Thanks for all of your suggestions. The only problem is, I've tried all of them already. I've screwed with my DirectX settings, I'm currently running an OLDER driver instead of the latest one because the latest one wreaked havoc with my computer, I've used every possible graphical setting for FFXI, I reformatted and reinstalled my ENTIRE COMPUTER, etc etc etc. At this point I'm at a loss. The card is a GeForce Ti4200 with 128MB of VRAM on it, so it's not exactly a piece of ****. And I forgot to mention, NONE of these problems cropped up until after the most recent FFXI update.
Have you checked (if you are able) the temp of your card, as was mentioned above? This honestly looks like signal corruption due to overheating to me.
Barring that, what version of the GeForce Drivers did you last try? The current version is 6.6.9.3, and seems to work fine on my computer.
You might want to try them again.
Before you do though I would recommend this: Go to http://www.drivercleaner.net and download Driver Cleaner. In my experience Video Card drivers are bad for not updating properly. It's often useful to remove all vestiges of the old drivers before installing new ones.
Be sure that you follow the instructions in the readme file that comes with the program explicitly, if you choose to try it.
Here are those instructions:
Quote:
1. Unplug nic card or modem from net or disconnect
2. Remove nvidia from add/remove programs
3. Reboot into safe mode (F8 during boot up)
4. On reboot into safe mode WinXP SP1/SP2 will auto detect and install drivers. Just let it do its thing. If you can cancel out of the auto install hardware wizard then skip to Step 7. If you can NOT cancel out of auto detect wizard then...
5. Navigate to device mgr->display adapters->highlight nVidia and click uninstall or remove but don't reboot
6. Disable any AntiVirus Software (If you don't disable is than it could give trouble)
7. Run Cab Cleaner (not needed, but recommended)
8. Run Driver Cleaner
9. Empty recycle bin and reboot
10. Install the new drivers
Incidently, you switch between CAB Ceaner and Driver Ceaner by clicking on the appropriate option under the Tools menu.
In CAB Ceaner to be thorough you should probably run it on Driver.cab, SP1.cab, and SP2.cab (from the pulldown list).
in Driver Cleaner you would simply need to select nVidia from the list of card models.
That may not solve your problem, but it should remove the problem you had with updated GeForce drivers.
