rest of the game just isn't an efficient method of making gil.

As for selling them ONLY at 4k...meh. If you weren't supposed to fiddle with prices, SE would've used a different system. Don't ever go below 4k just as a practical matter...moat carp will always sell, and fairly quickly. As for pricing them higher when supplies are low, I don't think it's anyone place to tell you how to price your own items.

There is a safe way to fish in monster-prone areas. <.<

Xanoxonax showed me this trick; when you fish, watch the sweat that pops out when you get a bite. If it's a 'big' sweat, you're fishing up a monster; don't reel it in.
According to Xano, at later levels this trick stops working, because 'big money' fish cause the big sweat.

I've been fishing with a lvl 29 WHM at the Jugner Forest spot through Ranperre's, and it's worked like a charm. She can't kill a fished monster, but by watching the sweats I've avoided this.

So you can still fish at the 'best' spots ;) Just find an area without aggro if you can, and keep an eye on the sweaties.

Sweat fishing is fairly reliable and will work on globes, since they're a small fish. Another way that has been dead-accurate for me, on a PS2, is just the feedback from the controller. A monster tugging on the line is a harder feedback than any fish I've caught yet (though a few have been close) but most importantly lasts a little longer and doesn't seem to taper out at the end. If you have a PS2 or a computer controller with vibrating feedback, you might want to play with it in some area where you'll fish up weak monsters. It's very much a "feel"-type thing.

Of course, sometimes if I'm not catching anything, I pull them up anyway. Nothing helps vent frustration like beating up a poor, low-level mob that just happened to bite on your line.

Thanks guys for the feedback. First in regards to the money, yes I see that moat carps a stack go for 4k in the AH. However when I fish for them I don't get many skill ups when fishing for them. I find that I still get skill ups in the port of Bastok, because I hit 14 and well on my next skill up to hit 15. So I see Moat carp for gil-check , Port Bastok for skill ups- check, and sweat fishing-check. Thank you all for the input.

Ahhh fishing, soooo many hours fishing.

I'm currently level 50 fishing, and as to this point, I have not found a more profitable spot than the small pond at the bottom of the cliff in the SE corner of La Theine Plateau.

Yes, you do fish up crabs and fish here, but they should be too weak to you.

Head to San'd Oria and in Southern San'd Oria, east of the AH, you will find Lusane.

Lusane sells little worms for 3 gil a piece if your fame is high.

Buy a comp fishing rod, and a bunch of little worms.

Head to that pond I mentioned in La Theine Plateau and go to work.

In this pond you will fish up;

Crayfish > 500 gil a stack, sell very fast.
Moat Carp > 4,000 a stack, sell almost instantly.
Dark Bass > 1,000 a stack, sell very fast and will make your fishing skill rise all the way to 36.
Rusty Caps > Sell for 1K at AH.
Rusty Buckets > Sell for 51 gil to Lusane, or use them for Bastok Fame, or chuck them.

The fishing here is really good, but also, a Water Elemental spawns every time it rains, if you kill it fast enough you can get it to spawn 2 times every time it rains. If you can kill it, you are looking at 1 to 3 clusters every time it dies.

I believe water clusters are going for 700 a piece in San'd Oria.

Last but not least, make sure to walk back to San'd Oria

On the way, look for rams. Kill one on the way back, you can get Skins = 500gil Horns = 1,000.

Now while walking through West Ronfaure, make sure to pas by where Jaggedy-Eared Jack spawns. You never know, you could get lucky.

I've claimed him 3 times, never ever camped him, just passing through.

And yes, I did get a Rabbit Charm.

On a full moon, or new moon, I've pulled in about 100K in a 6 hour fishing day. (Heh, I can fish while I work, as my job involves working on computers)

But this was also when Rusty Caps were 2K a piece. before SE nerfed them.

Oh, and a little misconception, if you put rusty bucket in your mog house, you will get Mog Enhancement: Fishing.

Don't be confused, this will not increase the number of fish you catch, but it WILL increase the number of rusty items you fish up.

Good luck, aside from that and camping the Tumbling Truffle, farming his brother fungars and bees and bats, thats how I made gil until I was level 50.

O.O

You mean...it's not just a myth!??!

{Congratulations} on that, I've heard of the catch but never of the loot ;) Thou hast been blessed by yonder bunny.
