Surprise in Beadeaux: a massacre! ><Follow

So I sent a tell to someone who had been offering a Beadeaux coffer key party, Crezto (PLD67). He agrees, and I head out to where they were fighting already, and we fight for like 4-5 hours. The alliance is dwindling, most people have said "10 min" or "3 more fights", and finally a key drop. I predicably lose the lot (congrats, Castortroy), and we decide to push our luck on a few more fights, since many times when it rains keys it pours. Two or three mobs later, while pulling a sapphire, Crezto has a 3-quadav link, and the sapphire casts sleepga. Crezto, after getting slapped awake, uses invincible (good idea), then uses an instant warp scroll, saying he'll be back (questionable idea, and pretty much the point of this post).

Luckily, I hadn't touched any of them, so I disbanded after that, woke up naturally right before the only other living person got hate (Castortroy, the guy who beat me by a solid 600 on the key lot ;;), used a sneak oil, and started running in A direction. Past an afflictor, CastorTroy is next to me and links another 3 quads. I keep running and, to my surprise, hit the qulun dome zone. Castortroy didn't join me there, and i was disbanded so i didn't see what happened. But I assume I was the only survivor of the massacre, as the lowest lvl there.

I managed to get an escape from a VERY COOL (^^) 71RDM/35BLM hanging out in qulun, and logged in pashhow happy not to be dead, and annoyed that it went down this way.

2 questions about etiquette then:
a) should the highest lvl in the group, and a pld, have used invincible purely to save his own *** with a warp scroll?
b) was I wrong for disbanding immediately after 3 people died and running for the zone with sneak up?

either way, i hope i didn't **** him off too much, and if they're heading back, despite this episode, i'd take the offer happily. Such is the desperation of Beadeaux.

Hey rollo /wave.

No you were not in the wrong at all 3 people died and you could not have helped or saved anyones life. At times like those its every man for themselves (Unless there is some hope in defeating all the links).

Depending on your group, he could have simply realized the group was SOL. If you were out of the way, he could simply come back and raise the other casualties.

Maybe, maybe not. Not sure why you would disband. If you didn't touch them or cure anyone who did and you put up sneak, you were safe. However, if you escaped to Pashow and logged without a word to anyone else in the party, that seems rather rude. But since you didn't really say one way or the other, I won't assume.

Coffer hunts are stressful, but good etiquette will ensure that you don't have problems finding help in the future.

well i didn't have everyone's spelling, etc.... and i was on about 2 hours longer than i had planned (nice, carrot-&-stick, SE :P ), so I only talked to Crezto before i logged, citing frayed nerves and exhausted mind. Castortroy was the key-grabber, so i think even if i killed his first-born he'd still look at the whole night in a positive light :)

edit: er, "HI MOSH!" ^^

You guys were in that Larve spawn room?

A tip we used to get my key...have a SMN or /SMN come and Carby pull. We got mine with only me (60 WHM), a ubah 62 THF, and a 74PLD. The key is slow but sure, the PLD would pull (as is his wont, he's kinda goofy ^^) and if he thought there was even a remote chance of a link he would call me up with my /SMN to send Carby in and take one for the team Smiley: clap

Just a little tip, I know it's not earth shattering or anything but Carby pulling has made certain things our LS does go from a chore to a pleasant experiance.

As far as this guy, sounds a bit shady to Invincible and Warp, but I wonder, if everyone had cut and run right when he did that, would more have survived? It seems when things go back and someone says "Run!" everyone kinda sits there for a while to make sure the rest of the group goes.

I would make it clear to the group, if the person you designate as calling the fight says "Run!" you all move your collective asses or face the consequences Smiley: wink

the better course of action seems like it would've been invincible > cure everyone (some were still sleeping, including me and castortroy) > warp. Since the PLD pulled, plus invincible, all hate must've been on him, and he could've woken everyone up and still gotten his warp off. Then if he still felt like it, he could've offered "I'll be right back."

Well first off im new to forums here but ive been playing FF-XI since its introduction.

To answer your question, the pld screwed up. The job of a pld is to defend those weaker then him (no im not getting into the rightiousness and that of a pld) but what i was getting at he should of done all he could of done to give any and all a chance to live. Hitting invincible was right cause with 3 quads he would of died fast BUT to simply cut and run insuring the rest of the parties total wipe was pure cowardness, he should of cured a blm for escape or a whm so they could tele group.

I'm sorry to make my first post seem so cruel but i speak what i feel, so rate me up or down, it wont shut me up, lol.

in his defense (as the haunting memories start to come back to me ^^), the whm was the first person to go down, and at that point, the only mage in the party. We really had no options for getting out aside from zoning to qulun dome (which was REALLY close to my surprise). Still, a couple cures to wake the sleeping people would've saved at least another life or two, even if he instawarped once they started to run.

Well i cant guess at all the possible scenerios's that could of played out since i dont know the jobs, # of party members etc..

Pld does not cut and run, that is BS ... since he pulled he had the only hate and im guessing since the whm died it was cause he cured the pld but if the Sapphire cast sleepga that doesnt explain how the whm was awake, maybe the pld woke him, again i dont know.

But if no one had done anything the mobs would of only wanted the pld's butt, he could of simply took them back to where he pulled them from, getting them away from the party and then warped if he wanted or died and waited for a raise.

And i forgot to reply to your inquiry, no what you did wasnt wrong, disbanding was not needed but running when your tank just ran like a little girl (non political correct, shoot me) was not only your only course but the smart one.

That's the part that made me think that perhaps he saw the situation as hopeless and figured it would be best to get out, come back and raise and try again. We all get a little hyper/extreme in our actions sometimes, especially when your brain is fried from a several hour long coffer party.

He was there to help you. I mean I was doing Dark Spark the other day and the person I was helping accidently aggroed the whole castle, I died and ate a Raise 1 at lvl 68. It sucks you died but he stayed around for as long as he did for your sake not his, I mean he didnt have to go he was doing you a favor. I mean I would be really pissed if I died helping someone because it was the "Brave" thing to do. Yes I am a PLD also and is the "Brave" thing to do, but that really gets old quick.

He didnt have to go there to help anyone out, but he chose to go. Did he have to die for you? nope. I only die if is to help someone that I am close to, or in my LS. I mean lets be serious you would not have been so pissed if you would have gotten your key. I think is kinda selfish that because he didnt die you are complaining. Did you die? not from what you wrote. I would have done the same exact thing, Invicible and instant warp scroll are a PLDs best friend specially when not exping and you know that you will have to get a party just to make up the loss. At 68 I only lvl once a week, so I dont blame him.

JoLoves that's exactly the mentality that made it more complicated than an open-and-shut decision. He definitely didn't need a Beadeaux key (67-68.... at least i hope not ^^), so either he was helping a close friend, or is so masochistic (read: helpful) that he just decided randomly to start shouting to put together a key hunt. I'd assume the former. I don't fault him, and regardless of which happened first, he ran like a sissy just like i did, except he may have had a plan to come back and raise, where I don't have WHM leveled and could offer no such support.

It's possible he was after a Pld testimony to fight maat. They drop from Darksteel Quads in that area. Right about the right level too. Same mobs that drop the coffer key. Idk for sure, just a possibility.

if he was, he was a lot luckier than us key-hunters. we got like 5 pld, 3 blm and a few WAR ones, and the THF stole one as well. so I doubt he was looking for one, or we'd never have gotten so many :)

Crezto and Castortroy are in my LS - actually Crezto is the leader. I will say that Crezto helps more ppl than I've ever seen someone do. He helps so much that most of our LS is now within 5-10 lvls from him. Especially now that we are all needing AF and such he is always there to help.

I will say Crezto wouldnt have just left the party or his good friend Castortroy unless the situation was REALLY bad. I remember when I was trying to get rank 5 and he was helping me (46rng at the time, 38 rng, and 48 whm) get the magicite from Castle Ozotjra (not even close to the correct spelling but you get it^^) and one members invis wore off and got aggro'd by 3 yags, which to me were IT ++++. He tanked all 3, repeatedly voking & flashing each one to get the hate away from us. WHM had to use 2hr along with both us rng and him, and he fought the whole way through making it out with his hp in the red.

Another example is when we had a pt for the papyrus in Eld. Necropolis. We were there four hours trying to get these papers and another pt called for help on a Ka, which they were nice enough to bring right next to our pt :/ The the fallen mage we were fighting waiting for another lich to spawn already in the fight, the Ka thought it would be fun to get in our fight too. Crez was pretty much done for, but continued to take the hate to try to save the rest of our pt. I tried to steal the hate with everything I had since no raise II was near >.< but no good. Crez died with about 5% of the Ka's hp left which we easily handled.

So I would have to say, if he warped out like you said, he knew your whole pt was going to die and the situation was too bad. Sorry to hear about the massacre, but knowing crezto, if you ask for his help again, im sure youll get it.

thanks for posting, was hoping he or a friend would find this :) i certainly don't assume any malice from his point of view. I guess I just felt like he misjudged the situation if I survived, since he might've saved a couple more. Honestly I didn't mind since I didn't know the other players, and I'm appreciative in general since any time I get to spend fighting in Beadeaux is a gift Smiley: yippee/Smiley: banghead
